Update: Caesar was adopted on January 31st! Caesar is a noble boy who needed us when his previous owner's landlord put in a breed restriction policy. He is an Azores Cattle Dog, a breed from islands in Portugal used for herding cattle, also known as "Cao Fila de Sao Miguel".  He was reportedly shipped to the United States when he was a puppy by a breeder.  He is neutered, approximately 4 years of age, and debuting for adoption today.  Caesar prefers women and he is wary of strange men.  A very strong boy, he could be dangerous in the wrong hands, so we must be strict about adopting him into a very experienced home with an owner knowledgeable about his breed and needs. He is well-behaved.  Besides being housetrained and crate-trained, he has had obedience training and he knows many commands. We do not believe he has ever been around children.  Though he is friendly and we have no reports of aggression, to err on the safe side, he requires an adult-only home or

Please make sure I never go hungry again.

Update: Margie was adopted on December 31st! The gleam and sparkle are returning to Margie's eyes. She is feeling better, valiantly recovering from near starvation.  She is still quite thin, so she needs to continue gaining weight in a new home. We rescued Margie from another shelter.  She had been taken there by an officer who found her emaciated body in the field. Margie is a Yorkshire Terrier, spayed girl, approximately 4 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She is great with other dogs and needs regular professional grooming care. She is a sweetheart, but as Margie is feeling better a feisty side is emerging too, so an experienced home is required (without young children).

I still believe in the kindness and goodness of people.

Update: Bentley was adopted on January 29th! A joyful youngster with a robust spirit, Bentley holds tremendous loving potential. He seems almost unfazed by the cruelty he endured.  At the time of rescue he was being viciously punched and kicked by a man on a sidewalk.  Physically and emotionally, he has recovered better than expected. Bentley still looks like a puppy, though we believe he is about 18 months of age.  He is most likely a Retriever & Bully mix.  He is now neutered and debuting for adoption today. We believe he will do best with basic dog training.  He is eager to please, so we think he may be a fast learner. Please adopt him and shield him from ever seeing the darker side of human nature again.

I love sleeping on a pillow in a basket under a cozy blanket.

Update: Duncan was adopted on January 21st! Duncan is hoping for a nurturing person who will pamper and cherish him every day. He is a senior Pekingese, homeless at 12 years of age due to his previous owners moving into an apartment that does not allow dogs. Duncan is neutered, housetrained (with a doggie door), compatible with cats and dogs and mature children, and he debuts for adoption today. He likes taking short walks and playing in water.  (If his ears look a bit wet in this portrait it is because he had just been playing with his water bowl.) Pekingese knowledge and/or experience is preferred for his adoption.  Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him. Adopting a senior can provide untold emotional rewards to you and they have just as much unconditional love as puppies .

I would love to show you my sparkling personality.

Update: Chappy was adopted on January 4th! Incredibly lovable, Chappy is a good-natured boy ready to steal your heart. He is an attractive Toy & Terrier mix, neutered, about 3 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. We rescued Chappy from a government shelter that ran out of space to keep him.  He was a ball of knots and tangles, but we shaved him down and this jolly sweetheart was beaming up at us under all that mess.   (His body is shaved, though we kept as much of the hair around his head and face as we could.) Chappy gets along very well with other friendly dogs.  Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him to keep him at his best, feeling like a million bucks.

I almost lost all hope. I was so weak I could not lift my head up off the floor.

What an endearing young girl Roxy is, her soulful eyes mesmerizing. She is sensitive and reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and fine with mature kids.  A medium-size Heinz 57, steel grey, with Bully, she is spayed and about one year of age, debuting for adoption today. Roxy has made an astounding, full recovery from the dreaded parvo virus.  Several weeks ago she was at a local veterinary clinic, so critically ill she could barely move, dehydrated, and her owner at that time could not or would not pay for the medical care needed to save her life.  The hospital contacted us and asked us to take Roxy, which we did, and she was rushed into emergency medical care for treatment. She has unconditional love to share, and now she has the opportunity to bless someone special, or a couple or a family, with all of her heart.

I humbly ask if I can join your pack.

