Heathcliff

Image
Heathcliff loves to nurture other big dogs. He envelops them with his arms in a giant hug and licks their faces and necks to soothe them. Other dogs mean the world to Heathcliff . His experiences with humans have included fear and violence. He was at another shelter this spring that asked for our help because he was so afraid of people. Now, four months later, thanks to the dedication of staff and volunteers, Heathcliff realizes people can be kind. He desperately wants to know that you are happy with him.    Heathcliff is a Rottweiler & Shepherd mix, 4 years of age and neutered, triumphantly debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA .

Tonya

Image
Depression fades and hope surges.    Within a few minutes of being around people she knows accepts her, Tonya begins to shine and relax. Tonya i s desperate for kindness and needs someone to love.    She is a medium-size, unique blend of breeds (including Queensland Heeler & Shepherd), 4 years of age and spayed, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA .    We rescued Tonya from another shelter that ran out of space for her.

Pete

Image
Look whose eyes are now full of such hope! Pete is progressing beautifully, physically and emotionally. He no longer hangs his head in fear and overflows with joy when volunteers and staff take him out of his kennel for walks or playtime.    Pete is a young Mini Bully mix, 1 year of age and neutered, awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA . Please give him consideration.    Thank you to everyone who has helped him believe in human kindness.

Reese

Image
Reese is blooming and making good progress.  He still fears human hands, but if you kneel down he now jumps into your lap and looks up into your eyes with hope.  Reese is a petite Chihuahua, 4 years of age and neutered, housetrained, good with other dogs, and awaiting a hero adoption at Nevada SPCA .  Please give Reese consideration if you have an adult-only home.

Cosmo

Image
Cosmo beams when you tell him it's time to go for a walk.    He is reportedly a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel & Shih-Tzu mix, 6 years of age and neutered, good with other dogs, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA . Cosmo is improving emotionally every day. He is recovering from cruelty and worries that strangers intend to harm him. An experienced, adult-only home is needed for his continuing progress so he can reach his full loving potential.

Greg

Image
Look who is no longer "Grumpy Greg "! His endearing nickname is no longer accurate, thanks to countless hours of loving care from staff and volunteers who proved to him that humans can be trusted. Greg , 9 years of age, wiggles in joy when he hears your praise and sees your smiles. He is a Chihuahua, neutered and awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA .    Greg is great with other dogs too.    Please give him consideration!

Blueberry

Image
Blueberry is recovering from emotional trauma and accepting the kindness of his caretakers. He wants to believe in people again. A woman witnessed Blueberry being thrown out of a car. Fortunately, he survived without severe physical injuries, but nonetheless intensely felt the pain of rejection and cruelty.    Blueberry is a small Terrier mix, 1 year young, good with other dogs, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA .    Please share his pictures and help him find a home where he will always know he is dearly treasured and always safe.

Mystere

Image
Mystere , drawn to gentle people, wants to know what a life rich in love and kindness feels like.  He is a small Heinz 57 with Havanese, 6 years of age, neutered boy, good with other dogs, now debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA .  Mystere was at another shelter that asked for our help due to his fear of strangers touching his body. We do not know what he endured in a previous home, but suspect abuse, so an experienced home is needed for his continuing emotional healing and development.

Before & After -- Tia

Image
Tia, February 25 Tia, February 25 Tia, emaciated on January 9 From 57 pounds to 80 pounds in 6 weeks, thanks to premium probiotic food and loving care, Tia triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA ! Tia is a young Mastiff mix making a remarkable recovery from starvation and cruelty. (She was at another shelter that asked for our help with her advanced care needs.) Tia is 2 years of age and spayed. Her ears were crudely maimed and cut off unevenly. She is healing emotionally too. At the time of rescue she hid from people in the back of her kennel. Now, she greets her caretakers with wagging tail and barks at them if they forget to tell her how sweet she is when they walk by.

Knight

Image
Knight is steadily building courage and self-esteem, and he's on his way toward reaching his loving potential.  Of the 33 dogs confiscated from squalor and horrors, he was in the most emotional distress and panicked whenever he was the focus of attention. Knight has now begun crawling in our laps, walking short distances on leash, and accepting care and kindness without freezing in fear. He is 3 years of age, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Please help find a hero with dog behavior and training skills who can guide him to continued improvement toward becoming a well-adjusted boy. More details on the 33 rescued dogs .

Tinkerbell

Image
Tinkerbell has made breathtaking progress in 30 days, thanks in large part to the triathlon coach, Cyndee, who volunteers and focuses on dogs needing socialization. Tinkerbell , a young, gorgeous medium-size (36 pounds) Shepherd mix is now ready for a special needs adoption at Nevada SPCA. Tinkerbell is 1 of 7 dogs confiscated from a breeder in horrific conditions. The 7 remained with authorities for more than 18 months while their previous owner awaited trial. Upon her conviction for animal cruelty, the 7 dogs were released to Nevada SPCA for rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption. Of the 7, Tinkerbell was in the most dire emotional state. (The other 6 are already available for adoption.) On a leash, she was waltzing sideways, too panicked to walk forward. We immediately took her to the courtyard to run and jump, but she instead crawled into a corner and froze there, afraid of all the open space. Cyndee and our staff gently gained Tinkerbell'...

