It was me or the Legos toys. I lost.

Image
Sasha is a stunningly gorgeous kitten with an affectionate disposition.  She delights in cuddling and bonding. She is a medium-hair Lynx Point Siamese mix with Caribbean-blue eyes.  She is spayed, 8 months of age, and ready for adoption today. Her previous owner stuffed her into a box and dumped her outside our door.  The only reason given for her rejection -- believe it or not -- was because she tries to eat Legos toys. The volunteer who found her wondered aloud: "Why didn't they just get rid of the Lego's and dump them in a nasty old box?" Despite being treated like trash, Sasha is a tremendous treasure!  She has an ocean full of love to share with the fortunate person or couple who adopts her to join their family. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these captivating pictures of Sasha !

How could they have walked away from us?

Daisy and Drake Daisy Drake Daisy and Drake were rescued from an abandoned house, along with two other kittens and two adult female cats.  All survived the ordeal. Daisy and Drake are now spayed/neutered, 3 months of age, and debuting for adoption today. They are sister and brother, and terrific together, but they can be adopted separately.  Daisy and Drake are as loving as they are cute, just as precious and endearing as imaginable. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for capturing their beautiful spirits in these portraits.

I am drawn to tender people.

Druzil is a distinguished Italian Greyhound who needs a new home.  His previous owner surrendered him due to financial hardship. He is warm-hearted with those he trusts, but initially shy and reserved. Druzil is neutered, 7 years of age, housetrained, crate-trained, and compatible with cats and dogs. Italian Greyhound knowledge and/or experience is preferred for his adoption.

I am all about sharing.

Image
Robin Hood makes everyone feel good, people and cats alike. He has a noble air, yet he is down-to-earth too. Robin Hood is a good-looking Orange Tabby, neutered boy, 8 years of age, ready for adoption today. He is a treasure we rescued after he was dumped and discarded on a doorstep. Please ask for Robin Hood by name when you visit Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

Please fulfill our expectations for a joyful future.

Image
Enzo Kenzie These babies have the most beautiful, innocent spirits. Brother and sister, Enzo and Kenzie are playful, bouncy, affectionate, and cheerful. They are reportedly Old English Sheepdogs and they were surrendered to us due to financial hardship.  We believe one of their parents may have been a Bearded Collie, but this is speculation.  ( Enzo looks like a purebred Old English Sheepdog, but sister Kenzie looks more like a Bearded Collie, at least so far.)  They are now spayed/neutered, 4 months of age, and ready for adoption. Enzo and Kenzie are terrific together.  They can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting them together for lifelong love and companionship. Old English Sheepdog knowledge and/or experience is needed due to their grooming needs and for caution needed to keep them from overheating in our desert climate.

What did dumping me teach the child?

Image
Countless innocent animals, like Scarlet , get kicked out of families in order to punish children.  It is a common problem with tragic implications. Caring for animals and making them members of the family, instead of using them as toys, is an adult responsibility. Having children sometimes assist in caretaking duties can be reasonable, but placing the entire responsibility on a minor surely is unconscionable. Then imagine the sense of failure and frustration the child feels when the animal is kicked out of the family.  Just as devastating, the kids are taught that animals are disposable and that they can be used as pawns in family squabbles. Scarlet is now ready for a proper, responsible home where her life will not be treated so recklessly.  She is a beautiful Dwarf & Marten mix rabbit, spayed girl, about 18 months young. Scarlet adores attention and she has a graceful confidence. Please ask for her by name in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.

We are soul-mates.

Image
Kya Sprinkles These two precious young girls needed us when their previous owner moved away without them. Both girls are one year of age.  Kya is an Abyssinian and Sprinkles is an American guinea pig. They are strongly bonded and need to remain together forever. Sprinkles has asthma so an experienced home is preferred. Please ask for Kya & Sprinkles in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.

I did nothing wrong, but the landlord said I was not welcome.

Image
Prince , a well-behaved and regal boy, is understandably confused about why he lost his previous home.  (The landlord instituted a no-pets policy.) He is a distinguished White German Shepherd, neutered boy, 3 years of age. Prince is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and compatible with mature kids and some dogs. German Shepherd knowledge and/or experience is required for his adoption. He reportedly loves to go swimming!

