I am trying to forgive them for rejecting me when I needed them most.

Grandma is 17 years of age and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is a graceful, humble cream tabby with gold eyes, spayed, and best suited for a calm home environment.  After so many years of loving companionship, someone failed Grandma and she is homeless due to no fault of her own.  We plead for your help in finding Grandma a hero so she can be placed in a loving home environment as soon as possible.  She is good with other cats and doing well on daily thyroid medication.  Our biggest concern with cats of this age is the potential for them to become deeply depressed at the shelter when losing their previous homes and stability in their twilight years.  Thank you in advance for sharing her picture and helping Grandma .

Where do I belong? Where am I going?

Beau's owner passed away and you can see that his heart is broken. He doesn't know life without his mom, nor how he is supposed to fit in.  But we have Beau in the courtyard right now playing with two other dogs (Derby & Dazzler) and every one is working on keeping his spirits up.  Beau is a handsome Australian Shepherd & Collie mix, about 9 years of age, neutered boy, gentle and humble, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Beau's background is mostly unknown, but we know he led a relaxed, calm lifestyle with an older woman who adored him.   Please help us find Beau a wonderful new home.

Is it finally, finally, finally!, my chance to really be loved??

Spring's gloom is lifting and it is wonderful to see her spirit reigniting with hope for her future. She is a calm-natured Shiba Inu mix, petite and spayed little lady, about 9 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She valiantly survived a horrendous ordeal.  Her previous owner was breeding her for puppies, but refused to take her to a veterinary hospital when there were severe complications during labor.  We rescued Spring and rushed her into a hospital for an emergency C-section to save her life. Spring is recovering well physically and emotionally, and her days of being a breeding machine are now, finally, over.

The return of optimism.

Image
It has been wonderful to watch the hope and sparkle return to this older boy's eyes. At the time of rescue Rusty had just survived some sort of trauma and his spirit was muted in despair. Rusty is a sweet senior, good with dogs, and reportedly housetrained. He needs an adult-only home because he can reportedly get moody and become intolerant of strangers. These fantastic portraits of Rusty are courtesy of Pet'ographique.

Please see the joy, love, and grace in our eyes.

Midnight & Smokey , beautifully photographed by Pet'ographique .  These "Golden Girls" have the cheerful innocence of puppies and we are so eager for them to find a loving home where they can remain together forever.  Midnight & Smokey are soul-mates, girls of 11-12 years of age, spayed, rescued from another shelter.

Angels with wagging tails instead of wings, and they need a hero.

Image
Please help us find a hero for these angels.  At 11 and 12 years of age, Smokey & Midnight had been discarded at a government-funded shelter where they did not qualify for adoption.  We rescued them and brought them into the safety of Nevada SPCA.  Despite what they have endured, both girls maintain optimistic personalities, always ready to share their bright smiles.  And they love the world since they get to remain together, soul-mates to the end.  Smokey is a Dachshund mix and Midnight is a Labrador Retriever.  With hearts of pure gold, they will surprise you with all of the unconditional love they have to bless you with today.

The face of an angel!

Luna is a cheery, gentle, older girl anxiously awaiting adoption into a forever home. Besides being housetrained, she is good with children and dogs. Luna is a Yellow Labrador Retriever, spayed, about 10 years of age. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for capturing her beautiful essence in this spectacular pet portrait.

Kicking me out of the family after 11 years? Why??

Little Bo Peep is understandably confused and distraught.  She was a good girl for 11 years, yet her previous owner threw her away, refusing to fill out a personality profile to help her or even make a donation of one dollar toward her care. We are working to comfort Bo Peep and reassure her that she is safe.  We are dedicated to finding a loving home for her so that she spends her final years being adored. She is a lovely Pomeranian, spayed, seeking a calm, gentle home. Please consider Bo Peep and the many other seniors who are homeless due to no fault of their own.  Rich emotional rewards come with adopting seniors.

When you walk out the door, how do I know you will ever come back?