Winnie

Image
Winnie with Lara, one of her caretakers. "Diamonds taking shape" -- the 33 dogs confiscated from squalor continue blooming with kindness and reassurance.    Winnie is the 8th of the 33 now ready to begin a new life and she debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA (www.nevadaspca.org). More of Winnie's siblings and cousins will be ready too in the days and weeks to come, based on their emotional healing and improvements, and spay/neuter surgeries and recoveries. Winnie is sweet to hear that you are happy with her. She'll kiss you if you tell her she is wonderful and improving beautifully!    Winnie is medium-size (25 pounds), 5 years of age and spayed, a blend of Whippet, Beagle & Mini Bully, and good with dogs her size and larger. Please help find a hero for Winnie . She needs to only see the best of human nature from now on. More details about what the 33 dogs endured .

Cecilia

Image
Cecilia , a sensitive girl with tremendous loving potential, closely watches people to see if they intend her harm. Her trust was betrayed by cruelty in her previous home. She just doesn't want to be devastated again. Cecilia is a young Shar Pei, 3 years of age and spayed, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She feels most confident around other dogs, so we strongly prefer adopting her to a home where she will have a big sister or brother dog for comfort and guidance. Cecilia was at another shelter that asked for our help. Please help find her a gentle hero for life.

Emperor

Image
Emperor was witnessed being pushed out of a moving car. He had soft tissue injuries, but fortunately did not have any broken bones. However, his heart was shattered and he was in horrendous physical condition and terrified of people. Weeks later, Emperor's wounds have healed. He is accepting kindness and slowly improving with trust. He sits perfectly still while you pet him and talk to him, perhaps worried that if he does the wrong thing he will cause anger and rage. We can only imagine what he endured. Emperor's emotional healing will take much longer and he needs a hero. He is a Chow Chow, 5 years of age, now neutered and ready for a special needs adoption at Nevada SPCA. He cannot walk on a leash -- we carry him from place to place -- but he stands and walks on his own when another large dog is around him for comfort. We believe Emperor will continue adjusting best in a home with a big sister or brother dog.

Before & After -- Virtue

Image
Virtue, now healing. Virtue, day of rescue. Virtue is now shaved down, eating premium food, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccines. Emotionally though, her healing will take much, much longer.    In addition to the extreme neglect, Virtue reportedly witnessed horrors that have traumatized her and resulted in a deep fear of people. Virtue is a Maltese & Toy Poodle mix, 8 years of age, and debuting for a hero adoption today at Nevada SPCA.    She is compatible with cats and dogs (and we believe she is likely to adjust best in a home with a big sister or brother dog).    When very fearful, she is nippy, so an experienced, adult-only home is essential for her continued progress.

Cosette

Image
Cosette was at another shelter that asked for our help.  She was in medical distress with suspected seizures.  We rescued Cosette and hospitalized her at a veterinary clinic that determined she was likely poisoned or otherwise ingested toxins.  She has recovered very well, and during the past two weeks she has been monitored with no signs of seizures or neurological problems.  But Cosette's emotional healing from abuse will take longer.  She is building self-esteem and realizing that she is safe from violence.  Cosette has enormous loving potential.  She is a beautiful Terrier mix, 1 year young, spayed, and ready for a hero to adopt her at Nevada SPCA.

I believe it's safe to be hopeful again.

Image
Lola is a young Boxer mix with a beautiful spirit.  Six weeks ago she was at another shelter, distraught, and afraid of people.  Lola is now shining and confident, eager to begin her new life.  She is 3 years of age, spayed, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  These wonderful portraits of Lola are courtesy of the caring people at Pet'ographique .

I have learned that most people are kind and wish me well.

We're celebrating Troy's wonderful emotional healing with these brand new portraits courtesy of Pet'ographique . Troy is an outgoing youngster who likes to play ball, and he is compatible with dogs and older kids, plus housetrained too.  He is a unique blend of breeds, perhaps including Beagle & Chihuahua, 2 years young, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  At the time of rescue he was very wary of men, but Troy has learned that most people are kind and happy to see him.

Trixie

Image
Trixie is a beautiful young girl with enormous loving potential.  She was at another shelter that asked for our help because she was very frightened.  Trixie is worried that strangers will hurt her again -- it's clear she has been the victim of cruelty -- but once she trusts you she glows and shines!  Trixie is medium-size, just 38 pounds, 1 year young, spayed, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Her wavy coat, stature, and body shape more resemble a small Golden Retriever than a Chocolate Labrador.

Don't let anyone hurt me ever again.

Image
Chantal is on a long, slow journey of emotional healing from severe abuse and neglect. She has seen the worst of human nature and she's terrified she will experience terror and harm again. Chantal is a darling Yorkshire Terrier mix, about 6 years of age, a spayed girl, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. When fearful, she can reportedly be nippy, so an experienced, adult-only home is needed for her continued progress and blooming. We believe a big sister or big brother dog may help her tremendously with adjusting.
