Baxter -- Before & After

Image
The power of a fresh start and knowing that someone believes in you.  When we rescued Baxter from another shelter he was terrified and it was clear he had endured years in a loveless, neglectful, and abusive home.  Baxter is a Shih-Tzu mix, 5 years of age and neutered, good with other dogs, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is still fearful of being hurt, but making progress emotionally every day.  Baxter needs a hero who will help him continue to improve and reach his full potential.  Grooming courtesy of the very kind people at Hair of the Dog spa .

Tuscany

Image
Tuscany , a sensitive puppy, is no longer in peril, but he doesn't yet realize that he is safe.  He is still shaking until we hold him and reassure him.  Tuscany was at another shelter that asked for our help due to his abusive past.  He has tremendous loving potential and needs a gentle hero to show him that humans are capable of incredible kindness.  Tuscany is a small, 21-pound, unique blend of many breeds with tiger/brindle coloring and teddy bear-like good looks.  He is 6 months of age, neutered, good with dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Sugar -- Before & After

Image
Sugar's fresh start is beginning at 13 years of age.  She is a cheerful Poodle, spayed, good with other dogs, housetrained, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Sugar has diminished vision and hearing, or as we'd rather say, she still has some sight and she can hear some sounds.  At the time of rescue she was reportedly being taken to a veterinary clinic to be euthanized.  Sugar's spectacular grooming is courtesy of the caring people at Hair of the Dog spa and they gave her green ribbons and polish in tribute to St. Patrick's Day.  Please share this post to help find a hero for Sugar .

Ringo needs a hero.

Image
Ringo is an angelic baby boy, 5 months of age, now neutered and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. At the time of rescue Ringo was about 8 weeks of age and a person found him on freeway, wounded and in shock, believed to have just been thrown out of a moving vehicle. Ringo has healed beautifully, thanks to veterinary care and foster care.  But his neurological damage from the incident affects his balance and results in him being unable to jump. Ringo scoots and crawls, surprisingly well, and likes to snuggle against you and lick your hand while you're petting him.

Lina

Image
Lina , successfully completing a 7-month rehabilitation, triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA!  She is a charming Dachshund mix and when she is excited she hops her front legs in small jumps of joy.  Lina is a Dachshund mix, 9 years of age and spayed, good with other dogs, and housetrained.  At the time of rescue she was wounded (unknown cause) and nearly completely hairless from severe skin allergies.  Since then Lina has healed well and on a special diet (fish) she has thrived and regrown most of her hair.  Please come meet this valiant little lady!

Rascal -- Before & After

Image
Morning of his debut for adoption Before his groom at Hair of the Dog spa After his groom at Hair of the Dog spa We commend the creativity of Hair of the Dog spa , who decided on a lamb-like haircut to save as much of Rascal's coat as possible.  The results are amazing and Rascal feels so much better.  Rascal is a Bichon Frise, 5 years of age, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is housetrained, good with other dogs, and spirited in personality (too fussy and irritable to be around young kids).  We also had dental care provided for Rascal that included cleaning and 14 teeth extractions.  Please help Rascal find a wonderful home where he will never be neglected again.

Mariposa and Monarch

Image
Mariposa Monarch Mariposa and Monarch , very playful baby brothers, surprised us with their subdued expressions during pictures this morning.  As soon as they were back in their kennel, they were back at full speed with playtime!  Both boys are affectionate and love attention.  They are Bully mix puppies, 3 months of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Their names are inspired by their mother, named Butterfly , who gave birth one hour after being rescued from the streets.  ( Butterfly debuts for adoption on Monday.)   Mariposa and Monarch can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting the boys together for lifelong companionship. Butterfly, with newborn Monarch, shortly after her rescue

Atom & Reesey

Image
Our staff member was very touched by the reactions of Atom and Reesey when they were reunited.  They were at another shelter, but in separate kennels.  While being loaded with numerous other rescued dogs into crates in the back of an SUV for transport to Nevada SPCA, Atom spotted Reesey and elatedly wiggled his whole body and cried out to her.  Needless to say, they've been attached at each other's side ever since.  These soul-mates debut for adoption tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10am.  Atom is 3 years of age, a neutered boy.  Reesey is 5 years of age, a spayed girl.  Please help us find them a stable, loving home where they can remain together forever.

