I dream of living life on a bed of roses.

Update: Whiskers was adopted on February 1st! Trying to survive on the streets is hard enough for cats, and often fatal (due to vehicles, disease, coyotes, and so many other dangers), but imagine being declawed on all four feet, completely defenseless, unable to even run up a tree for basic safety. But somehow little Whiskers eked out a survival outdoors long enough to be rescued. Whiskers is surprisingly gentle and demure considering what she had to endure.  She seeks out quiet places and responds best to soft-spoken people. She is a lovely tabby with white feline, spayed, about 5 years of age, and available for adoption today in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms. Please adopt Whiskers and keep her strictly indoors.  As mentioned, she is fully declawed, so even a single trip outdoors could end her life. These splendid portraits of Whiskers are courtesy of Pet'ographique to help her find a forever home.

I loving taking naps on your lap.

This dainty girl is an affectionate little trooper, named GI Jane because she was rescued from underneath a Hummer on an Air Force base. GI Jane is spayed and about one year young.  She has bright eyes and a sleek black coat. She is very playful and athletic, but delights in cuddling with you for catnaps. GI Jane is one of 200 rescued, spayed/neutered cats and kittens for adoption in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.  Please visit and ask for this sweetheart by name.

I am so grateful to be alive.

Update: Mattie was adopted on December 14th! At the time of rescue this precious puppy was on the streets, very sick with the deadly parvo virus. We had extensive medical care provided for her and she triumphantly made a full recovery. We named her Mattie .  She is a Chihuahua, about 7 months of age, now spayed and debuting for adoption today. Mattie is a bashful baby girl and she has a very loving nature.  We believe she will do best in a gentle home. She is good with other sweet dogs.  Please remember to carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection. Mattie was saved thanks to your donations to Nevada SPCA .  We do not receive funding from the government or national animal organizations, so our lifesaving work for community animals in desperate need is completely dependent on compassionate people like you.  Thank you.

Are my lonely days over?

Update: Sissy was adopted on November 24th! If you seek a tender-hearted girl and can commit to her for life, then Sissy may be just right for you. She has a very gentle, endearing spirit. Sissy is a blond Terrier & Toy mix.  She is spayed, about 2 years of age, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. We rescued this little angel from another shelter that ran out of space to keep her.  Prior to that, she was a stray, trying to fend for herself on the streets. Sissy likes other sweet dogs and she needs regular brushing and grooming.  She will do best in a calm home.

Once a vagrant, but I am now ready to be your little prince.

Update: Kasey was adopted on December 7th! Kasey is finding pampering and loving care very much to his liking. His exceptional cheeriness is heart-warming.   He was so excited this morning to be photographed for his big adoption debut that he was almost skipping down the hallway, a spring in his step and a broad smile on his face. Kasey is a Miniature Poodle we rescued from another shelter that ran out of room to keep him.  He had been taken there after being rescued as a stray on the outskirts of the Vegas metro area near a busy road. He delights in other sweet dogs and he needs regular professional grooming care, so please plan and budget extra accordingly.

I need a responsible, committed owner.

Update: Leven was adopted on September 4th! Leven was one of the countless animals on the dangerous streets, fortunately rescued before he was struck by a vehicle or met other harm. But he had no ID tags and no microchip, indicating he was either thrown out intentionally or with a reckless owner who failed to take even the basic precautions necessary to keep him identified in the event he got loose. Leven deserves better, as all animals do -- they depend and rely on people for their survival -- and we are eager to find him a forever home where he knows he will be safe and cherished every day. He is an adorable youngster with very expressive eyes and a gentle spirit. Leven is apprehensive with new people, wondering who intends him harm, perhaps due to past abuse (physical and/or screaming). He is a Terrier & Toy mix, neutered male, 2 years young, debuting for adoption today. We believe he will do best in a quiet home, with another dog he can bond with too.

The dangers outdoors were an unnecessary risk for me.

Thankfully, an observant person noticed that a cat had slithered up under the car during a recent, cold day. Otherwise, Laverne may have been injured or killed by the fanbelt, which happens to countless cats each year who seek refuge from the rain or chill in car engines. Laverne is a darling, petite youngster with expressive eyes. She is mostly white with torbie markings, spayed, and about one year of age. Laverne is compatible with other sweet cats and she enjoys gentle people especially. She is ready for adoption today in the free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms at Nevada SPCA. Please ask for her by name.

I bet I can beat you in a game of hide-and-seek.

Update: Lil' John was adopted on February 8th! Lil' John lives to play. You cannot just dangle a toy and stand idly by -- he needs you participating with him in all of the action. In the free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms at Nevada SPCA, he favors playing chase with the staff and mock hunting where he sneaks up on you and then pounces to catch you. His playtimes are sometimes a bit rough, so an experienced owner is needed to guide this behavior to become gentler. And any children in the home should be older to avoid mistaken scratchings. Lil' John always wears the tuxedo God gave him. He is a neutered male, approximately 2 years young. We rescued Lil' John from the streets of an industrial area where he was trying to scrape by an existence. Please keep Lil' John and all cats off of the streets. They are only safe indoors as members of the family. Cats let outdoors are frequently ravaged by disease, other cats, dogs, cars, pranksters, birds of prey, and the li...

Dogs are my favorite toys.

Update: Leilani was adopted on September 21st! Leilani is a petite young lady, very sure of herself and full of character. She loves laying in window ledges to sunbathe while she naps. And she enjoys playing with toys -- both those bought from stores and those you make for her on the spot (crumpled up wads of paper, empty cardboard boxes, etc.). Leilani though gets her greatest amusements with small dogs. She entices them to wrestle and then snuggles up with them to rest. She is a beautiful brown tabby, spayed, and approximately 18 months young. We found her running the streets and trying to survive on her own in an industrial area. If your dog loves cats and wants a lifelong friend, please bring him or her with you to meet sweet little Leilani .

I will always make you feel loved.

Update: Wendy has been adopted! Wendy is an engaging, affectionate youngster who yearns to bond with you and make a connection. She likes to perch high in a room -- at eye level -- and gently chirp and talk with you. Her background is a mystery to us. We estimate that every single day in southern Nevada at least 100 cats and kittens lose their homes and families. A caring person found Wendy outside on the streets, trying to survive the elements and vehicles and dogs and so on. We can never say enough that cats are only safe if they are indoors with loving, committed families. Wendy is a dilute calico (blue, cream, & white), spayed female, approximately two years young. She awaits her knight in shining armor today in The Catnip Cabana, which is one of the free-roaming playrooms in Nevada SPCA's Cat Condos.
