Can't joy and love and grace find me?

Image
The pain you can see in BJ's face is heartbreaking.  He doesn't yet know he is safe, nor does he fully believe yet that people can be predominantly kind.  We don't how long BJ endured the cruelty before being dumped at another shelter.  But he didn't qualify for adoption there because he was nippy and fearful of new people.  Nevada SPCA rescued him and BJ debuts for adoption today.  BJ is a petite Poodle & Terrier mix, about 5 years of age and neutered.  He is a sensitive boy and his loving potential is enormous.  BJ feels most at ease with other dogs around, so a big brother dog or big sister dog may help his soul heal faster.  Experienced, adult-only home needed.  Please help us find BJ a hero, ensuring that he only knows the best of human nature from now on.

Please shield me from further hate, ignorance, and cruelty.

Once Emily trusts you, she is glued to your side, as your kind presence helps her believe she can live in a world free of any further violence and cruelty.  A monster wounded her soul with hitting and screaming, but her spirit will bloom in a stable, experienced, gentle home environment.  Emily is a lovely Cocker Spaniel, 2 years young, spayed girl, ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Emily is good with other dogs, reportedly crate-trained, and needs regular professional grooming.  Please help find a hero for Emily so she only sees the best of human nature from now on.

Why was rage and hate directed at me?

Miranda is a very sensitive, beautiful girl who is worried someone will strike her or scream at her. Miranda has been the victim of abuse, which likely caused the old injury to her back left leg that results in occasional limping. But she is drawn to very soft-spoken people (especially if they use “baby-talk”) and she will take baby steps toward you slowly as she begins to trust you and your intentions. Please help us find her a hero. She is a medium-size Australian Shepherd & Border Collie mix, approximately 5 years of age.   We rescued Miranda from another shelter. She is good with other dogs.  In fact, another dog in the home may help her adjust.

Before & After -- two young Shih-Tzus recovering from extreme neglect.

Marie & Mark, after being shaved down on June 7. Marie, on the day of her rescue, June 6. Mark, on the day of his rescue, June 6. Marie & Mark are not yet ready for adoption, but these angels are on the road to recovery from extreme neglect. They were thrown over a fence into someone's yard.  Fortunately, they did not end up with broken legs or other bones from the fall.  (If we determine the identity of their previous owners, we will, of course, be giving that information to authorities for animal abuse prosecution.) Their matting was so severe and filthy they could barely see.  This is neglect that has likely taken place over their entire lives.  We doubt they have ever been groomed or pampered until they arrived at Nevada SPCA. Marie is afraid of women, but she is letting men handle and give her nurturing care.  Mark is very bashful, but a bit more trusting of both women and men. Special thanks to all of you who donate to Neva...

You can help me realize my full loving potential.

Chewy is a very endearing young boy who loves his doggie beds and belly rubs.  But his soul has been wounded from abuse and neglect, so we ask for your help in finding him a hero.  Trust will take time and patience in an experienced, stable, adult-only home.  Chewy is an attractive Lhasa Apso, 18 months of age, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is afraid of mops and brooms, loud people, unfamiliar men, young kids, and people who reach at him quickly.  Volunteers have helped him feel more secure and his progress needs to continue in his forever home.  Chewy has enormous potential!

Please speak to me by voice, not by fist or hitting.

Buddy Blue is a pensive young sweetheart who likes to play with tennis balls.  It breaks our hearts that he is scared of flashlights or objects that resemble them, so worried he will get struck.  Buddy Blue is a medium-size Labrador Retriever mix, 2 years of age, neutered boy, ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He seems to be housetrained and fine with other friendly dogs.  Please help us find Buddy Blue someone who can provide him with a very kind, stable, loving home.

My bruises healed, but my heart still aches.

Patrick's soul is wounded from abuse.  He flinches if you reach near his head.  He has learned, so cruelly, that hands can hit.  But Patrick is also learning from volunteers and staff that hands can soothe and comfort.  Patrick is now ready for a loving, forever home where his progress can continue, and he will keep emerging from his shell as he builds self-esteem and trust.  Patrick is a handsome, tuxedo Bully mix, 5 years of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued this sweetheart from another shelter.  Please help find Patrick a hero.

You're looking at my soul. Please help me.

Many of our volunteers and staff have welled up with tears just seeing the torment in Lucy's eyes.  You know that she trusted and unconditionally loved the people who hurt her, and then dumped her, so the world does not make sense and she understandably feels lost.  We're grateful she is giving humans one more chance.  Lucy so badly wants to believe in people again.  Some progress is being made and she is flinching less when we reach for her.  Lucy is remarkably gentle, despite all she has endured.  She is a small Bully mix, about 4 years of age, spayed girl, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued her from another shelter.  Lucy has come so far and we cannot let her down.  Please help Lucy find someone who will love her forever and shield her from evil.

The past fades and I am focused on a bright future.

Gunny's spirit is soaring! He has realized within a few weeks here that people are capable of kindness and he cherishes his playtime now with the volunteers. Chasing balls and squeaky toys brings a huge smile to his face. Gunny is a very good-looking Bully mix, about 1 year young, neutered boy, ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He has done well with other dogs we have introduced him to so far. Please adopt Gunny and continue to prove to him that his trust in humans is justified.

Can I look to you to end my chaos?