Angel is a beautiful older girl who yearns for belonging to someone who will help her feel secure. She is a Yorkshire Terrier, spayed, about 10 years of age, and she needs regular professional grooming care. Angel has a jovial personality, but when a person leaves her, she reportedly can panic and begin nipping at their heels, begging them to stay.  This behavior is the reason she lost her previous home, but it can be corrected through basic training techniques.  An experienced home is needed. She is compatible with both cats and dogs and she is reportedly housetrained and crate-trained too.

Seniors like me may especially be grateful for loving homes.

At 12 years of age, Murphy mistakenly gets overlooked by most visitors.  But he is a treasure!  He is enthusiastic, friendly, affectionate, even-tempered, loyal, and humble. Please come and meet him.  We think you will find his happy-go-lucky nature simply irresistible! Murphy is a Schnauzer & Terrier mix, neutered boy, and we rescued him after he was abandoned at a local veterinary clinic.  He is compatible with other dogs and well-behaved on a leash and in cars and on walks. The emotional rewards from adopting senior rescued animals are immense.   We hope you will open your heart to Murphy and the other seniors pleading for consideration.

Will love come around again for a 13 year old sweetheart like me?

Update: Leona was adopted on February 4th! A rustic girl with soulful, heart-breaking eyes, Leona's gentle spirit pleads for another chance for love. Imagine being homeless in your twilight years.   But she trusts us to find her someone special to cherish her and let her live in dignity during her final months or years on Earth. Leona is in surprisingly good shape for a 13 year old.  She walks very well on a leash and her teeth are healthy.  She is reportedly a Labrador Retriever and Border Collie mix.  She is spayed. We rescued her from another shelter where she did not qualify for adoption (due to age).

I need a new brother (or sister).

Update: Gus was adopted on January 17th! When his previous owners divorced, Gus lost everyone he loved, including his canine brother. He is a social, rustic boy who adores other dogs and another dog (or two) in a new home will go far toward mending his broken heart. Gus is a distinguished Dachshund mix, neutered, approximately 9 years of age, debuting for adoption today. He is reportedly housetrained and fine with mature, kind children. We cannot emphasize enough the emotional rewards of adopting seniors and welcoming their unconditional love into your life.  Please give Gus consideration.

They gave me up so I could get adopted into a cozy home.

Update: Buddy was adopted on January 13th! Buddy's previous owners loved him, but they became homeless and had to live out of a car.  They did not want to give him up, especially because of his older age (10 years), but they wanted him to have a chance for a better life. Buddy is a sweet, rustic, friendly trooper, still with lots of zip. He is a Yorkshire Terrier, neutered boy, and he debuts for adoption today. Buddy delights in loving people and engaging other dogs, and he is reportedly compatible with cats too.  Please plan on regular grooming care for him. There are deep, untold emotional rewards that come with adopting seniors.  Every day of life is precious and seniors have just as much unconditional love to share as puppies and youngsters.

Christmas week dedication to seniors, longtime residents, and animals with special needs.

Drew Leeda Mae West For the first time ever, our annual Christmas Eve adoption special lasts all of Christmas week! Beginning Monday at 11am, through Friday (Christmas Eve) at 3pm, we are reducing adoption fees by 50% for Nevada SPCA's rescued senior animals, longest-time residents, and those with special behavioral or medical needs.  In addition, we are sending them home with extra supplies (which can include animal beds, toys, blankets, treats, etc.) at no charge. The foundation of no-kill work is rehabilitation and the belief that every healthy and friendly animal is adoptable.  This dedication each year brings forth wonderful, committed people who share our love for animals of all ages, sizes, breeds, colors, and personality types. More than 250 rescued animals at Nevada SPCA qualify for this adoption special.  Please visit and meet these sweethearts in person. [A note on "gifting" of animals: We do not believe one person can choose to obligate anothe...

Will love come around again for a 12 year-old prince like me?

