They gave me away on Valentine's Day.

Ozzie is fond of belly rubs, laying on the floor stretching out his paws as far as they can go.

We love his easy-going nature and quiet confidence.

Ozzie is a dashingly handsome brown tabby, shorthair, with enchanting eyes.  He is neutered and about 6 years of age.

He gets along well with other cats and seems to avoid drama.  We believe he may be compatible with kind children too.

Ozzie needed us because his previous owners said they moved into a home where cats were not allowed.

Please ask for Ozzie in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

I was saved by the kindness of strangers.

Lara was found by a caring couple after she had been abandoned in Red Rock.

Defenseless, she would not have lasted long with the elements or the coyotes, so we are deeply grateful to the couple for making the effort and taking the time to capture her and bring her to safety.

Lara is an English Spot mix, spayed, about 2 years young.

She delights in being held and adored by gentle people.

Like all domesticated bunnies, Lara needs an indoor-only where she will be safe and comfortable, and valued as a cherished member of the family.

Please ask for her by name in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.

How do I find a person who considers adoption to be a lifelong commitment?

Bocci has tremendous charm.

He is as athletic as he is cute, very playful and joyous.

Bocci is a small Terrier mix, approximately 18 pounds and 2 years young.  He is neutered and ready for adoption today.

We rescued him from a government-funded shelter that ran out of space for him.

Bocci enjoys other dogs, especially those who will play and romp with him.  Please plan on regular brushing and grooming.

I was screaming because I was hurting.

Drama is a tiny little angel who insists on tons of attention and adoration and reassurance.

She is a beautiful blend of breeds, perhaps a Beagle & Chihuahua mix.  She is spayed and about 6 months of age.

Drama was surrendered to us due to her "screaming".  But her listlessness concerned us that she was ill, and sure enough she tested positive for the deadly parvo virus.

We rushed her into emergency medical care at a veterinary hospital.  After extensive treatment, she made a full recovery.

Regular readers of this site may have noticed that we have been rescuing an increasing number of puppies, like Drama, who are arriving very ill and in urgent need of advanced medical care.  These precious lives are in the most dire of need and we deeply thank all of you who step forward to donate and help us save them.

Drama is now ready for adoption.  We believe she will do best in a gentle home environment, showered with loving care.

Please be sure to carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection.

Perhaps you just saved an angel.

Update: Juicy was adopted on February 25th!

At the time of rescue Juicy was very sick with the deadly parvo virus.

Thanks to the generosity of compassionate people like you, we were able to provide her with the advanced medical care she needed at a veterinary hospital.  After extensive treatment, Juicy made a full recovery.

We love Juicy's bubbly, jubilant personality and zest for life.

She is a lovely Beagle mix puppy, spayed girl, about 7 months of age.

Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her protection.

To help save innocent lives in desperate need, like Juicy, please donate online to Nevada SPCA.  Thank you.

I find peace gazing into your eyes.

Update: Tiger was adopted on February 25th!

Tiger needed us when his previous owner was admitted to hospice with terminal cancer.

He is a vibrant, handsome youngster, Orange Tabby, neutered boy, about 2 years of age.

Tiger is friendly and loving, perhaps a bit on the lazy side, or let's just say he takes great pleasure in lounging comfortably.  More than most cats, he likes to stare and make direct eye contact.

Special thanks to Arica at Pet'ographique for these fantastic portraits that capture his spirit.

Please ask for Tiger by name in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

I need a hero.

Shaq is a warm, noble older boy with a heart of gold.

But he began getting temperamental as he was losing his sight and hearing, making him a bit unpredictable for a time.

His adjustments are doing better now and he is less afraid of the changes happening to him.  He is mostly blind and deaf, but responds well to touch.  Staff, volunteers, volunteer trainers and veterinarians have all helped, and we feel he is now ready for adoption, provided that his progress can continue in his new home.

Shaq is a small, handsome Chow Chow, neutered, about 10 years of age.

He is compatible with most dogs and he is reportedly housetrained and fine with cats too.  Please plan on regular brushing and grooming.  An adult-only home is needed for him for the reasons stated above.

Please ask for Shaq by name when you visit.

I did everything I could to try and keep my babies alive.

Update: Daisy was adopted on February 25th!