Update: Cheyla was adopted on December 30th! Cheyla is a petite, chatty, beautiful lady debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She is a Cocker Spaniel, spayed, about 8 years of age. Cheyla adores other dogs.  We believe she will do best in a home with another dog (or dogs) who she can bond with, along with you. Please plan on regular professional grooming care for her to keep her looking and feeling good. We rescued Cheyla from a government shelter that ran out of space to keep her.

The violence to me was not necessary.

Fuzzball is a gorgeous young girl with the temperament and affectionate nature of a Ragdoll breed.  She goes limp in your arms when you pick her up and trusts you to be gentle with her. Her previous owner (or monster) failed to destroy her trust in kind people, despite dangerously heaving her out of the window of a moving car in our parking lot. This terrible incident was witnessed by one of our staff, who scooped up her body and raced her inside to the veterinary clinic to check for broken bones or broken teeth or other injuries. Though shaken up badly emotionally, fortunately Fuzzball was not injured physically.  She is a 2 year-old, now spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and ready for adoption into a loving home, free of violence. Fuzzball enjoys other sweet, respectful cats and she craves tender loving care and attention from people.  Her medium-hair coat needs regular brushing. Please ask for her in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

Toys? Who needs toys? I am all about loving people.

Rojo Grande is a mellow, easy-going girl. But solitude makes her anxious, and if left alone unattended, she reportedly tries to escape to find people again.  This is reportedly why she lost her home.  Her previous owners said she could jump a 6-foot wall or fence when left alone. The good news for Rojo Grande is that there are a number of helpful options to keep her safely secure in your home, including crate-training when you are gone. Rojo Grande is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and compatible with cats and dogs.  She is a medium-size Retriever & Bully mix with mocha coloring, spayed, and approximately 7 years of age.

They decided I was less important than the new furniture.

Imagine loving your family with all of your heart, unconditionally, but being rejected because they do not want you to get the new furniture dirty. This is reportedly what happened to Sugar Cookie -- her previous owner's new husband said she was no longer welcome. This is just wrong on so many levels that we cannot even get started commenting on it without taking away the space needed to shine a spotlight on this darling young girl who needs a new home.  (We trust you are thinking the same thing!) Sugar Cookie is a Longhair Chihuahua, spayed, about 2 years of age, housetrained, good with dogs, and debuting for adoption today. Though gentle, she has become strong-willed, probably due to abuse (physical or screaming), so an experienced, adult-only home is needed for her.  She is emerging from her emotional shell though, slowly and steadily, and this needs to continue in her new home. Sugar Cookie delights in belly rubs, short walks, and being held and carried. Adopt her

Ginger has a showgirl's personality, she craves attention and adoration. She is a sweet Terrier mix, medium size, spayed, about 3 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. We rescued Ginger from another shelter.  She had been surrendered there supposedly due to being aggressive with other dogs.  But we have had her mingle with several dogs without incident. She is reportedly housetrained and she needs regular brushing of her medium-length coat. Please ask for this superstar by name when you visit and spend time with her in our adoption courtyard.

I am so proud of how well I am adjusting.

Update: James was adopted on December 30th! James sports a sunny nature that suits him beautifully. He is an attractive Pekingese, neutered male, about 4 years of age. We rescued James from another shelter and he had a very severe left eye injury that had hemorrhaged.  We asked a veterinary hospital to try and save his eye, but this was not possible and his eye was removed. James has been healing very well, physically and emotionally.  Living in the moment, full of joy for life, he never seemed to fret about all of the challenges. He is compatible with other friendly dogs and needs regular professional grooming care. Please come visit and ask to meet James by name.

We are each a bundle of love.

Jude and Julius Update: Jude and Julius were adopted on December 30th! We are so pleased that these two babies have such light-hearted, affectionate personalities. Especially since both had to overcome a life-threatening disease at the time of rescue.  They were sick with the parvo virus and their previous owner could not or would not provide the medical care for them necessary to save their lives, nor even make a donation to help us save them. We rushed them into emergency medical care at a local veterinary clinic, and after extensive treatment, both made full recoveries. Today, Jude and Julius , who are sister and brother, triumphantly debut for adoption. They are spayed/neutered, about 4 months of age, and reportedly Cane Corso and Bully mixes, so we expect them to possibly grow to large size. Jude and Julius can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting them together for lifelong love and companionship. We were empowered to save these angels thanks to your

We were jumping for joy after we were rescued.