Perhaps we all could be a bit grumpy and feisty if we were homeless in our twilight years. But to dismiss Willy , a regal boy with a soft heart under a gruff exterior, would be a mistake.  You can develop a magical bond with him based on mutual respect and understanding. Our staff and volunteers love him dearly and refer to him as " Old Man Willy " with great affection.  He is a distinguished Longhair Chihuahua, neutered, approximately 12 years of age.  He is good with most dogs, but he is picky about which people he likes. Willy is one of our longest residents.  He must feel misunderstood watching all of the younger dogs going home every day while he continues waiting for his special one.   Please open your heart to Old Man Willy .  You have the power to give him a Christmas miracle, a forever home. These captivating portraits are courtesy of the wonderful people at Pet'ographique to help him find his knight in shining armor.

My good cheer makes the world just that much kinder.

Update: Happy was adopted on December 11th! We are so proud of Happy , and how she has remained upbeat and joyful despite recent losses that resulted in her becoming homeless at 13 years of age. She is a small Beagle mix, spayed, and rescued from another shelter where she was taken when her previous owner died. Happy is great with other dogs and adores their company.  She is surprisingly zippy and spunky for her advanced age, though her hearing has diminished. We cannot emphasize enough the emotional rewards that come with adopting senior animals like Happy, or animals with special needs.   One of the benefits is the reminder that every single day of life is precious. Please come meet Happy .  She is ready for adoption and ready to share tremendous love with you. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this regal portrait of Happy to help her find a caring home.

Can I be your golden boy?

Update: Sully was adopted on December 23rd! Sully would love to share his sunny nature with someone who will appreciate his upbeat personality. He is cheery despite being kicked out of his previous family as a senior. Sully is a Cocker Spaniel mix, neutered male, about 10 years of age, debuting for adoption today. We know he has glorious joy to give, but his background is mostly unknown.  We could not get his previous owner to fill out the personality profile form, so all we know is his mention that Sully was not getting along with another dog in the home. Please plan on regular grooming and brushing for Sully . As we have noted on this site many times, we believe it is a huge mistake to overlook sweethearts like Sully because of their age.  Adopting a senior brings untold emotional rewards that can make a powerful lifelong impact for both of you.

I am a senior who needs a second chance, please.

Update: Happy was adopted on December 11th! Another shelter contacted us when Happy was surrendered to them and asked us to consider taking her because of her advanced age. Jolly despite losing her home, and her hearing -- she is deaf or nearly deaf -- we decided we certainly had to make room for Happy so that we could find her a loving home where she can live the rest of her life in dignity. Today she debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  She is a Beagle and Terrier mix, spayed female, about 13 years old.  Her teeth are now cleaned and she is on weight maintenance food (because she is beyond pleasantly plump). Happy adores people and dogs.  She is gentle and mellow, and we believe she can fit well into most leisurely lifestyles with ease.   Please give her serious consideration.  While we do not know whether she has several months to live, or several more years, every day is precious.

The years have helped me become more distinguished.

Seniors have just as much love to offer as kittens and younger cats, but generally get overlooked by adopters. We invite you to consider Banjo , a calm-natured boy with a mellow spirit and heart of gold.  He wears a butterscotch tuxedo that God gave him, he is neutered and approximately 10 years of age. Banjo was abandoned at a veterinary hospital and had nowhere to go.  We made room for him and he debuts for adoption today. If you seek a lap cat, then please come meet Banjo and ask for him by name. Like all cats, he needs an indoor-only lifestyle for his safety and protection.

Are we going to be okay?

Rocky Scruffy Meeko Update 3: Meeko was adopted on December 24th! Update 2: Scruffy was adopted on November 20th! Update: Rocky was adopted on October 23rd! These three loving seniors were surrendered to another shelter by their previous owners when the family home was lost to foreclosure. Because of their old ages, they are 10-11 years of age, they did not qualify for adoption there and Nevada SPCA was asked to take them.  They debut for adoption with us today. All three are housetrained, neutered males, compatible with other dogs.  Rocky is a Shih-Tzu with an easy-going disposition.  Scruffy is a Terrier and Dachshund mix with a jolly outlook and beaming smile.  Meeko is a quiet-natured Chiweenie (Chihuahua & Dachshund). They can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting a pair, or the trio, for companionship. Seniors have just as much unconditional love as youngsters, plus deep gratitude for those who open their hearts to them...