The plight of this angel ripped our hearts out.  We are blessed to have her (and her surviving pups) here at Nevada SPCA, safe now, and ever-after (once adopted into a loving forever home), so she (and the pups too) can be shown the kinder side of human nature.

Daisy is a Maltese mix with ethereal hazel eyes, spayed girl, about 18 months of age.

At the time of rescue she was in a filthy, wet backyard with her 4 newborn puppies.  Forced to live outside, she had dug a large hole in the ground to try and keep her puppies warm.  But her previous owner said 3 of her original 7 babies had "froze to death".  When questioned why he had acted so cruelly and neglectfully, he said he "didn't want no babies" and that when he took Daisy from a friend he did not know she was pregnant.

Daisy's babies are doing well here and they will be available for adoption in the weeks to come.  Now that Daisy has been spayed she is ready for adoption.

Daisy longs for loving attention and reassurance.  Please plan on regular professional grooming care to keep her looking and feeling good.

I adore horses.

A gentle giant, Millie loves having her ears and horns scratched.

She gets along beautifully with dogs, pigs, and especially horses, who she bonds with strongly, and she is quicker to trust women than men.

Millie is a Boer goat.  Despite her very large size, approximately 150 to 200 pounds, she enjoys running and playing.

We rescued Millie from a government-funded shelter.  They believed she was pregnant at the time and about to give birth, so we directly placed her in an experienced foster home in a ranch setting for tender loving care.

Goat specialists checked on Millie though, trimmed her hooves and evaluated her condition.  They unanimously concluded she is not pregnant and that the large fatty pockets on her sides are common in older goats, especially those who have been repeatedly bred.

They further reminded us to take great caution in adopting her because Boer goats are used for meat production and she may attract someone who wants to slaughter her for food or religious sacrifice.

Of course, we are absolutely dedicated to finding Millie a forever home where she is valued as a companion and family member.  Over the years we have placed dozens of goats into terrific homes and we are confident we can find Millie a loving home too.  Paradise for Millie will be nurturing people who have horses she can befriend too.

At this time, Millie remains in her foster home where she continues to recover wonderfully from previous neglect.  (We do not know her circumstances before landing at the shelter mentioned above.)  But please contact us if you would like to meet her and we can make arrangements.

Am I invisible?

All of us, and James too, are perplexed why visitors never ask to meet and engage this cheerful, zippy boy.

One of our longest residents, James has watched thousands of dogs being adopted and he must wonder when his ship will come in.

James is a good-looking mix of Dachshund and Miniature Pinscher.  He is neutered, about 8 years of age, and compatible with other dogs, especially dogs who are larger than he is.

As an extra adoption benefit, he goes home with free comprehensive dog training!

Please come meet this joyful little fellow and we think you will be amazed by his character and personality.

These stellar portraits of James are courtesy of the wonderful people at Pet'ographique to help him get adopted into a forever home.

I am a little peach, a little lion, and I delight in dancing on 3 legs.

We are so charmed by this noble, majestic youngster whose spirit has survived great adversity.

Pongo is a Pomeranian, neutered boy, 2 years young, with a leonine appearance and light peach coloring.

After being struck by a truck, he is very fortunate to be alive.  His front left leg could not be saved, but he is healing and adjusting beautifully.

Pongo is a first-rate snuggler and dancer and he has immense love for people.  He is also great with other sweet dogs.

Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him.

Life is infinitely sweeter having a brother.

These friendly, outgoing youngsters needed us due to their previous owner's financial hardship.

Moe & Orson are guinea pigs, strongly bonded boys who want and need to stay together forever.

Both are 2 years of age and quite handsome.  Moe is an Abyssinian mix and Orson is an American breed with calico coloring.

Like rabbits, they thrive indoors with cool temperatures.  Outdoor living in our desert climate is completely out of the question and could be fatal.

Please visit Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room and ask for Moe & Orson by name.

I love to catnap in fluffy beds.

Tasha fancies the comforts of life and she takes great care in grooming and selecting places to hide and nap.

She is a magnificent Seal Point Siamese, spayed girl, about 7 years of age.  She was previously declawed (front paws), so it is especially important that she strictly has an indoor-only lifestyle for her safety and protection.

Tasha needed us because her previous owner believed a member of the family was allergic to her.

She loves people, but like many Siamese felines she is not shy about telling you when she wants her independence, so any children in the home should be older and mature.