Angel yearns for stability and kindness.  She cannot comprehend how or why a human could betray her innocence with abuse.  Angel's progress will continue in a gentle home where she is showered with kindness and peace.  Angel is a small, blond Heinz 57 with Chihuahua, 1 year young, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Angel likes other dogs and another dog in the home as a big brother or big sister to her may help speed up her emotional recovery.

The return of optimism.

It has been wonderful to watch the hope and sparkle return to this older boy's eyes. At the time of rescue Rusty had just survived some sort of trauma and his spirit was muted in despair. Rusty is a sweet senior, good with dogs, and reportedly housetrained. He needs an adult-only home because he can reportedly get moody and become intolerant of strangers. These fantastic portraits of Rusty are courtesy of Pet'ographique.

Jazzy's dark days are over and he is ready for a loving, bright future.

Image
Jazzy sparkles with joy and dazzles us with his amazing smile.  We love his sunny personality.  He is a Yellow Labrador Retriever mix, about 7 years of age, neutered, great with dogs and people, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is recovering beautifully from a horrific past.  He was one of the two dogs living in deplorable conditions at an abandoned home who had been the victim of tazering, as featured on 8 News Now TV on January 12th.  He was transferred to us from another shelter to address his medical needs (and the other dog was also transferred to a reputable rescue group).  Jazzy is ready to experience what a loving home feels like!

Leo's beautiful emotional recovery!

Image
Leo's more light-hearted nature is celebrated in this brand new portrait from Pet'ographique .  We are so proud of this little guy for trusting us and becoming more affectionate, despite a past full of cruelty and neglect.  Volunteers and staff have been helping him recover emotionally for months, and now he is triumphantly ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Leo is a handsome Chihuahua, neutered boy, about 5 years of age, and he gets along beautifully with other dogs.

Elroy's Triumph!

Image
"My suitcase is packed and I am very ready for a forever home!"  This amazing portrait from Pet'ographique is really a celebration of Elroy's triumph over abuse.  At the time of rescue he was a wounded soul, nipping at people for getting close to him.  Now, Elroy leaps into your arms with his dazzling smile and gives you doggie kisses.  Staff and volunteers, over many months, helped him realize that people can be worth loving and trusting.  Elroy is a sunny Chihuahua, about 4 years of age, neutered, and awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Rebel - with a cause.

Image
Rebel's eyes say it all, don't they? The victim of abuse and neglect, his trust has been violated and he is not at all sure about the human race. But yet, he yearns to be loved and to share his devotion if he can find just the right, gentle person.  Rebel is a Shih-Tzu mix, neutered boy, 2 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is great with other dogs and needs regular grooming (note: we shaved away his knots and tangles, so his coat will grow long again).

I am beginning to experience joy for life!

Image
Look who is starting to see pleasure in life!  We are so proud of how far Juan has come, thanks to loving attention from staff and volunteers.  You may remember this boy being rescued some months ago with a broken heart and numerous, mysterious cuts all over his body.  Physically and emotionally, Juan is healing beautifully.  He is an attractive Chihuahua, neutered boy, 18 months of age, pining for a hero to adopt him from Nevada SPCA. Portraits courtesy of Pet'ographique .

Tasha, a Yorkie awakening to human kindness.

Image
Tasha - BEFORE Tasha - AFTER Besides serious neglect, we know that Tasha was frequently screamed at, and violence against her included a kick to her face so brutal that she lost a tooth. But thanks to the heroic efforts of a local animal activist, Tasha is now in the safety of Nevada SPCA and awakening to human kindness through peaceful nurturing. It is a wonder this sweet little girl wants anything at all to do with people.  Yet she craves being reassured and spoken to in gentle tones. Tasha is a Yorkshire Terrier, spayed, 6 years of age, now ready to continue her progress in a loving, forever home with a very caring person or couple.  Please budget and plan properly for regular professional grooming so that she never has to become a dirty, tangled mess again. She will need your guidance and patience to learn to eat proper dog food.  Her previous owner reportedly only gave her leftover table scraps.

Sweet girl who survived terrible horror.

Image
A monster exploited Moonbeam's unconditional devotion for evil purposes, using her for dog-fighting.  At the time of rescue she was a bloody mess from numerous injuries, including a large and deep gash on her right cheek.  Her countless physical scars on her neck and chest and front legs won't heal.  But in time, her heart will mend.  She is already giving us doggie kisses in gratitude.  Moonbeam is a Bully mix, spayed girl, 4 years of age, ready to continue her progress and bloom in a loving, forever, gentle home.

I am ready to be your very own little superstar!

Look who loves the camera!  Bobo relished the attention of being in the spotlight at Pet'ographique's portrait studio to take these photographs to help him find a forever home. Bobo is a parti-colored shorthair, cute as can be, neutered boy, 5 years of age. He wsa rescued from an abusive home.  Quick movements still alarm him, but his progress has been remarkable. Please ask for Bobo by name in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

I have decided to give humans another chance.

Months of loving care from staff and volunteers have helped persuade little TJ that people are capable of kindness after all. A victim of abuse, at the time of rescue he did not want much to do with any of us.  But now, TJ warms to those he trusts, even flipping over on his back for belly rubs.  He responds best to soft-spoken, gentle people.   An experienced, adult-only home is needed for him. TJ is a Chihuahua, neutered boy, about 6 years of age. He gets along very well with other dogs, and we believe he will do best in a home with another dog (or two) to bond with. Very special thanks to Arica at Pet'ographique for this portrait which captures TJ's new sense of hope and curiosity, and to volunteers Bobbi, John, and Marlene who escort the animals to her studio each week for professional portraits.
