Mr. French, a rescued Basset Hound: "I am afraid of being hated again."

Image
Mr. French was wandering the streets of Las Vegas with no sign of responsible ownership (no ID tag, no microchip ID, not neutered).  Worse, he had been beaten, and he was terrified every new person he encountered might hurt him too.  Mr. French is a handsome young Basset Hound, 2 years of age, now neutered and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is very slow to trust and his emotional recovery will take time and patience in an experienced, adult-only home with a stable lifestyle routine.  Please help Mr. French find a hero to ensure that he continues seeing only the best of human nature from now on.

Don't give up on me. I offer you my unconditional love.

Elvis inspires us with his joyful, indomitable spirit. He is mentally challenged.  We do not know whether he has developmental disability or brain damage from an early life head trauma.  He functions exceptionally well in low-stress environments and his impairment may hardly be noticeable.  But around strangers or in unfamiliar and anxious situations he may begin to panic and breathe very heavily in distress. Elvis enjoys other dogs very much.  He tends to do particularly well around one or two dogs, rather than a large group of dogs. He is a tri-color Terrier mix with wiry hair, 3 years young, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. We rescued Elvis from another shelter. Please help us find Elvis a hero who will cherish him and provide him with a stable, gentle, forever home.

Cary, healing beautifully physically and emotionally from dog fighting, triumphantly debuts for adoption today!

Image
Look at how wonderfully Cary is recovering in just 3 weeks!  Here is his original post, minutes after his rescue on July 12 with severe wounds. Veterinarians feared Cary was in danger of losing his right ear, but his surgery has proven successful and his stitches will soon be able to be removed. Cary's emotional healing has been dramatic too.  He gives us kisses, begs for belly rubs, and loves to gently cuddle.  His spiritual healing needs to continue in a new home. He is 2 years young, neutered, and triumphantly debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Despite his remarkable progress, he must be in a home without other dogs.  Even seeing another dog in the distance causes him great anxiety and agitation. Please help us find Cary a hero who will ensure his recovery continues and he reaches his full loving potential.

Allie & Scout, incredibly sweet Bloodhounds debuting for adoption.

Image
Allie Scout Allie & Scout are outgoing, happy-go-lucky, warm-hearted sweethearts. They needed us because of their previous owner's financial distress/hardship. Allie is a Bloodhound, a girl, about 4 years of age.  Scout is a Bloodhound mix (believed to be 75% Bloodhound), a boy, about 3 years young.  They are spayed/neutered, and reportedly housetrained and good with other dogs (medium and large size). Bloodhound knowledge is needed for their adoption.  We strongly prefer keeping them together for lifelong love and companionship.

Cary, likely a "bait dog", is now a Nevada SPCA rescue and at a veterinary hospital for surgery. Warning -- graphic head wound photo below!

Cary on July 12 Cary on July 12 Cary is a 2-year-old boy with a very gentle spirit.  He was in enormous pain, but only showed gratitude and love for the kindness coming his way. Special thanks to Lied Animal Shelter for agreeing to release him to us for rescue & rehabilitation.  Many of you may have known him there as #A726320.  Nevada SPCA is proud of the relationships cultivated with Lied Animal Shelter, Henderson Animal Shelter, and other shelters and rescue organizations so that we can work together whenever possible to save animals' lives. Based on all information known so far, including the large and small bite wounds on many parts of his body, Cary may have been used as a "bait dog" to train other dogs to wound and express aggression. Cary arrived at Nevada SPCA several minutes ago.  Surgery to neuter him, close his head wound, and try to save his right ear is expected to occur this afternoon at Dewey Veterinary Medical Center (which shar...

If I give you all of my unconditional love, will you keep me safe?

Some of us think Travis has cartoon-cute eyes.  While others of us believe his eyes reflect the hardships this youngster has already endured.  At the time of rescue Travis was at another shelter, emaciated from starvation and suffering from a broken tooth.  We had his tooth removed and he is slowly, steadily regaining weight and energy.  Travis is a very affectionate Miniature Pinscher, 1 year of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Travis adores people and gets along well with other dogs.  Please ask for him by name when you visit.

I have seen and survived hardship no baby should have to endure.

Gus Gus is just a puppy, 7 months of age, but his eyes and demeanor suggest the wisdom and insight of a senior dog.  This may be because this baby boy triumphantly survived an often fatal disease.  Gus Gus was suffering from parvo at the time of rescue.  We rushed him into a veterinary hospital for emergency care.  He eventually made a full and complete recovery!  Gus Gus is a uniquely attractive Beagle & Dachshund mix, neutered, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety.  Special thanks to the generous, compassionate donors who enabled us to provide him with the advanced medical care necessary to save his life.

Churchill, a fun-loving young Boston Terrier debuting for adoption today.

Image
Churchill is a fun-loving young Boston Terrier debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is great with other dogs and loves playing fetch.  Churchill is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and good with children.  He is a neutered boy, 2 years of age, who needed us due to his previous owners' financial hardships.  His cherry eye (left eye gland) is only a cosmetic issue at this time, but may need repair in the years to come if it grows or begins to bother his eye.  Please ask for Churchill by name when you visit.

Austin, a young West Highland White Terrier mix with three legs triumphantly debuting for adoption today.

Image
Austin was at another shelter after being found on the streets with a broken hind leg.  We rescued him and took him to a veterinary hospital.  Because of the location and severity of the break, Austin's leg could not be saved.  But Austin is adjusting very well to life on three legs and he triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Austin is an exceptionally sweet and loving West Highland White Terrier mix, 1 year young, neutered boy, and he loves gentle people and dogs.

I was neglected and unwanted. I started to believe I was worthless.