Maggie and Hedy Before dawn one morning a few weeks ago, our security guard found a small parakeet cage by our front door, completely stuffed full with 10 baby bunnies ("kits").  They were jammed in so tight, on top of one another, they could barely even wiggle. We were so worried the ones at the bottom had been crushed, but they somehow escaped injury.  All 10 -- 5 girls and 5 boys -- survived.  As soon as we set them up in bunny condos, they were ecstatically munching Timothy Hay and fresh veggies and drinking fresh water in obvious delight, jumping and racing about in joy and relief. Our best guess, based on the reckless cruelty of their abandonment, and the fact that some were New Zealand Whites, was that they were being raised for food, either for people or snakes.  (Sometimes friends and family members of owners who eat rabbits will rescue them and bring them to us.) Maggie and Hedy are two of the girls who are now spayed and ready for adoption into loving ho

Update: Tiko was adopted on December 30th! Tiko is full of good cheer, a radiant young boy who is eager to bless someone special with his unconditional love. He is a dashing Pomeranian, neutered, about 3 years of age, debuting for adoption today. Besides getting along with other dogs, Tiko is reportedly housetrained and compatible with cats and mature kids. Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him and budget extra accordingly. Tiko was in a loving home, but his previous owner became too ill to care for him further. Please visit and ask for this sweetheart by name.

I would love a new home.

Update: Jenna was adopted on December 29th! Jenna is an adorable little lovebug, gentle and very sweet. She is a Lhasa Apso mix, spayed girl, about 3 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Jenna enjoys other good-natured dogs and needs regular professional grooming care. Her past is mainly a mystery.  She was brought to us by a person who claimed she was transferring them from another rescue group that could not afford her care.  She did have mammary tumors, which we had removed at a local veterinary clinic, and they were deemed benign and she was given a favorable prognosis. Jenna impresses us with her jolly spirit.  Though a small girl, she has a huge amount of love to share.

Please help me build confidence in myself.

Image
Update: Peter was adopted on December 31st! Peter tries so hard to please and he yearns to fit in and belong, but self-doubt has created an emotional wall that he needs to hurdle.  This is not uncommon with dogs who were denied proper socialization as puppies. Peter is a youngster, 2 years of age, a good-looking Australian Cattle Dog mix, neutered, and very sweet.  He debuts for adoption today. In a foster home he has learned housetraining, crate-training, and compatibility with cats and dogs and mature kids.  He has even had some basic dog obedience training. A gentle, patient home with help Peter feel secure so that his personality can continue to develop.

My heart is full of love for everyone.

Bitsy Boo needed us when her previous owner moved into a living situation where animals are not allowed. [Note: These situations are so sad, and often unnecessary.  Because of the terrible local economy, there are a huge number of apartment complexes that have changed their pet policies to allow animals as a way to generate business.] Bitsy Boo is a darling Yorkshire Terrier, spayed girl, about 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today. She adores people and delights in bonding with cats, dogs, and mature kids.  She is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and enamored with squeaky toys. Please plan on regular professional grooming care and budget extra accordingly.

I wear a natural tuxedo that God gave me.

Update: Mars was adopted on January 8th! Mars is a super cute puppy, eager to please, but needing direction from an experienced owner. He play-bites, sometimes hard, a behavior that should have been corrected in his previous home.  With professional dog training, Mars will channel his energy into good behaviors and learn that biting is unacceptable. He is approximately 6 months of age, a Retriever & Bully mix, growing to medium size, neutered, and available for adoption today. Please give him the good guidance he needs in order to reach his full loving potential.

I did not understand why he hit me.

Image
Update: Mistletoe was adopted on December 27th! Mistletoe is a precious baby girl, a Jack Russell Terrier puppy of 7 months, with tremendous loving potential. Her heart is pure gold, she is full of energy, and she is learning to trust humans again. The background on Mistletoe that we received was that she was bred for sale by a local backyard breeder.  She was sold as a very young puppy, but then taken back from the purchaser because he was abusing and mistreating her.  The breeder then brought her to Nevada SPCA because she was 'too old' to sell again. We had Mistletoe spayed and she debuts for adoption today. She enjoys other sweet dogs and needs a patient owner who will help her continue her emotional recovery from the abuse.  Lots of daily playtime and a stable lifestyle routine will go far in letting her feel safe and secure. As we always need to mention with pups, please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection.

