Trudy

Image
"I look up to you for compassion and safety." Trudy , an adventurous baby girl, enjoys pouncing on her mouse toys and playing hide & seek with people and cats.    She is a tuxedo kitten, 3 months of age and spayed, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA .    Trudy has been lovingly raised and socialized in a foster home since her rescue from homelessness.

Leomaris

Image
Leomaris ("Leo"), a winsome youngster with a stunning appearance, hopes for a stable and responsible lifelong home where he will be treasured as a family member.  Leomaris is a Lionhead bunny mix with deep blue eyes, 1 year of age, now neutered and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA .   He was found discarded in a residential neighborhood to fend for himself. (But domesticated rabbits completely depend on humans for survival and safety.)

Update on Rosie

Image
Many of you may recall Rosie , posted here on September 27 , pregnant and rescued from another shelter (that ran out of space). Rosie's foster parents sent us these two new pictures. Yesterday Rosie gave birth to 9 babies in the care and comfort of her foster home. They report she is doing well, very attentive to her babies, and so relieved that she has such a wonderful place to raise them. [Thank you to all who share posts to help Rosie and other animals needing foster homes and forever homes. We appreciate that you use social media for kindness.]

Parker

Image
Parker is adjusting well to life on three legs.    He is full of spirit and so grateful for the safety and comfort of the indoors, not to mention his daily big bowls of salad greens. Parker was found injured under a car in a grocery store parking lot. His hind leg could not be saved.    He is 2 years of age, now neutered and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Agatha, Jessie, Layla, and Mabel

Image
Agatha Jessie Layla Mabel 4 more of the rescued chinchillas -- Agatha , Jessie , Layla , and Mabel -- are ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.    All four girls are bashful, but enjoy people, approximately 8 years of age, and they are recovering well from neglect.    We are seeking responsible, loving forever homes for them where they will never again be exploited for breeding. They are social animals and most need to be adopted in pairs (of the same gender). However, we have a couple who need to go home as singles. More details on the 24 rescued Chinchillas. Information on chinchilla caretaking.

Spock & Kirk

Image
Spock & Kirk are baby brothers ready for a lifelong home where they will be safe and respected.  The boys are fawn rats, 2 months of age, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA in the Lovebugs Room.  We rescued them from another shelter that asked for our help when they were just two days old.  The boys are brilliant and entertaining. They love finding hidden treats and toys in their habitat, and they are bonding well with people who care for them.

Estelle and the benevolence of foster parents.

Image
Estelle , pregnant, and blind, was found today on a family's porch with no sign whatsoever of responsible ownership. As we were preparing to post Estelle's picture and ask for a foster hero, a remarkable foster mom named Ellen stepped forward to help her. Estelle will live with Ellen while she births and weans her babies, then mom and kittens will be spayed/neutered and ready for adoption in August. Even though Estelle is now safe and in a nurturing foster home, we wanted to share her story and thank again the inspiring and benevolent foster parents and other volunteers who dedicate so much of their hearts and time to fragile lives desperate for kindness.

Dorothy & Lorelei

Image
Dorothy Lorelei Lorelei Dorothy & Lorelei relish discovering hidden treasures -- treats and toys -- in their habitat. They seem to enjoy re-hiding them just as much for future fun. They are bonded, friendly, 7-month olds seeking a loving home where they can stay together forever. Dorothy is a Berkshire rat and Lorelei is a Fawn rat.    Please come meet and adopt them in the Lovebugs Room at Nevada SPCA.    The girls are part of a giant rescue of more than 50 rats we saved from another shelter after they were seized from an animal center last month.

Chen

Image
Chen lyrically says "pretty bird" as her most common call sound.  She is a Mikado pheasant and she is exceptional with birds and other animals. But Chen prefers people to keep their distance and not try to pick her up.  We want to find her an experienced home where she will be safe and respected and around birds and other animals for companionship.  She is ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued Chen from another shelter that asked for our help after she was seized from an animal center last week.

Jack and Jasper

Image
Jack Jasper Jack and Jasper are inquisitive young brothers who relish finding and hiding seeds, toys, and treats.  They are just 6 months of age, Golden hamsters, ready for adoption in the Lovebugs Room at Nevada SPCA.  Both are friendly with people and allow handling.  We rescued the boys (and 8 other hamsters and 55 more animals) from another shelter that asked for our help after they were seized from an animal center last week.  Please share the pictures of Jack and Jasper to help find them responsible, forever homes where they will be respected, appreciated, and cherished.