Pepe needs someone gentle and patient to help him recover from neglect and overcome his fear of leashes.  He is an exceptionally sweet Cockapoo, 2 years young, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Pepe is a social boy, though shy, and prefers being around people rather than showing much interest in toys.  He is good with other dogs and needs regular professional grooming.  The circumstances of Pepe's relinquishment are unclear, with his previous owner saying just that getting rid of him was her son's wish.  Pepe needs and deserves better, and we ask for your help so he can reach his full loving potential.

You saved me with only minutes to spare!

Oliver is a good-natured, brilliant youngster who so longs to feel that he belongs to someone who adores him.  He is a handsome Border Collie & Australian Shepherd mix, 2 years young, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Oliver is shy with new people and in new situations, but devoted to those he knows and trusts.  We rescued this sweet boy from another shelter just in the nick of time!  Please ask for Oliver by name when you arrive.  Border Collie or Shepherd knowledge is preferred for his adoption.

You can help me realize my full loving potential.

Chewy is a very endearing young boy who loves his doggie beds and belly rubs.  But his soul has been wounded from abuse and neglect, so we ask for your help in finding him a hero.  Trust will take time and patience in an experienced, stable, adult-only home.  Chewy is an attractive Lhasa Apso, 18 months of age, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is afraid of mops and brooms, loud people, unfamiliar men, young kids, and people who reach at him quickly.  Volunteers have helped him feel more secure and his progress needs to continue in his forever home.  Chewy has enormous potential!

My love is forever, so why was their's temporary?

Butch Cassidy is a sweetheart pup who had reportedly been handed around from person-to-person.  He can't make out what all this chaos is about, but we're telling him that the "musical chairs" is finally over and that we'll find him a stable, committed, loving home for life.  Butch Cassidy longs to bond with people, so while shy initially, he warms up quickly and flashes a winning smile.  He is a Labrador Retriever mix with stunning red coloring and a beautiful blue sunburst in his left eyes.  Butch Cassidy is 10 months of age, neutered, reportedly good with dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for his protection.

I look for the best in people and other dogs.

Happy is a jubilant young boy with a dazzling smile and rosy outlook on life.  He is an exceptionally attractive, tri-color Pomeranian mix, about 3 years of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Happy enjoys other dogs and needs regular brushing (especially for his mane).  His background is mostly unknown, except that he was confiscated from a home by a police officer.  Please help us find him the best of homes where he never loses his innocence.

Please speak to me by voice, not by fist or hitting.

Buddy Blue is a pensive young sweetheart who likes to play with tennis balls.  It breaks our hearts that he is scared of flashlights or objects that resemble them, so worried he will get struck.  Buddy Blue is a medium-size Labrador Retriever mix, 2 years of age, neutered boy, ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He seems to be housetrained and fine with other friendly dogs.  Please help us find Buddy Blue someone who can provide him with a very kind, stable, loving home.

How am I supposed to fit into this scary world?

Cody is a very sensitive young boy who yearns for peace-of-mind.  Once he trusts you he melts in your arms for reassurance.  Cody is a small Heinz 57, perhaps with Spaniel, and a unique cream-colored cotton-ball appearance, about 1 year of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Cody is good with other dogs and he responds well to gentle people.  We rescued him from another to treat his ear infection.  Cody is now healed and ready for a loving, forever home.

I look intently for kind, gentle people who won't hurt me.

Snowman so badly wants to be loved and accepted.  He crawls up to you slowly, looking deep in your eyes to see if you intend him any harm, then licks your hand when he realizes you are kind.  Snowman is a young, very attractive American Bulldog mix, neutered boy, 1 year of age, reportedly compatible with older kids and some dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We believe he has been screamed and yelled at, and perhaps been the victim of physical abuse too.  But with all of his heart, Snowman wants to believe in people again.  Will you help us find someone who will make a lifelong commitment to him and show him only the best of human nature?

I was thrown away in a cemetery.

Buddha is a docile, serene young boy now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is a very handsome Himalayan mix, about 18 months of age, and now neutered.  One of our volunteers found Buddha in a cemetery.  He had been abandoned there, but the vast majority of domesticated rabbits cannot survive on their own and succumb to starvation, the desert climate, coyotes, vehicles, and other dangers.  Buddha is shy with new people, but warm-hearted once he knows you.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this especially endearing portrait to help Buddha find a loving, indoor-only, forever home.

I am not an "Easter bunny".

Image
Jolly Roger is an incredibly cute and engaging young rabbit now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is a blend of several breeds, including English Spot, and he's just under a year of age, and now neutered. At the time of rescue this sweet boy was found with a cat or dog collar embedded into his neck.  Jolly Roger is quiet-natured and suited best for a gentle home environment.  He needs to be indoors-only and you can use baby gates to let him explore rooms while safely keeping him away from electrical cords and other dangers. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these remarkable portraits to help Jolly Roger find a loving, forever home. Jolly Roger needs to be loved each and every Easter.  Please only consider him for adoption if you can make a lifelong commitment to him being a cherished and value member of your family.

Derek, a young Weimaraner who witnessed domestic violence.

Image
Derek is a young, loyal Weimaraner with a majestic appearance and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is 1 year of age, a neutered boy, and reportedly housetrained and crate-trained, and compatible with cats & dogs & mature kids.  Derek needs a hero though.  His soul is scarred from witnessing the horrors of domestic violence and he is fearful of men who he does not know or trust.  The look of worry in his eyes is heartbreaking.  But a light-hearted, playful side of Derek will emerge once he is in a stable, gentle home where people treat each other, and him, with dignity and respect and kindness.  Please help us find Derek that forever home where his faith in humans will be restored.
