After Before Before Buttercup's rescue & recovery: This docile boy, 13 years of age and 24 pounds in weight, was suffering from some of the most severe matting on a feline that we have seen in years. His previous owners not only let him roam the neighborhood, but then left him behind when they moved away. Buttercup knew his caretakers wanted to help him and he held still and let them shave away years of accumulated knots and giants matted folds. Under all of this, his skin was in poor, flaky condition. With premium food and special skin oils, Buttercup's skin is improving significantly every day. Buttercup loves being held in gentle arms or cuddling up in cozy cat beds. Victoria, May 18 Victoria, June 6 Victoria is a precious young Maltese with a gentle soul and she debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. We decided to share one of her "before" pictures, after being found on the streets, in order to better tell her story. However, her condition was much more grave beyond just horrific neglect, with a massive wound on her left side (which is too graphic to post), from an unknown cause (suspected dog or coyote attack). Victoria has healed well, bonded with other sweet dogs here, and snuggled with staff and volunteers. Physically and emotionally, she is making a terrific recovery. She is 2 years of age, now spayed, and asking for a peaceful owner where she will always know she's cherished.

Virtue, now healing. Virtue, day of rescue. Virtue is now shaved down, eating premium food, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccines. Emotionally though, her healing will take much, much longer.    In addition to the extreme neglect, Virtue reportedly witnessed horrors that have traumatized her and resulted in a deep fear of people. Virtue is a Maltese & Toy Poodle mix, 8 years of age, and debuting for a hero adoption today at Nevada SPCA.    She is compatible with cats and dogs (and we believe she is likely to adjust best in a home with a big sister or brother dog).    When very fearful, she is nippy, so an experienced, adult-only home is essential for her continued progress.

Before After These three are now swimming in a clean, large 80-gallon tank with all of the food they want and more. The largest one is missing an eye, but they otherwise appear in fine health and peppy in spirit. A person was driving by a home and noticed the small tank in picture 1 beside a trashcan out on the curb, only a fifth of the way full of filthy water, with the three goldfish inside trying to survive. Please help find them a responsible home where they will be safe, respected, and comfortable for life, never to know suffering again. They are ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Gracie, June 12, the day of her rescue.  Gracie , who nearly perished from starvation, has bloomed into a volunteer favorite (they call her "baby hippo") who delights in playing with kids, splashing in wading pools, and leaning onto the people who cuddle her.    Today, Gracie triumphantly debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Gracie is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 5 years of age, spayed, and housetrained.    She was captured at a construction site months ago in such emaciated and dehydrated condition that we rushed her to a veterinary hospital for IV fluids for two days. Her veterinarian said she would not have survived another day on her own. Gracie's physical and emotional recovery was helped by time spent in a loving foster home. Danny is understandably reveling in being the center of attention.  A Shih-Tzu mix junior puppy who suffered from unconscionable neglect, he was never brushed or allowed indoors.  Danny is now neutered, eating premium food, and enjoying volunteers & staff and the dogs he is meeting here.  He is 10 months of age, eager to know what a loving home feels like, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Special thanks to Hair of the Dog Spa for his grooming transformation.

Gregory is a solemn, 13-year-old Maltese mix recovering from deplorable neglect.  At the time of rescue he was at another shelter that asked for our help due to his eye infections and foxtail infestation.  Gregory is steadily recovering weight and energy, but a very gentle home is what he needs.  He likes other dogs and may do best in a home with a calm sister or brother dog for companionship.  Special thanks to Hair of the Dog Spa for his grooming transformation.

Frisco, this morning, debuting for adoption. Frisco is an endearing little boy and so hopeful he will finally know what being loved feels like.  He is a Papillon & Maltese, 6 years of age, now neutered and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Frisco enjoys bonding with people and dogs.  Special thanks to Hair of the Dog Spa for his beautiful grooming.