Maybe I just needed good guidance, that's all.

Image
Update: Cocoa Bean was adopted on January 8th! Cocoa Bean lost her previous home just days before Christmas because she was having accidents in the house. But without a doggie door or a regular walking schedule or frequent bathroom breaks, or even crate-training, was this really her fault? Our experience is that the key to housetraining is a steady lifestyle routine and schedule.   Cocoa Bean is a pretty little lady, spayed, a brindle Chihuahua, about 6 years of age, and she debuts for adoption today. Besides getting along well with other dogs, she is reportedly fine with cats and older kids.

Is everything going to be okay for me?

Image
Update: Maggie was adopted on December 24th! Maggie does not yet realize that she is safe.  Her eyes reveal her great apprehension and confusion. Her previous owner was hospitalized for an extended period.  Friends and neighbors took turns watching over and caring for Maggie , but it became evident that her owner was not coming home anytime soon and wished Maggie to be turned into Nevada SPCA so she could find a new owner. She is an intelligent, sweet Border Collie mix, spayed girl, about 4 years of age. Maggie is reportedly fine with cats and dogs and she is timid around men she does not know and trust. She needs a patient owner who understands that she will reassert her personality as she feels more secure and settled.

Every day is a play day to me.

Image
Update: Lexor was adopted on December 24th! There is no doubt at all that Lexor will provide a lifetime of entertainment, along with a lifetime of love. Watching him play, we see YouTube moments we wish we could catch on film to show how athletic and silly and fun-loving he can be. Lexor is an adorable medium-hair, parti-colored feline with a half mustache and piercing eyes.  He is neutered, about 9 months of age, and ready for adoption today. Lexor enjoys other cats, but since he plays a bit rough he does best with other cats who are also outgoing and can handle his intense play. Please visit Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms and ask for him by name. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this stunning portrait that captures his personality so beautifully.

I expected to be in a loving home for my first Christmas.

Image
Update: Sophie was adopted on December 24th! Sophie is a darling Brussels Griffon, still a puppy at 10 months of age, with a very sweet, humble nature. She lost her home just two days before Christmas because a homeowner's association threatened to fine her previous family for having too many dogs. Sophie is good with other dogs and reportedly housetrained and compatible with mature, kind children. Please plan on regular grooming care for her and carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection. Sophie is spayed and debuts for adoption today.  Please ask for her by name.

I ache to have indoor access and feel like a member of the family.

Image
Update: Autumn was adopted on January 8th! Living just in the backyard is no good, especially for social animals like Autumn . We can only imagine her heartache at hearing her family indoors, seeing them through a sliding glass door, but not able to join them inside. Autumn lost her home reportedly because she can jump and scale high walls and fences.  We do not know for sure, but our guess is that she did so out of loneliness and frustration.  Nonetheless, a very secure home and yard are important for her safety and protection. Autumn is a playful, loving young girl, spayed, a Labrador Retriever mix approximately 2 years of age. Please be patient with her as she adjusts to living predominantly indoors with you as a cherished member of the family.

With tender loving care I will continue to blossom.

Update: Lila was adopted on February 1st! Lila is a gorgeous little angel who we rescued from another shelter that ran out of space for her. She is shy, but warming to us a bit more each day, and today she debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Lila is a Toy & Terrier mix with cute wing-like ears that feather dramatically with her blond coat.  She is spayed and approximately 6 years of age.  We had a dental cleaning done for her upon rescue. She enjoys other dogs.  We believe she will do best in quieter home.  She is on the verge of a big breakthrough with trust and feeling secure. Please visit and ask to meet Lila by name. Note: Lila is available for adoption.  She was adopted, but returned for being so energetic.  Her previous mom said she is housetrained and adores cats.

I am a cuddlebug.

Image
Update: Kandi Cane was adopted on December 24th! Kandi Cane is a world-class snuggler.  She is gently affectionate and very warm-hearted with tender people. She is a petite, beautiful Beagle, spayed girl, about 3 years young, debuting for adoption today on Christmas Eve. Kandi Cane enjoys other dogs, especially calm ones, and Beagle experience and/or knowledge is preferred for her adoption. She needed us when her previous owners lost the family home to foreclosure.