Please visit Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms and ask for Tasha by name.

He gave me a violent goodbye. But I am rebounding emotionally.

A witness saw someone shaking a blanket out of a second-story window of an apartment complex, and out with the dust, intentionally, flew this gorgeous little girl.

The witness scooped her up, worried she had broken bones, and brought her to us.

We named her Goldie and a veterinarian evaluated her and determined that though traumatized, she was not physically injured from the ordeal.

Goldie still believes in people and she is drawn to kind, gentle humans for affection and reassurance.

Goldie is a golden brown tabby, medium-hair feline, spayed, about 3 years of age.

Please adopt her, speak softly to her, and make sure she never experiences human cruelty again.

Bless you for saving us.

Swiss Miss
Update: Swiss Miss and Espresso were adopted on February 24th!

Our ability to save animals in desperate need, and those requiring advanced medical care, is possible only because of the generosity and compassion of people like you who donate to Nevada SPCA.

Swiss Miss and Espresso, sister and brother, are two babies who had almost no hope when they became ill with the parvo virus and their previous owner was unwilling and/or unable to provide the medical care necessary to save their lives.

We rescued these angels and rushed them into emergency medical care at a veterinary hospital.  After extensive treatment, both valiantly made full recoveries.

Swiss Miss and Espresso are cute babies with loving natures and gentle spirits.  They are Labrador Retriever mixes, spayed/neutered, about 4 months of age, and we expect them to grow to large size.

Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety and protection.

They can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting the pair for lifelong love and companionship.

Blue-eyed Baby Boys

Dartmouth and Bowie are social, friendly, cute baby boys ("kits") who would love a forever home where they are showered with attention and loving care.

They appear to be combinations of multiple breeds, including Hot Tot & New Zealand & Dutch.  They are neutered, about 5-6 months of age.

At the time of rescue these two boys and 8 other bunnies had been stuffed inside a small bird cage and abandoned.  Fortunately, all 10 rabbits survived.

Dartmouth and Bowie can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting them together for lifelong companionship and love.

Gentle little lambs.

Sophia & Puchie are precious babies, sister and brother, and they are fun and frisky and very sweet.

They are Poodle & Chihuahua & Terrier mixes with the appearance of tiny lambs.  Each weighs just 9 pounds.  They are spayed/neutered and about 9 months of age.

They are tremendous together, so we give preference to adopting them together for lifelong companionship.

We rescued Sophia & Puchie from another shelter.  They are reportedly already housetrained and no reason was given for their surrender there.

Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety and protection.

For a whole year we waited in vain for them to return for us.

We recently learned about the plight of Chloe and Coco through an email rescue network.  Their previous owners abandoned them in the backyard of the foreclosed home.  For an entire year neighbors had been bringing them scraps of food and bowls of water, but they were living on dirt and without anything but minimal human contact.

These social angels are now in the safety and loving environment of Nevada SPCA and they no longer have to wonder if any meals will be forgotten.  Both are ready for adoption into loving homes.

Chloe is lovely Heinz 57 (blend of breeds) with Retriever and she has soulful eyes.  She is spayed and about 7 years of age.

Coco is an easy-going, affectionate Cocker Spaniel who gives kisses.  He is neutered and about 5 years of age.  Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him.

They can be adopted separately, but please consider keeping them together.  For the past year all they have had is each other and the kindness of strangers.

I am a Belgian beauty, inside and out.

Update: Rosco was adopted on February 22nd!

Rosco is an intelligent boy with a sparkling personality.

He is an especially handsome Belgian Shepherd, Tervuren, neutered, about 4 years of age.

Besides being compatible with other dogs, Rosco is reportedly housetrained (with a doggie door) and crate-trained.  We do not believe he has ever been around children.

Rosco needed us due to "condo problems" with his previous owner.

Shepherd knowledge and/or experience is preferred for his adoption.

Why did they mistake us for trash?

Minnie Pearl
Update: Roy was adopted on February 18th!

Many of us, and many of you, peek into dumpsters when we walk by them.  Sometimes there are innocent little eyes, terrified, peeking right back up at us, pleading for help.

One of Nevada SPCA's board members found these baby angels stuffed in a crate by a dumpster.

