I am beginning to understand that I am not worthless.

A kind man unexpectedly found this attractive young boy abandoned in the desert and told us he felt fortunate that he had found the pup before the coyotes did.

We named him Nova and he is a medium-size Heinz 57 with Shepherd or Cattle Dog, 1 year of age, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Nova so wants to bond with people, but he is wary of strangers.  In a stable home he will build self-esteem and confidence.

Please share Nova's picture to help him get adopted by someone wonderful and loving.

I don't understand why they threw me away.

Mai Tai is an enchanting, calm-natured young girl ready to find a loving, forever, indoor-only home.

She is a gorgeous Lionhead rabbit, 2 years of age, now spayed and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

At the time of rescue Mai Tai had been abandoned in a park, perhaps yet another "Easter bunny" discarded when the holiday novelty wore off.

But domesticated bunnies need humans to survive.

Special thanks to Pet'ographique for capturing Mai Tai's very sweet spirit in these portraits.

Before & after pictures of Blossom, a young Maltese debuting for adoption.

Blossom, debuting for adoption on July 31

Blossom, minutes after her rescue on July 27
A man found this petite, horrifically matted dog in Las Vegas near the I-95 freeway.  He assumed she was diseased, could barely tell her back from her front, and brought her to us for emergency care.

Not only did her knotted coat block her eyesight, but she had similar obstacles to eating and going to the bathroom.  It would have been difficult for her to have survived much longer.

One of our volunteers, Marlene, scooped her up and held her close despite all of the dirt and insects, and told her "You are safe now" and "Blossom is your new name".

Now spayed and groomed, Blossom is a tiny, adorable angel, unrecognizable from the day of her rescue.  She is a Maltese, 2 years of age, triumphantly debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Blossom loves being held and reassured.  She soaks up all of the compliments and affection, and then asks for much more.

She is good with other dogs and needs regular professional grooming so that she keeps feeling her best.

Please help us find Blossom a home where she is never again failed.  She will need patience and kind guidance to learn to adjust to living predominantly indoors, including housetraining.

Other dogs rescued this summer were similarly suffering from extreme neglect, including Darian, Flora, and Marie & Mark.

Marlene & Berlin, baby sister guinea pigs ready for adoption.

Marlene & Berlin are baby sisters now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA in the Lovebugs Room.

The girls are American breed guinea pigs, about 8 months of age, and so strongly bonded that they need to remain together forever.

Marlene & Berlin need more socialization, so an experienced home is needed.  The girls have enormous loving potential.

They needed us when their previous owner moved overseas.

Rock 'n Roll, a majestic German Shepherd debuting for adoption.

Rock 'n Roll is 101 pounds of majesty.

He's a very friendly, happy, and intelligent German Shepherd debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Rock 'n Roll is approximately 5 years of age, a neutered boy, and his personality shines.  German Shepherd knowledge is needed for his adoption.

Rock 'n Roll was at another shelter that asked for our help and his background before that is unknown.

Please ask for Rock 'n Roll by name when you visit.

The evolution of a smile -- 4 faces of Thor.

Thor, 9:45am, "Am I going to be okay?  Is anyone going to hurt me?"

Thor, 9:48am, "You're taking my picture and a smile will help me find a loving home?"

Thor, 9:49am, "How's this?"

Thor, 9:50am, "Here's my biggest smile!"
We want to share with you the awakening of a spirit -- Thor's spirit -- in just the five minutes he spent with us getting his portrait this morning.

Thor needed us when his previous owner went into hospice and passed away.

Thor is a snow-white American Bulldog mix, about 4 years of age, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

His world has been turned upside-down and he's no longer sure where he belongs.  That overwhelming feeling of being lost, adrift from where he expected to be, is almost universal with rescued animals.  One of our most important roles at Nevada SPCA is assuring Thor and others they are indeed safe and can begin to hope.

Thor is reportedly housetrained.  He is shy with new people, so an experienced and very stable home environment is best for him.

Please ask for Thor by name when you visit Nevada SPCA.

The British Puppies debut for adoption today!

These five babies were rescued when just weeks old and motherless, and they needed nurturing care to survive.

We placed them in a loving foster home to be raised and socialized.

They are now 3 months of age, spayed/neutered, and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  There are three sisters (Abbey, Bristol, and Lisburn) and two brothers (Nottingham and Oxford).  We nicknamed them "The British Puppies" based on their cute English names.