Before & After -- Trio of Goldfish

Image
Before After These three are now swimming in a clean, large 80-gallon tank with all of the food they want and more. The largest one is missing an eye, but they otherwise appear in fine health and peppy in spirit. A person was driving by a home and noticed the small tank in picture 1 beside a trashcan out on the curb, only a fifth of the way full of filthy water, with the three goldfish inside trying to survive. Please help find them a responsible home where they will be safe, respected, and comfortable for life, never to know suffering again. They are ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Why do some people hate gentle beings like me?

Image
Alexander The Great is a friendly, confident young rabbit now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA in our Lovebugs Room.  He is a handsome Lionhead mix, 18 months of age and now neutered.  Alexander The Great needed us because his previous owner said her grand-daughter's boyfriend was threatening to kill him.  Very sadly, this is not uncommon -- many of our rabbit rescues are from people with family members threatening to eat them, turn them loose, and otherwise harm them.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this very attractive portrait to help Alexander The Great find a stable, responsible, kind, loving, indoor-only, forever home.

I'm alive, at peace, and now safe, and that's what truly matters.

Georgia is an angel, a very gentle soul with heavenly kindness.  She is an apricot Shih-Tzu, spayed girl, about 7 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Georgia was at another shelter with her left eye injured beyond repair.  Her previous owner was reportedly found, but Georgia was never reclaimed.  Please help us find this serene girl the home she deserves where she will never be in danger again.  Georgia is great with other dogs and needs regular professional grooming.

Will you please keep me safe my entire natural life?

Spongebob is a baby rooster who loves everyone -- adults, kids, birds, pigs, dogs -- and he already has the confidence and self-esteem of a lion.  Last week schoolchildren on a tour of Nevada SPCA enjoyed petting him and feeding him seeds.  Spongebob needs a forever home where he will be safe, appreciated, and part of a social family.  Please ask for him by name at Nevada SPCA. He needed us when his previous owner did not want him or his baby sisters anymore.

Happy Halloween!

Update: Francine was adopted on November 18th! On behalf of Francine -- here showing off a festive costume -- and all of us at Nevada SPCA, we wish you and your loved ones a fun, safe Halloween. Friendly reminder: Please keep companion animals indoors, but away from the chocolates and candy and strangers who come to your door trick-or-treating. A suggestion: A baby gate (under $10 at major department stores) at your front door may help keep your animals from running out when children ring the bell, or keep them from lunging at kids yelling "Boo!" when you open the door. Let's take this opportunity to showcase Francine , who debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is an inquisitive, adorable Miniature Poodle, spayed female, about 4 years of age. We rescued her from another shelter that ran out of space to keep her. Francine delights in giving you sweet kisses and "sits pretty" to please you.   She is compatible with other friendly dogs. Pleas...

Please very carefully puppy-proof the home and yard for my safety.

Update: Hunter was adopted on February 16th! Hunter is a puppy with the wise, warm eyes of a senior. He is a Shih-Tzu, perhaps mixed with Lhasa Apso. He is neutered, about 8 months of age, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Hunter is very loving and has a calmer nature. He enjoys other dogs, especially gentle ones. Please budget extra for professional grooming care, at least quarterly, plus routine brushing at home each week. As a puppy, Hunter naturally needs to do plenty of chewing. We were alarmed by a report from his previous owner that he was drawn to chewing plants and wires, which is extraordinarily dangerous. Please take any and all reasonable steps to keep him from plants and wires for his protection. Ask for Hunter today at Nevada SPCA.

Please remember to take common sense steps to make Halloween safe for companion animals too.

On behalf of all of us at Nevada SPCA, we wish you a fun and enjoyable Halloween. Simple, common-sense precautions with your animals can make a life-or-death difference, so please remember to bring animals indoors during the festivities, keep them away from chocolates and other candies, and restrain them from the activities at the front door. The latter may be particularly important to reduce the chances that your companion animal may nip at a costumed stranger or escape onto the streets. Nevada SPCA will be open on Halloween day with regular adoption hours from 11am-5pm.

Best wishes for a wonderful, safe Fourth of July for your whole family.

Please remember to take common sense steps to keep your companion animals protected this holiday. Each year at this time, countless animals traumatized by the sounds, smells, and sights of fireworks are lost, injured, or killed as they try to escape what must seem like the end of the world to many of them. Foremost, please keep your animals securely indoors during the fireworks displays, ideally in a well-lit room with the blinds/curtains closed, along with TV or radio noise. If they become anxious from what they hear happening outside, please calm and soothe them (without drama) rather than scold or discipline them. It is astounding how many people still take animals to fireworks ceremonies. Please warn and strongly discourage your friends and family and others from doing this. It could even be grounds for abuse or neglect charges. Two final precautions: 1) Remember that fireworks displays and ceremonies often continue past the Fourth Of July, so extra vigilance and caution is neede...