They are treasures, beautiful inside and out.  Both Minnie Pearl and Roy, sister and brother, carry themselves nobly already, with dignity.

They are Retriever and Shepherd mixes, spayed/neutered, 3-4 months of age, and we expect them to grow to at least medium size.

Minnie Pearl and Roy can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting the pair for lifelong love and companionship.

I am an adventurous pioneer.

A master climber who loves to explore, this little guy earned his name, "Sir Edmund".

He is a super cute Teddy Bear Hamster with a friendly temperament, about 8 months of age.

Sir Edmund enjoys toys and dwellings that keep him entertained and satisfy his immense curiosity.

Sir Edmund is one of 15 hamsters we rescued from one home.  We suspect his previous owner had been breeding to sell to pet stores or for snake food.

We plead with people not to breed or purchase animals.  There are so many homeless sweethearts who have been rescued and they are eagerly awaiting forever homes.

The Marshmallow Puppies

Cupid and Domino
Bruiser and Sheila
Update: Cupid, Domino, and Sheila were adopted on February 18th!

With personalities so sugary-sweet and soft, we just had to nickname these darling babies "The Marshmallow Puppies".

Their story is a triumph on many levels.  We rescued them shortly before Christmas from one of the filthiest, dirtiest crates we have ever seen.  They were stuffed inside with both their mom and dad.   It was clear all 6 had been existing in the crate for weeks.

(Note: Their father, Sherman, a Poodle mix, was featured on this site previously and you can read his profile by doing a search at top left).

Their mom, Lilly (a small Spaniel mix), and the puppies lived in a cozy section of a Nevada SPCA staff office for extra attention and monitoring.  Their dad was neutered and adopted in early January.

When Lilly reached 9 weeks she was separated from her puppies and spayed.  The wonderful couple who adopted Sherman, and who volunteer regularly at Nevada SPCA, adopted Lilly too, and both are doing extremely well.

Now the babies have been spayed/neutered, they are 3 months of age and they are ready for adoption too.

Brothers Cupid and Domino most resemble their mom.  Bruiser, who had been the "runt" of the litter but is flourishing now, and sister Sheila most resemble their dad.

They can be adopted separately, but the puppies are so great together we give preference to adopting them in pairs for lifelong companionship.

Please ask for The Marshmallow Puppies by name when you visit.

I am 16 pounds of love.

If you seek a lovable, mellow, lazy kitty, then this big boy may be a perfect fit for your family.

Sly is kind-hearted and he gets along well with people and other cats.  Scratch him by his tail and he is in ecstasy.

Sly is a shorthair feline, neutered, 6 years of age, wearing a natural tuxedo that God gave him.

We rescued him from a government-funded shelter.

Please meet Sly and 200 other rescued, spayed/neutered cats for adoption today in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms.

The Western Pups

Update: All 5 babies were adopted on February 17th and 18th!

We named Meadow and her four brothers (Cowboy, Driver, Roundup, and Spurs) "The Western Pups".

The person who surrendered them said they were "city dogs" and she was moving to the country, or vice-versa, and whatever the truth, the reality is the dogs needed us and we were happy to bring them into safety.

Their mom is a Border Collie and their dad is unknown.  They are now spayed/neutered, about 4 months of age, and debuting for adoption.

All five seem intelligent, a bit reserved, at least with new people, and super sweet.

They can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting a pair for lifelong love and companionship.

Also, please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety and protection.

My heart is as soft as my fur.

We love Busby Berkeley's placid demeanor.

Gentle and content, he adores attention from kind people.

Busby Berkeley is a handsome Lop, neutered boy, about 18 months young.

Besides his daily salad greens, he fancies shredded wheat treats (which are safe when natural and not coated in sugar).

He needed us when his previous family surrendered him without explanation.

Please ask for Busby Berkeley by name in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.

I belong indoors to be safe and loved.

During this long economic crisis we have rescued countless domesticated bunnies from parks.

Releasing unwanted rabbits into parks is tragic on many levels.  Unable to survive on their own, many of them starve or are struck by vehicles as they leave the parks searching for someone to care for them.

Also, releasing unwanted rabbits into parks can attract coyotes looking for easy meals, which may then affect neighborhood cats and dogs.

Burbank's hungry, frightening days in a park are over.  She is now spayed and we intend to find her an indoor-only home where she is treated as a member of the family.