I was saved at the last minute!

We were in the parking lot of a government-funded shelter getting ready to bring a truck-load of rescued animals to Nevada SPCA.  We came across a woman holding a 10-day old puppy who was near death, fading away and cold to the touch.  The woman told us a guitar was accidentally dropped on the dog's head and she was bringing the puppy to the government-funded shelter to have her put to sleep. She agreed to give the dog to us instead so we could try to save her life.  We rushed her into an emergency veterinary hospital and then said many prayers.  Her chances seemed dim because of brain swelling, but this angel pulled through beautifully and we placed her in a foster home for continued recovery and bottle-feeding. We named this little miracle " Faith ".  She has fully recovered and blossomed brilliantly!  She cuddles, gives kisses, and she is as endearing and social as we could have hoped. Faith is a lovely blend of Toy breeds, perhaps with Rat Terrier and Chihuah

It is a joy to be alive!

We love and admire Peggy's sunny nature. She has appreciation for every new day and every kind person and dog. Peggy needed us when her previous owner died.  She is a medium-size Heinz 57 with Retriever, spayed girl, about 4 years of age. Besides getting along well with other dogs, she is reportedly housetrained and compatible with children. Peggy moves well on three legs.  She has done so her whole life.  Due to a birth defect, her front left leg is deformed. Please note she is intelligent and a bit of an escape artist, so it is important that you secure your home and yard for her safety and protection.

I am a big, nurturing girl.

Image
Betty Boop enjoys making new feline friends. In the free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms here at Nevada SPCA she likes to bathe and lick her best female friends on the face. Betty Boop is a bright-eyed, plump steel grey shorthair, spayed, about 7 years of age. She is affectionate to people also, but dogs scare her.  She needed us after her previous owner abandoned her in a small crate and walked away. Please adopt Betty Boop and provide a loving, indoor-only home for her safety and protection.

When you walk out the door, how do I know you will ever come back?

Image
Angel is a beautiful older girl who yearns for belonging to someone who will help her feel secure. She is a Yorkshire Terrier, spayed, about 10 years of age, and she needs regular professional grooming care. Angel has a jovial personality, but when a person leaves her, she reportedly can panic and begin nipping at their heels, begging them to stay.  This behavior is the reason she lost her previous home, but it can be corrected through basic training techniques.  An experienced home is needed. She is compatible with both cats and dogs and she is reportedly housetrained and crate-trained too.

Mixed breeds like me are supremely unique and just as full of unconditional love as purebreeds.

Image
DJ is cheerful and well-behaved and irresistible. He is a Dachshund mix, neutered boy, one year young, and ready for adoption today to a loving, forever home. DJ needed us due to his previous owner's "apartment issues". Besides getting along well with other dogs, he is reportedly housetrained and compatible with kind children and loves to play fetch. DJ relishes crawling under blankets to take his naps. Please visit and ask to have DJ meet you in the adoption courtyard. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for illuminating his joyful nature in this breath-taking portrait.

They call me a sweet little lamb.

Image
Such an enchanting boy, we think Monty is magical and he has a stellar temperament. The best guess is that he is an Affenpinscher & small Terrier mix.  He is neutered and about 2 years young. He is affable and lovable, yet he has ridiculously bounced around from owner to owner.  We know he was recently at a government-funded shelter, adopted from there, and then surrendered to us for no stated reason. Monty gets along well with other dogs.  His wiry outer coat may need weekly brushing. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for capturing his endearing spirit in this beautiful portrait.

They wanted my babies, but they did not want me.

Image
Mamacita is an endearing young girl with hypnotic eyes. She is a beautiful blend of feline breeds, quite unique, spayed, and about 1-2 years of age. Mamacita needed us when her previous owner sold, bartered, or handed away her kittens, and then was done with her. She is friendly and loving and hopeful for an indoor-only, forever home. Please ask for Mamacita by name in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

I am a 6-pound sweetheart.