Julia is a 5-pound sweetheart debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She is a Toy Poodle, 3 years young, good with other dogs, and now spayed.  This tiny girl was found on the streets with no sign of responsible ownership and in very neglected condition.  Thank you to Hair of the Dog Spa for Julia's beautiful grooming transformation. A gentle home environment with a leisurely lifestyle routine may be ideal for her.

Omar , after years of severe neglect, gets a fresh start at 13 years of age!  He is a gentle Shih-Tzu, neutered and good with other sweet dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Omar was at another shelter that asked for our help.  Special thanks to Hair of the Dog spa for shaving away years of filth & knots to give Omar a clean, tidy grooming that reveals his eyes.

He is a super cute Miniature Poodle, 10 years of age and neutered, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. At the time we rescued Lady from another shelter, her previous owner had neglected her so severely she could not see through the tangles and filth in front of her eyes.  Hair of the Dog spa groomed her and revealed her expressive eyes.  Lady's "after" picture is so powerful because you can see her full of hope.  Lady is a Poodle & Shih-Tzu mix, 9 years of age, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Dakota dances to win your attention and approval.  She is a precious Toy Poodle, 1 year young, now spayed and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Dakota enjoys other dogs.  At the time of rescue she startled a woman by walking into her office building in a commercial district, in deplorable condition, with no sign of responsible ownership.  Thank you very much to Hair of the Dog spa , which so beautifully cleaned and groomed her.  Please help us find a home where she will be treasured, never to know neglect again.

The power of a fresh start and knowing that someone believes in you.  When we rescued Baxter from another shelter he was terrified and it was clear he had endured years in a loveless, neglectful, and abusive home.  Baxter is a Shih-Tzu mix, 5 years of age and neutered, good with other dogs, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is still fearful of being hurt, but making progress emotionally every day.  Baxter needs a hero who will help him continue to improve and reach his full potential.  Grooming courtesy of the very kind people at Hair of the Dog spa .

Paul, October 7, the day of his rescue. Paul, October 16, his debut for adoption. Paul wants to know what being loved feels like.  He is a gentle Lhasa-Poo, 1 year of age, good with other dogs, and now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Paul was found near an apartment complex where he reportedly roamed and scrapped for food from anyone kind enough to help him.  Finally, a man captured him and brought him to safety with us.  Rather than being afraid, Paul eagerly accepted our help and volunteers began cleaning and feeding him immediately.  Please help Paul find a responsible home where he will be cherished and adored as a valuable member of the family.

Zeke, rescued from another shelter. Zeke, on the morning of his adoption debut. Zeke is a young sweetheart we rescued from another shelter.  Obviously from a loveless home, he is surprised that people actually care for him and want to pamper him.  Zeke is a cute blend of many small breeds, 2 years of age, a neutered boy, good with dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Special thanks to Kim, a dedicated volunteer, who arranged for his professional grooming yesterday.  Please help Zeke find a responsible, forever home where he will awaken to the joys of being treasured as a family member.

Tina Marie, rescued from another shelter. Tina Marie, debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Tina Marie is a precious, tiny lady whose eyes and spirit were hidden under long, scraggly hair.  We rescued her from another shelter.  Tina Marie is a Shih-Tzu, about 4 years of age, spayed, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She needs more socialization, due to what appears to be years of neglect, so an experienced and gentle home is needed.  Special thanks to Kim, a dedicated volunteer, who arranged for Tina Marie 's professional grooming yesterday.

Koko, on her debut adoption day, July 20 Koko, at the time of rescue Koko is a graceful, older girl with a very kind spirit and she is now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. She is a Chi-Weenie (Chihuahua & Dachshund mix), about 13 years of age and spayed.  Koko enjoys other sweet dogs and she adores gentle people. At the time of rescue she was found abandoned outside of a veterinary clinic with an enormous abdominal tumor. We had Koko's tumor and a small growth removed and she has healed well.  Please help find Koko a hero who will cherish her, and let her live with dignity and love during her twilight years.