Burbank is an exceptionally beautiful Satin rabbit with waves of soft brown and gold coloring, just a bit over one year of age.

She is meek and shy, especially with strangers, so an experienced and gentle home is needed for her.

I am a flowering rose.

We are so proud of Faith and the immense improvements she is making, thanks to loving care and attention from volunteers and staff.

At the time of rescue she was gruesomely injured from being used as "bait" by some human monster to train his dog to fight.  Her leg was severely broken and she had head wounds.

Physically, Faith healed long ago.  Emotionally and psychologically, she is still a beautiful work in progress, though her strides are so tremendous that her fear is less of people -- she LOVES people! -- but fear of new situations.  So, an experienced, patient new owner is needed for her.

Faith is a unique Heinz 57 (blend of breeds) with Bully.  She is spayed, 2-3 years of age, and very hopeful someone will see her potential and help her realize it.

Please ask for Faith by name and spend time with her in our adoption courtyard.  She is very energetic and athletic, so an active lifestyle (or semi-active) is a necessity.

Very special thanks to Pet'ographique for this lovely portrait of Faith on a bed of roses to help her find a forever home.

My heart is healing.

Jerry looks like a superstar, now that we have groomed him, trimmed his nails, shaved away the matts and knots and dirt, and put him on premium nutritious food.

But emotionally recovering from many months of severe neglect will take more time, and we are happy he is making steady progress, starting to enjoy all of our fussing on him and attention.

Jerry is an apricot Miniature Poodle mix, neutered boy, 2 years young.

He is intelligent, attentive, and he has an easy-going temperament.

Jerry bonds well with other dogs.  Please budget extra for regular professional grooming care to keep him looking and feeling his best.

We rescued him from a government-funded shelter that ran out of space for him.

You will love my dancing!

Smokie greets people he knows with overwhelming joy, even dancing and whining in anticipation.

Adopt this baby boy and you will want to race home every day so he can leap into your arms.

Smokie is a puppy of about 6 months of age, a Schipperke & Pomeranian mix, neutered, and wearing a tuxedo that God gave him.

Besides delighting in other dogs, he is reportedly housetrained and compatible with kind children.

Smokie needed us when a member of his previous family was allergic to him.

I bring sunshine with me wherever I go.

This bright-eyed boy is irresistible.

Max is a Yellow Labrador Retriever, neutered, about 4 years of age, with golden eyes and a golden heart.

Max needed us when his previous owner passed away.  After an initial bout of sadness and depression, the sparkle is back in his eyes and he is focused on the future.

He is very playful, sometimes goofy, so an active (or semi-active) lifestyle is best for him.

Please pursue basic dog training for him to help channel his energy into good behaviors.

Max bonds beautifully with people and dogs.

I can now bless the world with my unconditional love.

At the time of rescue this angelic baby girl was extremely sick with parvo virus.

Her previous owner was unwilling and/or unable to provide the emergency medical care needed to save her life, so she was surrendered to us.

Her initial prognosis for survival was poor, but we rushed her into intensive care at a veterinary hospital, and after extensive treatment, she valiantly made a full recovery.

Summer is now ready for adoption into a loving forever home.  She is Toy Poodle puppy, spayed, about 7 months of age.  She gives light kisses and has a joyful nature.

She enjoys other dogs and needs regular professional grooming care.

Summer is alive thanks to donations to Nevada SPCA from caring people like you who support our rescue and rehabilitation work for community animals in need.  Thank you.

A momentous boost for rescued animals!

Nevada SPCA's new web site launched on February 15.
The focus of Nevada SPCA's new web site is making it easy and enjoyable to meet adoptable animals and share their portraits and stories with others.

We wanted to maintain the concentration on individuality that made our original site so popular, while enlarging the animals' images and making a hundred other improvements.

For example, when you click an animal's preview picture you are taken to his or her feature page.  Put your cursor over his or her image and it grows to larger size.  And then at top right on each page you have easy buttons to share the animals' feature on Facebook, Twitter, other social media or by email, etc.

Very special thanks to Dan Geary, an honorary board member, and the other very caring people at Proof Interactive for donating the designing the spectacular new site, and hosting it.

Please visit and bear with us as we complete the pages and add new features to help the animals get adopted.

We hope you like it!