We believe they are Dachshund mixes and likely to remain small.  All five love to be pampered and get fussy if denied what they want.

Please consider adopting a pair for lifelong companionship.  Also, please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety.

Camille, a baby angel rescued from a sewer.

A Nevada SPCA volunteer named Annie heard the cries of a distressed, hungry kitten coming from a sewer along a Las Vegas street.  She and her boyfriend went down the ladder into the sewer, and after some time, were able to capture  the baby.

Camille is now 3 months of age, spayed, and triumphantly debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is an adorable Marbled Tabby and she loves belly rubs.  Camille belongs in the safety of the great indoors, loved and cherished, for the rest of her life.

They forgot about me and hurt me. But I hoped they would return to save me.

Vera had been left behind in an abandoned house for an unknown period of time without food or water.  A neighbor discovered she was inside and was able to gain access and rescue her.

Vera is elated now to be in the comfort of air-condition and eating regularly-scheduled meals and treats.

She is a beautiful cream tabby with a ringed tail and golden eyes, 1 year young, now spayed and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this compelling portait to help Vera find a loving, forever home.

Can we share our happiness with you?

Remi & Sprocket are a gleeful, adorable pair debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Remi is a Cairn Terrier, about 3 years young.  Sprocket is a Yorkshire Terrier, about 7 years of age.

Both boys are neutered, good with other dogs and reportedly crate-trained.

Remi & Sprocket are very strongly bonded and need to remain together forever.

They needed us because a child in their previous home was allergic to them.

Please ask for Remi & Sprocket by name when you visit.

I want to be your soul-mate.

Ryder is a hearty young boy with incredible intelligence and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

He is an especially handsome Australian Cattle Dog, 2 years of age, neutered, housetrained, and reportedly fine with cats and older kids.

Ryder likes most dogs, but his previous owner said he is afraid of dogs with Bully-like appearances because a Bully breed dog once "bit his leg off".

Ryder does not have a front left leg, but he is still very agile moves around extremely well on three legs.

Please ask for Ryder by name when you visit.

I can't see you, so your soft touch and words mean the world to me.

Bella can't see you, but when you touch her and speak sweetly her face lights up and she shuffles close to you for cuddling.

She is eager to please and will even walk beside you on leash, gingerly, trusting that you will take caution to keep her from running into walls and other dangers.

If you have stairs or a pool, please be sure access is gated for her safety.

Bella is an affectionate Labrador Retriever, almost 9 years of age, a spayed girl, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

We rescued her from another shelter.

Please help us find a hero for Bella.

Dazzler & Derby are now in a loving home!

Tears of joy with this update! At long last, Dazzler & Derby have been adopted!! They both had huge, beaming smiles this afternoon as they were being adopted to an incredible couple. We already have an update that the two are loving their new large home and yard.

Deepest thanks to Orelle and our other volunteers who share our never-give-up attitude. They have worked hundreds of hours to successfully socialize these two. (Orelle spent an hour per day with Dazzler & Derby this past winter and spring before returning to England for the summer.)

At the time we rescued Dazzler & Derby from another shelter, they were nearly feral (undomesticated), severely neglected and terrified of people.

Special thanks also to Pet'ographique for this remarkable portrait.

You will be the apple of my eye.

Please come meet Magnolia, a gentle young girl ready to bless you with her unconditional love for life.

She is a lovely cream & white Chi-Weenie (Chihuahua & Dachshund mix), 3 years of age, spayed, and available for adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Magnolia is good with other friendly dogs and reportedly housetrained and fine with mature kids.

She is blind in her left eye (birth defect).

Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these very sweet portraits to help her find a loving, forever home.

My spirit shines brighter with each new day!

Hunter has been with us almost two weeks now and we love watching his daily progress with relaxing and feeling more light-hearted and safe.

Hunter is a cute Bichon Frise & Terrier mix, about 5 years of age, neutered boy, ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.

He gets along well with other dogs and needs continued regular professional grooming.

We rescued Hunter from another shelter that asked for our help due to his obesity and neglect.

Do you think you could love me?

Pierre's eyes reveal so much of his soul and kind spirit.

He is 12 years of age and losing his previous owners (due to their financial despair) has shaken his world upside down.

But Pierre still has enormous love to give and we're eager to place him in a loving home for his twilight years.

Pierre is a plump Terrier & Poodle mix, neutered boy, good with other dogs, and reportedly housetrained.