Wolfgang is a loving, regal pup with a lyrical personality. He is a Chinese Crested, neutered boy, 11 months of age.  Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety and protection. Wolfgang is compatible with most dogs and he is reportedly housetrained. Chinese Crested breed knowledge is required so he can get proper skin care.   (Most of his body is hairless.) At the time of rescue from another shelter, Wolfgang had been exposed to the dreaded parvo disease.  Thanks to your donations , we were able to give him the advanced medical care necessary to save his life, and Wolfgang made a full, valiant recovery.  Thank you to all of you who support animal rescue and adoption.

I never want to go hungry again, please.

Image
Apache has become such a regal, magnificent boy and we are so proud of him. At the time of rescue he was emaciated from starvation, on the mean streets and distraught with hunger and weakness. We have been carefully monitoring his food and treats and supplements and his weight gain has been steady and right on track. Apache is a stunning silver tabby, neutered boy, about 8 years of age. Please keep him strictly indoors so that he never knows danger again.

My sister gives me comfort and peace-of-mind, even during the scary times.

Image
Patchouli Tutu These gorgeous young girls are sweet little loves. Patchouli & Tutu are sisters, and soul-mates, and they need to remain together forever. They are guinea pigs, about 2 years of age, and they needed us because their previous owner suspected allergies to them. Unfortunately and tragically, countless animals become homeless due to suspected allergies, usually self-diagnosed, without ever visiting doctors to confirm that they are indeed allergic to animals, much less pursue courses of action with their doctors so they can keep their families intact. Patchouli & Tutu need an indoor-only lifestyle for their safety and protection in our extreme desert climate. Both girls are making steady progress with being held and handled by staff and volunteers.

Can humans make lifetime commitments to us?

Image
Marla Carla These adorable baby girls were handed off from person to person, recklessly.  We rescued them from a man who told us, in front of his daughters, that he was ready to sling them in the streets because he did not want them anymore. Marla and Carla are angelic puppies, sisters, now spayed and ready for adoption.  They are Heinz 57s, beautiful blends of breeds, perhaps with Shepherd, about 3 months of age, and expected to grow to medium or large size. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety and protection. Marla and Carla can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting them together for lifelong love and companionship.

Please get a tall cat tree for me.

Image
Veronica needed us when her previous owners moved out of the country. She is a petite, sleek shorthair, young spayed girl just under a year of age. Veronica is bouncy and athletic and enjoys cat naps on high perches. Besides adoring people, she is friendly with other cats and respectful of their space. Please ask for Veronica by name when you visit Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

My emotional walls are coming down.

Image
We admire Sunset's progress with learning to trust people again.  This is a slow, steady, beautiful thing to watch. She is a gorgeous young girl we rescued from a park.  She had been abandoned there to fend for herself, like countless others, but as you know, domesticated rabbits cannot survive on their own.  Many die from starvation, or get struck by vehicles as they seek out someone to feed them, or they lure coyotes onto golf courses and neighborhood parks for easy meals. Sunset is a Satin mix with a tender nature.  She is about one year of age, now spayed and ready for adoption. Please visit Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room and ask for this sweetheart by name.

Do not even think I will let you ignore me.

Image
Velvet is a precious baby girl who triumphantly survived a terrible threat to her life. At the time of rescue her previous owner would not or could not provide the emergency medical care needed to save her from the deadly parvo virus. We rushed her into a veterinary hospital, and after extensive treatments, she made a full recovery. Velvet is a tiny Miniature Pinscher, spayed, about 3 months of age. She craves and demands attention, and she may scream if you disregard her.   This screaming is not uncommon in puppies and usually diminishes with time. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection. Thank you to all of you who donate to Nevada SPCA so that we can provide advanced medical care to community animals in need, like Velvet .

I am 85 pounds of joy.

Image
Flex is a whimsical, well-behaved youngster with a fabulous temperament. He is a Mastiff mix, neutered boy, 2 years young. Besides being good with other dogs, Flex is reportedly housetrained and compatible with cats and children. He loves shaking paws and playing fetch. Flex needed us when his previous owners moved.

Seniors like me may especially be grateful for loving homes.

