Nevada SPCA Animal Rescue

Poppy is gorgeous, shy, and intelligent, and she likes to play fetch.  Her previous owner insisted she is a rare breed -- an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog -- and bred her for puppies.  Now with us, and spayed, she will be a loving companion and family member, not a breeding machine.  Poppy is about 18 months young and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and good with cats and dogs, but intolerant of young kids. 

Bonnie Bear   Bonnie & Bear were thrown away in after-hours cages at another shelter by their previous owner. The pair are very strongly bonded, soul-mates, and the shelter asked Nevada SPCA to take them so we could find them a forever home together. Bonnie's anatomy reveals that she has been bred for puppies many, many times.  Both Bonnie and Bear are Chihuahuas, about 8 years of age.  Bonnie is a girl and Bear is a boy.  They are now spayed/neutered and ready to join a loving home, which has been denied them until now by a person who has been exploiting them to make money off of their puppies.  Both are sweethearts with mellow, tender natures. Please adopt them and show them that they have a remarkable intrinsic value of their own, just the way they are.

Shella is awakening to the immensely bright possibilities of feeling loved and cherished. At the time of rescue though, like countless others who are regarded with dollar signs instead of affection, she was reportedly being used by a backyard breeder to make money off of her puppies. Shella is now spayed and debuting for adoption today.  We want to find her a forever home where she will never again have to doubt whether she is loved. She is a pretty Chihuahua mix, tri-color with mocha & tan & white, plus golden eyes, about 2 years young. Please be patient with Shella as she completes housetraining and adjusts to living primarily indoors.  We doubt she has ever walked on carpet before, or napped on a couch, or cuddled with a person in front of a TV set. In her portrait Shella is sporting a faux-fur lined jacket donated by a volunteer to help keep her warm in her kennel.

Update: Brownie was adopted on November 18th! Brownie is a Teacup Chihuahua, a bashful girl with a gentle spirit.  She gives kisses to soft-spoken people she knows and trusts. She needed us when her previous owner claimed she "cannot keep it anymore."  Her body indicates she was used repeatedly for breeding.  We had Brownie spayed and micro-chipped, and vaccinated, and she is now debuting for adoption today.  She is approximately 5 years of age, and missing bottom front teeth so her tongue often slides out of her mouth a bit. She will do best in a calm home where she is adored and cherished every day.   She is compatible with other dogs and older children, and reportedly housetrained if given enough opportunities to go outside. Please visit and ask for Brownie by name.

Update: Katie was adopted on March 4th! Katie is a classy young sweetheart ready to embrace a loving home with her whole heart. She is a gorgeous Pug, spayed female, approximately 18 months of age. Katie enjoys other dogs. We believe she will do best in a home with another dog (or dogs). She was rescued from a breeding kennel. Denied a nurturing environment, she was exploited to breed puppies for sale to pet stores. So Katie will need your great patience and good guidance to complete housetraining and adjust to living predominantly indoors as a cherished member of the family. Pug knowledge and/or experience is strongly preferred for her adoption. Katie debuts for adoption today.

Update: Gypsy was adopted on February 5th! Gypsy's heart of gold is buried beneath a very bashful exterior. Even to take this portrait she was terrified, her eyes darting to the floor, hoping we would just put her back in her kennel. Gypsy's awakening to loving care, and the blooming of her personality, will require the nurturing, gentle touch of a tender person (or couple). She had apparently given up on humans years ago. And no wonder, they just used her for breeding and denied her even basic socialization. Gypsy's path to adjusting and trusting though may be greatly aided by another dog, a 'big brother' or 'big sister' to help guide her in her new home. There are no instant fixes for Gypsy, but for those who enjoy nurturing a delicate soul to self-esteem, her potential is tremendous. Gypsy debuts for adoption today.

Update 2: Trudy was adopted on December 22nd! Update: Tara was adopted on December 19th! Tara (pictured here) and her sister Trudy are on the cusp of being in a loving home for the first time ever. The girls debut for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Tara & Trudy are young Boxers, approximately one year of age. Both are shy and reserved with new people, but they have gentle souls and they are full of tremendous potential. The girls were reportedly bred for sale in a puppy store, but grew to adult size before being purchased. We agreed to rescue them so they could avoid a loveless life of being used and exploited for their puppies, as their mother was at a breeding kennel. Tara & Trudy are now spayed and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Please be patient with them and provide good guidance to help them adjust to living predominantly indoors as true members of the family. Update 3: Sarge was adopted on February 16th! Update 2: Sarina was adopted on January 28th! Update: Sara was adopted on January 18th! Sarina (pictured here), along with Sara and Sarge , are German Shepherds rescued from a breeding kennel. Used just to produce litter after litter of puppies for years on end for a quick buck, we do not believe they have ever known the joy and peace-of-mind of being part of a loving family. Their fortunes are changing! We had them spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Today, they debut for adoption at Nevada SPCA and they can look ahead to years of being cherished and adored in forever homes. Please be very patient with helping them adjust to living predominantly indoors and enjoying the spoils of a happy life (good food, comfortable beds & sofas & blankets, daily walks and/or playtime, and so forth). Update: Louie was adopted on December 4th! Louie is about 4 years of age, but just now being given the golden opportunity to join a home where he will be loved and adored as a member of the family. He was rescued from a breeder, used for years to produce Yorkie puppies to make a quick buck. But breeding during this most severe animal overpopulation crisis, worsened further by the recession and home foreclosure crisis, is simply unconscionable. Louie is a super cute Yorkshire Terrier with a zany personality and great zest for life. He is all set to bloom beautifully in a caring home environment. Besides regular grooming, please plan on providing him with a wealth of good guidance for basic behaviors. We suspect that he may need to adjust to living predominantly indoors, learning housetraining, and so forth, and a steady lifestyle routine should be very helpful. Update: Cookie was adopted on November 16th! After noticing her super cute front-folding ears and expressive wrinkles, the next most eye-catching physical features on Cookie are her long, dragging mammary glands. They are the unfortunate result of numerous breedings of this sweet girl, who is only 4 years of age herself. She was rescued near the Grand Canyon, along with Chester, an Australian Shepherd mix who also debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. A boarding facility near the park protected Cookie , Chester, and a few other dogs until we could make room for them. Cookie is a small Shar-Pei mix, approximately only 25-30 pounds. She is now spayed and about 4 years of age. Cookie adores other dogs and finds great comfort in their company. We feel strongly that she needs to be adopted with Chester or to a family who has another dog. She has a jolly temperament and she is as lovable as can be.
