Nevada SPCA Animal Rescue

Westchester does not want to be an "Easter bunny" unless his new owner commits to him for life so that he is in a loving home for each and every Easter season.  He is a super cute Dwarf & English Spot mix rabbit, neutered, 18 months young, ready for adoption in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.  This fun portrait is courtesy of the wonderful people at Pet'ographique .  Westchester excels at playing and running in bunny tunnels and mazes. At the time of rescue, Westchester was roaming and starving around an apartment complex.

Oxford Thames These two lavender baby rabbits ("kits") were raised in a loving foster home and exposed to gentle cats and dogs. They both are wonderful with handling and adore people. They are Dwarf & Harlequin mixes, now 6 months of age.  Thames is a spayed girl and Oxford is a neutered boy. They would love to remain together for lifelong companionship.

Countless innocent animals, like Scarlet , get kicked out of families in order to punish children.  It is a common problem with tragic implications. Caring for animals and making them members of the family, instead of using them as toys, is an adult responsibility. Having children sometimes assist in caretaking duties can be reasonable, but placing the entire responsibility on a minor surely is unconscionable. Then imagine the sense of failure and frustration the child feels when the animal is kicked out of the family.  Just as devastating, the kids are taught that animals are disposable and that they can be used as pawns in family squabbles. Scarlet is now ready for a proper, responsible home where her life will not be treated so recklessly.  She is a beautiful Dwarf & Marten mix rabbit, spayed girl, about 18 months young. Valentina, Clancy, and Fawn These adorable little heartbreakers are full of adolescent bunny energy and curiosity.  They are easy to handle, friendly thanks to socialization with our staff and volunteers. The siblings are Lionhead and Dwarf mix rabbits, spayed/neutered, about 6 months of age so they are still considered "kits" (baby bunnies).  Clancy is a boy and Valentina and Fawn are his sisters. The three LOVE being together.  We always find them cuddling close, bonding, concerned about one another.  We prefer seeing them adopted together as a trio .   But we are open to a pair going home as long as the third finds a home with another bunny who he or she can bond with too. At the time of rescue they were out on the streets, confused and lost, their mother probably killed trying to raise them outdoors.  From now on, an indoor-only lifestyle is essential. How can anyone resist this classy, noble, humble little boy? Williamsburg is a Dwarf mix rabbit, neutered, about one year young, ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He has a serene personality, but bouts of curiosity emerge, especially when he's given play-time in an X-pen or a Cottontail Cottage. Williamsburg gets overjoyed when he sees us coming with his daily greens & veggies and shredded wheat mid-day treats. We rescued Williamsburg from a government-funded shelter that ran out of space for him. Please visit the Lovebugs Room and ask to meet him by name.

Cheshire is an extraordinarily attractive youngster, all but a baby still at about 9 or 10 months of age. He reportedly had been let loose in a neighborhood, but had no idea how to survive on his own.  Hungry and lost, he scampered up to a nice woman in her backyard for food.  She picked him up and brought him to safety with us. Cheshire is a Harlequin and Dwarf mix rabbit, neutered male, ready for adoption today.  The outdoors are a fading memory now and he needs to spend the rest of his life safely indoors as a cherished member of a family. He adores gentle attention and affection, so please plan plenty of time daily for this social boy. His front teeth grow quickly and need regular trimming (a simple procedure at a veterinary clinic using localized anesthesia, about every 6 weeks or so). Update: Yvette was adopted on December 21st! Yvette is an adorably baby bunny ("kit") awaiting a loving, forever home. She is a Dwarf mix, spayed, approximately 7 months of age. Yvette has a gentle spirit and she is curious about her surroundings.  She likes tender affection and stretches upward to your hand for soft ear rubs. We rescued her from the streets, where she did not stand a chance to survive on her own.  The dangers outdoors to rabbits are immense, from starvation to predators (including coyotes and birds of prey) to vehicles. Zeppelin is a very social, fun-loving rabbit with a mousy appearance. He is quite unique, most likely a mixture of at least three bunny breeds: Holland Mini Lop, Dwarf, and Himalayan. Zeppelin is neutered, about one year young, and ready for adoption today. He needed us because his owner said a family member was allergic to him. Zeppelin is one of more than 60 rescued, spayed/neutered rabbits awaiting forever homes at Nevada SPCA. Please ask for this sweet, small boy by name.

Update: Seven Gables was adopted on December 8th! Tender care and genuine affection were alien concepts to this petite, young boy until his rescue a few weeks ago. Seven Gables was one of many bunnies who were trying to survive outdoors in filthy, neglected condition in a backyard. Besides compassion, he is now enjoying the spoils of life. He squeals daily in delight as he sees his daily salad arriving. He is also eating up Timothy hay with great enthusiasm. Seven Gables is an English Spot mix rabbit in dwarf size, approximately 10 months of age. We had him neutered, so he is now ready for adoption. Please only consider Seven Gables if you are willing and able to allow him to live safely indoors as a true member of the family. He has come a long way and we do not want him to ever experience neglect and loneliness again.