They gave me up so I could get adopted into a cozy home.

Image
Update: Buddy was adopted on January 13th! Buddy's previous owners loved him, but they became homeless and had to live out of a car.  They did not want to give him up, especially because of his older age (10 years), but they wanted him to have a chance for a better life. Buddy is a sweet, rustic, friendly trooper, still with lots of zip. He is a Yorkshire Terrier, neutered boy, and he debuts for adoption today. Buddy delights in loving people and engaging other dogs, and he is reportedly compatible with cats too.  Please plan on regular grooming care for him. There are deep, untold emotional rewards that come with adopting seniors.  Every day of life is precious and seniors have just as much unconditional love to share as puppies and youngsters.

I wiggle with enthusiasm.

Image
Daisy is a precious baby girl and we find her completely irresistible. We believe she is a Toy & Terrier mix.  She is spayed, about 5 months of age, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Please plan on regular professional grooming and carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection. We rescued Daisy from another shelter that asked us for help because of her cherry eye condition.  We had this repaired for her and she has been healing well. She is a social girl and she adores people and other dogs. As with all companion animals, please only consider her if you can make a lifetime commitment to her.

I am as joyful as a Matisse painting.

Image
Update: Xavier was adopted on December 27th! Xavier greets us with such enormous jubilation and innocent happiness that he called to mind Matisse's masterpiece "Le Bonheur de Vivre" (Joy of Life). Xavier is a masterpiece in his own right.  He has unconditional love and devotion and he is eager to share with you. He is a Labrador Retriever, neutered boy, approximately 3 years of age, housetrained, and good with children. Xavier is fine with dogs once he gets used to them, but reportedly frightened of dogs he does not know. He needed us when his previous owner moved to an apartment that did not accept large dogs. Xavier debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

I love to shake paws.

Image
Update: Shadow was adopted on January 5th! Gorgeous inside and out, Shadow is a radiant girl with an easy-going demeanor and she adores children and adults. She needs to be the only animal in the home.  She reportedly lost her previous home due to not being compatible with other animals. Shadow (the name she came in with) is a large German Shepherd mix, possibly mixed with Akita.  She is spayed and about 8 years of age and reportedly housetrained. She loves shaking hands/paws with you, and seems to do so as a way to share her good mood and to make you happy.

I became homeless despite doing nothing wrong.

Image
Update: Tiger was adopted on December 24th! We think Tiger brightens every room he is in, his sunny nature glowing and sparkling with good cheer. He is a cute Cockapoo, neutered male, about 7 years of age, debuting for adoption today. Tiger is compatible with other friendly dogs and reportedly housetrained (with a doggie door).  Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him. An adult-only home is ideal for Tiger .  We do not believe he has ever been around children. He needed us due to his previous owner's financial hardship.

Will you love me when I grow old?

Image
Update: Kayton was adopted on December 23rd! Kayton is a super lovable, playful puppy with a beautiful temperament. He is a Labrador Retriever, neutered boy, about 3 months of age, debuting for adoption today. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety and protection. We rescued him when he was a newborn, out on the streets without his mother.  We placed him in a loving foster home for tender care and socialization. Please be sure you can fully commit to Kayton for his entire life.  He needs an experienced home to help him with good guidance.

They say I am as sweet as a sugar plum.

Nutmeg is full of affection and enjoys showing his adoration by rubbing his whiskers and cheeks against you. He is a good-looking boy, neutered, orange tabby & white shorthair, approximately 5 years of age. At the time of rescue we found Nutmeg outdoors, injured from having one of his front legs caught in his collar and he had rubbed it raw trying to get loose. He is better now, yearning for a loving home that will be everlasting.  Please visit and ask for Nutmeg by name in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

We are hopeful for a Christmas miracle -- a loving forever home.