Image
At 12 years of age, Murphy mistakenly gets overlooked by most visitors.  But he is a treasure!  He is enthusiastic, friendly, affectionate, even-tempered, loyal, and humble. Please come and meet him.  We think you will find his happy-go-lucky nature simply irresistible! Murphy is a Schnauzer & Terrier mix, neutered boy, and we rescued him after he was abandoned at a local veterinary clinic.  He is compatible with other dogs and well-behaved on a leash and in cars and on walks. The emotional rewards from adopting senior rescued animals are immense.   We hope you will open your heart to Murphy and the other seniors pleading for consideration.

Your loving home will be my kingdom.

Image
Margaret is a beautiful baby girl who delights in exploring every nook and cranny of every room she adventures into.  She is a fearless tom-boy with an inquisitive nature. She is a Calico kitten, spayed, about 4 months of age, and ready for adoption into a loving, forever home.  Like all cats, she needs to live indoors only for her safety and protection. Margaret was surrendered to us many weeks ago by a person abandoning multiple cats with, frankly, an incoherent background story for them.  We had no space at the time, so we raised her in an office area near rabbits, and she loved walking among their bunny condos, getting to know each of them. Though independent, Margaret has an affectionate nature and she will enjoy you taking time to play with her each day, whether with a string, a toy tunnel, cat tree, etc. Please ask for her by name in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

I was devastated when they left me behind.

Image
Laika was rescued from a vacant foreclosed home, in terrible condition, emaciated and dirty and desperate for reassurance. We believe she had been there for weeks, trying to survive on her own without fresh food or clean water. She is steadily regaining weight and we cleaned her up and had her ears flushed.  She is lively again, and hopeful, and yearns for gentle companionship. Laika is a petite, dainty brown tabby with white, spayed girl, about 4 years of age. Please adopt her and cherish her every day, so that she never needs to fear being abandoned again. When you visit Nevada SPCA's Cat Condo playrooms, please ask for Laika by name.

Will my future be bright and full of love?

Image
Cleo Cleo is an endearing baby girl with a loving nature. She is a Labrador Retriever pup, spayed, about 5-6 months of age, expected to grow to large size. We rescued Cleo and her mother and brother from a neglectful home where they were banished to living solely in the backyard.  Her mother, Ishall (pictured below), was spayed and adopted earlier this month.  Her brother, Anthony , was sick with parvo at the time of rescue, but we had extensive treatment for him at a local veterinary hospital and he made a full recovery.  Anthony gets neutered later this week and then he will be ready for adoption. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection. Cleo enjoys other sweet dogs. Ishall

I have decided to give humans another chance.

Months of loving care from staff and volunteers have helped persuade little TJ that people are capable of kindness after all. A victim of abuse, at the time of rescue he did not want much to do with any of us.  But now, TJ warms to those he trusts, even flipping over on his back for belly rubs.  He responds best to soft-spoken, gentle people.   An experienced, adult-only home is needed for him. TJ is a Chihuahua, neutered boy, about 6 years of age. He gets along very well with other dogs, and we believe he will do best in a home with another dog (or two) to bond with. Very special thanks to Arica at Pet'ographique for this portrait which captures TJ's new sense of hope and curiosity, and to volunteers Bobbi, John, and Marlene who escort the animals to her studio each week for professional portraits.

All of these years, and all they wanted was to exploit us for puppies?

Image
Bonnie Bear   Bonnie & Bear were thrown away in after-hours cages at another shelter by their previous owner. The pair are very strongly bonded, soul-mates, and the shelter asked Nevada SPCA to take them so we could find them a forever home together. Bonnie's anatomy reveals that she has been bred for puppies many, many times.  Both Bonnie and Bear are Chihuahuas, about 8 years of age.  Bonnie is a girl and Bear is a boy.  They are now spayed/neutered and ready to join a loving home, which has been denied them until now by a person who has been exploiting them to make money off of their puppies.  Both are sweethearts with mellow, tender natures. Please adopt them and show them that they have a remarkable intrinsic value of their own, just the way they are.

We are blooming now that we are healthy and well.

Image
Daisy Rose Update: Rose was adopted on March 14! Update: Daisy was adopted on March 12! Daisy and Rose are baby girls who came from two different litters and were sick with the parvo virus at the time of rescue. We had emergency medical care provided for both puppies, and after extensive treatment, the girls made full recoveries. Daisy is endearing and has a loving nature.  She is most likely a Pointer mix, now spayed about between 4-5 months of age. Rose is affectionate, spunky, and playful.  She is a Heinz 57 with Retriever, now spayed about about 4 months young. The girls are available for adoption separately.   Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety and protection.

