Huckleberry is a fun-loving, affectionate baby boy debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is a 6-month old puppy, a chocolate & white Bully mix with hazel eyes, and now neutered.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety. At the time of rescue Huckleberry was very sick with parvo, a potentially deadly disease, but after extensive medical care he has triumphantly made a full recovery! Carmela Update: Heroes stepped forward and all 16 are now in great care! It's not even noon yet, and we already have rescued 16 newborn kittens today, all of who need foster parents for loving, nurturing care. Carmela , a four-week old baby girl pictured here, and her three siblings, were found stuck in a wall. The other dozen newborns were rescued from previous owners or found motherless and in urgent need. Spring's gloom is lifting and it is wonderful to see her spirit reigniting with hope for her future. She is a calm-natured Shiba Inu mix, petite and spayed little lady, about 9 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She valiantly survived a horrendous ordeal.  Her previous owner was breeding her for puppies, but refused to take her to a veterinary hospital when there were severe complications during labor.  We rescued Spring and rushed her into a hospital for an emergency C-section to save her life. Spring is recovering well physically and emotionally, and her days of being a breeding machine are now, finally, over.

James Majesty These precious babies, brother James and sister Majesty , are tiny angels, both with loving and gentle natures. They are Chihuahuas, now 3 months of age, spayed/neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. We rescued their mother Lullaby, pictured below.  She was in labor and a deformed puppy inside of her had blocked her from giving birth.  Lullaby's previous owner was unable to provide medical care to save her life. We rushed Lullaby into a veterinary hospital for an emergency C-section.  The veterinarians were able to save mom (Lullaby) and two of her babies, who we named James and Majesty . Lullaby has since been spayed and adopted into a loving home.  Now its her puppies' turn to find owners who will cherish and adore them every day for the rest of their lives. Lullaby's beautifully expressive eyes reveal a young girl who is tender-hearted and sensitive, yearning to be loved for her own worth, not for her commercial value as a breeding machine.  She is a pretty Chihuahua, spayed, 2 years of age, good with people and dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Lullaby is incredibly fortunate to be alive.  Her previous owner bred her for puppies, but could not afford the emergency medical care she desperately needed when one of her babies got stuck during the birthing process.  We rescued her and rushed her into a veterinary hospital for an emergency Caesarean section, and 4 of her 5 babies survived and remain in foster care.

Update: Bravo was adopted on March 30th! Terribly ill with the deadly parvo virus at the time of rescue, little Bravo had the odds against his survival. We rushed him into emergency medical care at the Dewey Veterinary Hospital for intensive care. Besides great care, his strong spirit and will to live helped pull him through, and he made a full, triumphant recovery. Bravo is a vibrant puppy with expressive eyes and a whimsical nature. He is most likely a Bully mix and will grow to medium size. He is neutered, approximately 3-4 months of age, debuting for adoption today. Update: Trudi was adopted on January 23rd! A baby herself, Trudi should have never been having babies. Her story helps exemplify the absolute importance of spay/neuter of companion animals. Her previous owner called us in a horrible panic. Trudi was trying to give birth to her puppies but one of them was dead and stuck halfway outside of her. Her previous owner could not (or would not, we don't know) provide the emergency care needed, so we rescued her and rushed her into surgery at a veterinary hospital. A C-section was performed. Trudi's other puppy died very shortly afterwards, despite exhaustive efforts to save him. The surgery though did save Trudi . She has had time to recover and be spayed, and she now debuts for adoption today. Trudi is a Teacup Chihuahua, barely a year of age. She is fine with other sweet, gentle dogs and she loves to be held and reassured. This petite angel needs and deserves a responsible owner who will commit to her for her entire lifetime.

This precious little jewel, Josie , arrived to us for rescue in a state of emergency with a large open wound on her abdomen, and she seemed to be in a state of shock. A giant mammary tumor had burst open. We rushed her into medical care and then to a specialist who performed the complicated surgery to remove the tumor. After healing for a few weeks, she made a good recovery and today debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Throughout this trauma, Josie remained trusting and even-tempered. Her loving nature glows. Josie is a young Chihuahua, approximately 8 years of age. She is housetrained and compatible with mature children and other sweet dogs. She would be best in a quieter, gentle home, where she is showered with affection. The lesson that every day is a blessing is especially real for Josie. Update: Regina McPoodle was adopted on August 15th! Regina McPoodle came to us needing emergency care after being found crying and limping in the street. She was in very poor condition, on all levels, and she was in terrible pain. We rushed her into intensive care and x-rays revealed that she had both a broken back leg and a broken pelvis. Her veterinarian believed the injuries were the result of being struck by or thrown from a car. One of our volunteers and supporters very generously offered to take her to a specialty center to try and save her leg and repair her pelvis. The operations were successful and Regina McPoodle can walk again. Today is very special -- she debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Regina McPoodle has a gentle, loving nature. We believe she will do best in a calmer home. She is a Toy Poodle, spayed, approximately 2 years young. Please budget extra for regular grooming so that she never again experiences neglect.

Update: Bones was adopted on June 29th! Bones is a tiny, adorable Chihuahua mix puppy, neutered male, approximately 5 months of age. Today, he debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA. We rescued him from an owner who refused medical treatment for him at a local veterinary hospital. He had contracted the parvo virus, which if left untreated, would have certainly resulted in his death. The hospital contacted us for help and we had him rushed into emergency care. After extensive treatment, he made a full recovery. Thanks to those of you who donate money to support animal rescue, Bones' life was saved. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and compassion. Update: Jeb was adopted on August 27th! God only knows how many years this sweet old boy went without loving care. We rescued Jeb ( and another dog we named Ellie ) from the back of an open pick-up truck on a scorching hot 100+ degree day. He was dehydrated, pacing in severe distress, and bleeding from the tops of his ears (where fly bites over time had opened flesh wounds). We were very concerned Jeb and Ellie were in heat stroke, so both were rushed into emergency medical care at the Dewey Veterinary Hospital. Both survived and are showing great improvements. Jeb debuts for adoption today and we expect Ellie to be available later this week. Jeb has a personality that shines. He is a medium-sized Shepherd mix, neutered male, approximately 10 years of age. Let's be sure that he never, ever, experiences a day where he feels unloved again.

Update: Kristian was adopted on May 30th! Kristian needed rescue when his owner refused emergency medical care for him when he contracted the deadly parvo virus. Nevada SPCA had this care provided for him, and it was extensive, and he made a full recovery. Kristian is one of 17 puppies in May alone who needed our rescue when their owners refused emergency medical care for them at local veterinary clinics. Thanks to donations from caring people like you, we have been able to save their lives. Kristian is a playful puppy with a dynamic personality. He is a Bully and Retriever mix who we expect to grow to medium size. He is good with other dogs. Kristian debuts in Adoptions today at Nevada SPCA. Our greatest need is for gentle, caring foster parents to help with newborn kittens, as well as feline moms and their litters. We're finding kittens in the streets, in parks, abandoned and sometimes injured, and not uncommonly, even found thrown away like trash in dumpsters. Delicately grasping at life, they need the tender loving care of a home environment, rather than a shelter environment, until they are old enough or well enough for spaying/neutering and other preparations for adoption into lifelong homes. Setting aside a bedroom or bathroom in your home temporarily can begin to make the difference of life and death for these animals in emergency need.