Of the more than 70 rescued, spayed/neutered rabbits for adoption at Nevada SPCA, approximately half are bonded pairs like Gustav & Natasha . Social animals, bunnies generally need and prefer the companionship of their own kind. Gustav , a Mini Rex neutered male, and Natasha , an English Spot & Dwarf mix spayed female, are approximately 18 months of age. We rescued them from another shelter. These two generally stay side-by-side, with faces close, most of the day. We honor the strong bonds like these and require them to be adopted together for lifelong companionship. Please ask for Gustav & Natasha by name at the Nevada SPCA front desk at the headquarters. Update: Pola was adopted on November 13th! Pola is a petite, adorable young girl ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She is a Netherlands Dwarf rabbit, spayed female, about 18 months of age. Outgoing and curious, Pola is a little pack of dynamite, bright-eyed and eager to explore. Pola's ideal new owner will have dwarf bunny experience, keep her always strictly indoors, and allow her to have daily roam time in safe rooms in the house (using baby gates or pens to keep her away from electrical cords). We rescued Pola from an owner who surrendered her without a reason. She is one of more than 70 rescued and spayed/neutered rabbits for adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Update: Redford was adopted on February 27th! Redford did not stand a chance fending for himself in a park. He is only a baby, and tame rabbits of all ages are virtually helpless prey to the coyotes, who are effectively lured into neighborhood parks because of people who ignorantly or cruelly abandon their bunnies outdoors. Redford is one of the very few domestic rabbits fortunate to survive outdoor abandonment. A kind person caught him and brought him to Nevada SPCA for care (he was approaching starvation). Redford is an exceptionally handsome Dwarf mix, about 7 months of age. He is now neutered and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. He craves affection and attention, but being picked up scares him. You can ask for Redford by name at Nevada SPCA. He is one of more than 70 spayed/neutered rabbits for adoption today. He needs and requires an indoor lifestyle where he is a loved member of the family.

Update: Napoleon was adopted on November 11th! Napoleon is an outgoing, cute young rabbit who we rescued from another shelter when he ran out of time there. He is a Netherlands Dwarf, neutered male, 10 months of age. He has a rich, handsome chocolate coat and almond-shaped eyes. Napoleon enjoys people and bonding, but like many of his breed, he gets anxious if handled too long. Napoleon is one of 70 spayed/neutered bunnies for adoption at Nevada SPCA. If you have a rabbit who wants a new brother or sister, please contact our staff and arrange a "bunny date" so that we can ensure your rabbit will get along well with the newest member of the family. Napoleon and all of the adoptable rabbits need indoor homes. They do not handle extreme heat and may perish outdoors in our desert climate.

Madeline reliably greets us with a hop and nuzzling affection when we first visit with her each day. She is an exotic beauty, perhaps a mixture of Himalayan, Dwarf, and Satin rabbit breeds. She is approximately two years young. Madeline is now spayed and ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She enjoys petting and she has a relatively outgoing nature, but being held makes her quite anxious. We believe this is because she was handled improperly in her previous home. Update: Tanner was adopted on August 18th! Tanner is one of the rabbits we caught a backyard breeder trying to sell before Easter. The conditions were horrendous for the bunnies. The parents had allegedly turned all of the care and cleaning over to a pre-teen child, giving her adult responsibilities which were completely inappropriate to delegate to such a young kid. With us, Tanner has been blooming beautifully. He is now a very social bunny and enjoys human contact. He also has impeccable litter box skills and likes to keep his living areas tidy. Tanner is a Dutch & Dwarf mix, approximately one year young. We had him neutered and he is now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. In our extreme desert climate in southern Nevada, indoor-only living is a necessity for domesticated rabbits. Veterinarians who specialize in bunny care emphasize that rabbits prefer cool temperatures and should never be subjected to heat beyond 85 or 90 degrees. Tanner is one of more than 70 spayed/ne...

Update: We now have 70 rabbits for adoption. Devyn & Daphne are still available. Devyn & Daphne, brother & sister, are two baby Dwarf mix bunnies. They are spayed/neutered and ready for adoption today. Please see Brandy or Yuri in our Rescued Rabbit & Guinea Pig Room for assistance. Rejected "Easter Bunnies" are coming to us on a daily basis already, and this tragic annual trend worsens in the summer season. We are now up to 50 rescued rabbits. Each need to live indoors with families who understand they are loving beings with feelings and needs, not toys or decorations or holiday gimmick gifts. If at all possible, remember to consider adopting a pair. Rabbits are social animals who usually thrive with a bonded mate.