He followed my bloody paw prints and rescued me.

Image
A fireman rescued Pele when an abandoned, foreclosed home was burning down.  The fireman said he could hear him, but the cat was traumatized and very difficult to locate.  He found him by tracking the bloody paw prints to his hiding place. Fast forward a few months, and now Pele's pads have healed and he is triumphantly ready for adoption.  His front pads had the most severe burns and he can walk on them, though understandably gingerly at times. Pele is a handsome Ragdoll mix with baby blue eyes.  He is neutered and approximately 5 years of age.  He has a calm temperament and prefers lounging around peacefully and comfortably. He is best as the only cat.  While he loves gentle people, he gets grumpy quickly with other felines. Please ask for Pele by name in the Cat Condos.  He seeks a caring, forever home where he can always remain safely indoors.

Sorry -- under maintenance

We apologize for not being able to add new features the past few days.  There is a problem with uploading images that is being worked on.  Please check back soon.  In the meantime, please visit Nevada SPCA's main web site and Facebook to see rescued animals' pictures and backgrounds.  Thank you.

The home foreclosure crisis is still endangering innocent lives, like ours.

Image
Horace Edgar Horace & Edgar are strongly bonded baby boy guinea pigs rescued from a vacated yard.  We want to honor their bond by adopting them together for lifelong companionship. Both boys are approximately 5 months of age.  Horace is an American breed and Edgar is a Peruvian. Having scavenged to survive, the boys never take their good meals here for granted.  They squeal in ecstatic delight each day when we bring them their bowls of fresh salad greens. We have been handling Horace & Edgar and they are making steady improvements with being held by people.

Mixed breeds like me are each wonderfully unique.

Image
Update: Nemo has been adopted! Nemo is a jolly, loving little guy. We admire his super cheery nature. Nemo is a small Terrier mix, neutered, about 4 years of age. He needed us because both of his previous owners were disabled and unable to care for him any longer. Nemo delights in other friendly dogs and he is reportedly compatible with mature, gentle children.  He is also reportedly housetrained (with a doggie door). Please plan on at least weekly brushing to keep his long coat clean and looking good.

They call me a purr-ball.

Image
Update: Lilly has been adopted! Non-stop cuddling and playing is Lilly's aim. She has a sweet, vigorous purr, and we find ourselves holding her belly by our ears to hear her rhythmic satisfaction every time she is held. Lilly is still a kitten at about 8 months of age.  She is a Snowshoe and Siamese mix, spayed, and ready for adoption today in the free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms. Lilly does well with other cats too.  Because she is so affectionate it would be ideal if the other cat in the household enjoys engaging other felines too in play and snuggles. She needed us because her previous owners believed they were allergic to her. Like all cats, she needs an indoor-only home for her safety and protection.

Don't tell anyone, but there is a heart of gold under my gruff exterior.

Image
Like Archie Bunker, little Kobe is an adorable grouch. He is all love once he knows and trusts you.  But especially with strangers, he is wary and moody. Kobe is a tiny, rustic older Chihuahua with mousy good looks.  He is neutered and about 9 years of age. He needed us when his previous owners moved out of state without him. Kobe gets along well with other dogs.  He may be housetrained too, though he is used to living day and night in just one room of the house. Please ask for this grumpy little cutie by name when you visit.  He will do best in a calm, stable, adult-only home.

I still feel lost.

Image
Most of the dogs we rescue from other shelters seem to lighten up and relax, and begin to bloom with confidence, after about 3 days with us, perhaps due to toys and blankets and double meals, etc. But Silas is confused and adrift still, despite our efforts.  We are hopeful though that any day now his emotional walls will come down.  We carry him from room-to-room because he is too shy to walk yet on a leash. Silas is a soulful boy with a tender soul.  He is most likely a Portugese Water Dog mix.  He is neutered and about 3 years of age. Silas gets along well with other dogs and we believe he may do best in a home with a big brother or big sister dog to help him adjust.