Jellybean & Licorice Update: Jellybean & Licorice were adopted on December 22nd! If only it was all about personality, then Jellybean & Licorice , a super-sweet and cheery sister-brother team, would have been snatched up by someone wonderful immediately after debuting for adoption. But the months have rolled by, as it often does for mixed breed dogs who are larger than Toy size and have black coats.  Nationwide, as we have written here before, these dogs are mistakenly overlooked in shelters. Pet'ographique has very generously helped us spotlight this pair of superstars with a brand new professional portrait, showing them at their eager, humble, gracious best. If you have room for a pair of soul-mates, then we urge you to consider Jellybean & Licorice .  They are medium-size Retriever mixes (smaller than most Retrievers), spayed/neutered, about 6 years of age.  Jellybean is a bit more petite than her tuxedo-clad brother Licorice . We rescued them from

Tender loving care has helped me feel like a princess.

Update: Claudia was adopted on December 22nd! This angel was roaming the streets, starving, apparently on her own for some time due to her extremely emaciated condition at the time of rescue.  She was terrified and it looked like we could see every bone in her fragile body. We named her Claudia and placed her in a very loving foster home for the best of care.  Her foster mom cooked special meals for her and supplemented them with a vitamin gel that contains additional calories. As the weeks went by and she regained weight and energy, her personality began to blossom too, and she went from sulking and crawling to prancing around the house and engaging the other dogs there.   She also enjoys crawling under the covers and snuggling. Claudia is still timid with strangers, but very warm-hearted with those she knows and trusts. Today, she is ready for adoption into a forever home.  Claudia is a petite, lovely Chihuahua, spayed, about one year of age.  She is housetrained (with a

I want you close because I am afraid of continuing to lose the ones I love.

Update: Lulu was adopted on December 23rd! Rich with devotion, Lulu is ready to be a loyal, lifelong companion for someone willing and able to return her unconditional love. She is a small Puggle (Pug & Beagle mix), spayed girl, about 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today. Her previous owner left her at a veterinary clinic after finding out that she had bladder stones, unwilling and/or unable to give her the care she needed to get the stones removed and end the excruciating pain.  The clinic contacted us and asked us to please consider saving this sweet girl who otherwise had little hope. We had to act very quickly.  Fortunately, one of our volunteers generously stepped forward to help with her advanced surgery to remove the stones. Lulu has been healing well from the surgery and she is now ready for adoption.  For life, she is on a special diet (Science Diet c/d) to reduce the chances that any further stones will develop. We believe Lulu will do best with an ow

Fitzwilliam is an irresistible baby bunny with a fun-loving personality. Full of energy, he loves doing "the Bunny 500" -- an affectionate term for the running and jumping of a happy, dancing rabbit.  Fitzwilliam is a very attractive Dutch mix, neutered boy, about 6 months of age.  We rescued him from another shelter along with his six siblings. Please ask for him by name in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.  He is ready for adoption into a forever home today.

Is there room in your family for me?

Update: Missy was adopted on December 24th! Missy likes resting and hiding in her cubby hole, but she bravely comes out to greet us and when we deliver her daily greens and veggies. She is fine with being held, as long as you are gentle and patient with her, and hold her for only short times. Missy is a beautiful American breed guinea pig with cocoa, orange, and white coloring, about 3 years of age. Despite being such a sweetheart and well-behaved, her previous owner no longer wanted her.  Like all animals, she deserves someone who will remain committed to her for her whole life. Missy is ready for adoption today in Nevada SPCA's Lovebug Room.

Christmas week dedication to seniors, longtime residents, and animals with special needs.

Drew Leeda Mae West For the first time ever, our annual Christmas Eve adoption special lasts all of Christmas week! Beginning Monday at 11am, through Friday (Christmas Eve) at 3pm, we are reducing adoption fees by 50% for Nevada SPCA's rescued senior animals, longest-time residents, and those with special behavioral or medical needs.  In addition, we are sending them home with extra supplies (which can include animal beds, toys, blankets, treats, etc.) at no charge. The foundation of no-kill work is rehabilitation and the belief that every healthy and friendly animal is adoptable.  This dedication each year brings forth wonderful, committed people who share our love for animals of all ages, sizes, breeds, colors, and personality types. More than 250 rescued animals at Nevada SPCA qualify for this adoption special.  Please visit and meet these sweethearts in person. [A note on "gifting" of animals: We do not believe one person can choose to obligate anothe

How could they just give me away to a stranger on the internet?