He is long-haired, but here sporting his brand new professional shave and grooming.

Please help us find a forever home for Pierre.

Can I be your little princess?

An indoor-only life of pampering is perfect for Meg

This baby girl was just a few weeks old when found alone in a recycling yard in distress without her mother.

Since then Meg has been lovingly raised and socialized in a nurturing foster home (and she wears a bell on her collar for good fortune, courtesy of her foster mom).

Meg is now 5 months of age, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Please kitten-proof your home for her safety.

Meg adores people and craves attention.

She can be fussy with other cats, so being the only cat in your home may be ideal for her.

Please ask for Meg specifically by name when you visit.

Fresh veggies, air-conditioning, and peace-of-mind is what I desire too.

Holly is a gorgeous, engaging young girl now ready for adoption in the Lovebugs Room at Nevada SPCA.

She is a Chinchilla breed rabbit, about 2 years of age and spayed.

Holly is very sweet and gently bonds with people she learns to trust.

Special thanks to the amazing Arica at Pet'ograhique for these whimsical portraits capturing her lively spirit.

Holly needed us when her previous owners moved away without her.

Mundy, a Puggle with tremendous charm!

As you can see, Mundy is full of character and personality!

She is a small Puggle who loves to snuggle and bond with people.

She is almost 5 years of age, a spayed girl, good with other dogs, and reportedly housetrained and fine with mature kids.  Mundy debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Mundy needed us because a previous member of her family may have been allergic to her.

Baby Gretchen has been adopted by her foster family!

Baby Gretchen, July 2013

Baby Gretchen, now named Nilla Wafer, July 2013

Baby Gretchen being watched over by big sister Maxine

Maxine and Baby Gretchen
You may remember Baby Gretchen, the newborn (1 week old) rescued in the spring with very severe lacerations to her hind left leg.

During an emergency surgery, an advanced medical care clinic in Las Vegas was able to save her life and amputate her leg.

Baby Gretchen has since been in a very loving foster home with a foster mom, Jennifer, and a big sister, Maxine.  In June, we shared Jennifer's video of Baby Gretchen in a life vest, swimming in her pool to strength her other three legs (please see the video again below).

Baby Gretchen has now been adopted by her foster mom!

Jennifer says that Baby Gretchen (now named Nilla Wafer) loves to charge out from under the bed to play with Maxine, then dash back under.  She also loves playing hide-and-seek in the backyard.

Maxine and Baby Gretchen cuddle while they sleep, usually with Baby Gretchen holding her favorite toy (of a mailman) in between her paws.

I am a baby girl, not an "it".

Catalina is a cuddly, tender-hearted junior puppy debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

She is a Malti-Poo (Maltese & Poodle mix), about 9 months of age and now spayed.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety.

Catalina enjoys other sweet dogs and she needs regular professional grooming.

The kind woman who picked her up off the streets was able to locate her owner, but the person shocked her by telling her just to keep the dog because she didn't want "it" anymore.

Catalina deserves better and she is ready to bless someone with lifelong love and devotion.

Puppies rescued during the extreme Vegas heatwave now ready for adoption.

At the time of rescue during the extreme Vegas heatwave earlier this month, these four angels were in heat distress and they had been abandoned by their previous owners who moved away without them.

All were immediately cooled and monitored carefully, and fortunately, all made full recoveries.

The puppies are now spayed/neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Chris is a boy and his three sisters are Ava, Becky, and Deanna.  They are Heinz 57s, adorable blends of many breeds, (perhaps Dachshund, Beagle, but it's really too soon to make a good guess), expected to grow at most to medium size.

They are affectionate and playful and terrific together.  Please consider adopting a pair for lifelong companionship.

Also, please be sure to puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety.

Sweetheart Kittens debuting for adoption today.

These four sweetheart kittens are now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Sabrina is a girl and her three brothers are Bailey, Beetlebug, and Rudy.

They have been lovingly socialized and raised in a foster home since their rescue.  They are now 4 months of age and spayed/neutered.

They were born to a feral (undomesticated) mom in someone's backyard.  They are still bashful, but they have learned that humans can be kind and loving.

The kittens are very playful and love being around other cats.  Please consider adopting a pair for lifelong companionship.

Their socialization with people needs to continue in their new homes, so experienced owners are preferred for them.

Please kitten-proof your home for their safety.