Hailey & Valentina

Image
Hailey, picture 1 Hailey, picture 2 Valentina, picture 1 Valentina, picture 2 These cheerful junior puppies, Hailey & Valentina , were found running the streets with no sign of responsible ownership (no ID tags, no microchip IDs, not spayed).  We believe they are sisters, a blend of Shiba Inu & Siberian Husky, 8 months of age, now spayed and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. The girls are terrific together, but need to be fed separately to reduce quarreling over food.  Though still puppies, our strong preference is to adopt them together for lifelong companionship.

Vanilla Bean

Image
Please help find a hero for Vanilla Bean .  She was in perilous, emaciated condition at the time of rescue.  Since then her veterinarian determined she has hyperthyroidism (a glandular disorder) and on a special diet over the months she has regained some weight and energy.  Vanilla Bean now feels adventurous enough to roam the central corridor that houses the cat condo playrooms, meeting every visitor who wants to say hello to her.  Vanilla Bean is a snow-white medium-hair, about 6 years of age and spayed, awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Tomas

Image
Tomas is almost 14 years of age, but he's so youthful in temperament that he still has the smile of a puppy.  Please help us find him a hero.  Tomas would have been adopted long ago, but he is blind in his right eye (old injury) and grumpy about being touched unexpectedly on his blind side.  Tomas is a tri-color Jack Russell Terrier, neutered, crate-trained, compatible with cats and dogs, and he's awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for showcasing Tomas in these brand new portraits.

Lumiere

Image
Lumiere is getting a fresh start at 12 years of age.  We love the wise and contented look in his eyes, knowing that his fortunes have so dramatically improved.  Lumiere is a Bichon Frise & Poodle mix, a neutered boy, good with other dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  At the time of rescue he was unrecognizable at another shelter (named Snowball) and suffering from extreme matting/neglect and dental decay.  Now cleaned, groomed (with special thanks to Hair of the Dog spa), eating premium food, and healing well from his dental operation, Lumiere is ready to complete his transformation by becoming a cherished member of a loving family.

Ariel

Image
Ariel glows with joy and hope and she triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued this angel in December.  She was at another shelter that asked for our help due to the severe ulceration of her nose.  Since then we have had extensive care provided for Ariel and she is now on daily medication to diminish chronic skin inflammation (DLE) and needs a primarily-indoor lifestyle where she spends most of her time out of direct sunlight.  Ariel is a beautiful blend of Australian Shepherd and Border Collie, 8 years of age and spayed.  She adores people and she is compatible with some dogs.  Please share Ariel's picture to help find her a hero.

Miss Marvel

Image
Miss Marvel , a miraculous survivor, was witnessed being run over by two cars.  Veterinarians were able to save her life, but not her crushed front right leg.  Miss Marvel has adjusted well to life on three legs and not only moves easily, but likes to stand on her hind legs while she rubs against you, asking you to pick her up.  Miss Marvel is a petite and slender blue & cream & white (dilute calico) shorthair, 1 year of age, spayed girl, great with other cats, triumphantly ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Please help us this angel a wonderful, lifelong, indoor-only home where she will be cherished.

Melvin

Image
When Melvin finds someone he trusts not to hurt him, he leans against them and never wants to leave their side.  Melvin is so terrified of being struck that it breaks our hearts, but we know his blooming has already begun and that this young boy will soon know a lifetime of joy and peace.  Melvin is a cream & white Smooth Collie & Retriever mix, 2 years of age and neutered, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued him from another shelter.  A big sister or brother dog may be ideal to help Melvin adjust and heal from his violent, cruel past.  Please share his pictures to help find him a hero.

The Sugarplum Trio

Image
Please help find a terrific, lifelong home for The Sugarplum Trio .  They are awaiting adoption in the Lovebugs Room at Nevada SPCA. Baby Turtledove , a 6-month old baby, has been raised by both her mother ( Partridge ) and aunt ( Sugarplum ).  The three girls love being together and need to remain a family unit forever.  (Guinea pigs are very social animals and much of their happiness comes from their social relationships.)  The girls range in age from 6 months to 4 years.  They needed us because of their previous owner's travel schedule.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these beautiful new portraits.

Matilda

Image
Matilda needs someone to love.  You may remember her from a few months ago when she was found pregnant on the streets and then gave birth to 11 babies just hours after being placed in a nurturing foster home.  Matilda raised her puppies and then was adopted by her foster family, but she was returned for scuffling with the family's other dog.  Matilda is a lovely Bully mix, 3 years young, spayed, housetrained & crate-trained, and awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA. She bonds well with older kids, but gets too anxious to be around toddlers or young children.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these wonderful new portraits to help Matilda .