Update: Bella was adopted on December 18th! Fortunately, Bella is now safe at Nevada SPCA, in good hands until she finds a forever home. But this baby girl could easily have found herself in a danger situation when her previous owner peddled her off on one of those anonymous web sites where people give away or sell old furniture and other items. Horrified that she was being treated like property, a kind woman took her and brought her to us to be spayed and adopted into a loving home. We love this little doll!  She wiggles with joy and anticipation when she greets you. Bella is most likely a Poodle and Wheaton Terrier mix.  She is spayed and about 3-4 months of age.  She may grow to medium size. Bella loves playing with other friendly dogs.  She will need your patience and good guidance to complete housetraining.  Also, please plan on regular grooming care and careful puppy-proofing of your home and yard.

Can we cuddle with you by the fireplace?

Image
Ben & Jerry Update: Ben & Jerry were adopted on December 18th! Super cheery little troopers, these brothers carry sunshine and enthusiasm with them everywhere they go. Ben & Jerry are Shih Tzu mixes, neutered, just under two years of age, debuting for adoption today. As well as being brothers, they are soul-mates and they need to stay together forever. Ben & Jerry needed us because of their previous owner's financial hardship. The boys are good with cats and dogs and mature kids.  They are also reportedly housetrained and crate-trained. Please help them trim up a bit so that they are not so plump and please plan on quarterly professional grooming care for their soft, curly coats.

I am sensitive. Please be gentle and patient with me.

Image
Update: Vanilla Bean was adopted on December 18th! Vanilla Bean is a precious youngster, still a puppy at 9 months of age, who will do best in a quiet, stable home. Though shy with strangers, he is very loving and warm with those he knows and trusts. Vanilla Bean is reportedly a Malti-Poo (Maltese & Poodle mix).  He is a neutered boy, debuting for adoption today. He needed us because someone in his previous home was allergic to him. Vanilla Bean is great with friendly dogs and he is reportedly housetrained (with a doggie door), crate-trained, and fine with older children. Please puppy-proof your home for his safety and plan on regular professional grooming care for him.

I hope I melt your heart.

Update: Snowball was adopted on December 17th! Snowball is an angelic puppy who loves to snuggle. She craves reassurance, especially right now, confused about why she lost her previous home.  (She needed us because another dog was attacking her there.) Snowball is a gorgeous American Eskimo Dog, spayed girl, approximately 5 months of age, debuting for adoption today. She enjoys other sweet dogs and needs regular professional grooming care. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for Snowball's safety and protection.

I can light up your life like a firework!

Update: Rambo was adopted on December 17th! Bursting with the amazing combination of innocence and jubilation, this happy and handsome puppy is ready to share a lifetime of unconditional love and smiles with you. Rambo debuts for adoption today.  He is a German Shepherd, neutered boy, approximately 6 months of age. One of his most endearing behaviors is pawing at you to make certain you are giving him all of your attention. Rambo needed us when his previous owner moved into an apartment complex where he was not permitted. He is reportedly already housetrained, compatible with cats and dogs and older children, and he cherishes his daily walks. Please plan on basic obedience training for Rambo to help him channel his energy into good behavior.  German Shepherd knowledge and/or experience is strongly preferred for his adoption.

Will you commit to me forever, please?

Update: Wadley was adopted on December 18th! Wadley is mostly happy-go-lucky, but his eyes reveal a bit of anxiety about finding a new home. He is a young Yorkie-Poo (Yorkshire Terrier & Poodle mix), neutered boy, approximately 2 years of age, debuting today for adoption. Wadley needed us because his previous owner said she traveled too much to keep him. Besides enjoying other dogs, he is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and find with mature kids. Please plan on regular professional grooming care for Wadley and budget extra accordingly.

I am ready to be your Leading Man.

Bogie is a classic, with so many tremendous qualities, less hard-boiled than his namesake, but captivating in his own right. He is a dashing, fun Labrador Retriever, neutered male, about 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today. Bogie is loyal, reportedly housetrained, and good with dogs and older children.  (He reportedly gets very excited around people and may inadvertently knock down small children.) Please note he cannot be around cats. When you visit we encourage you to ask for Bogie by name so we can introduce you to him in the adoption courtyard.
