Emerald

Image
Emerald begins to beam with hope. She's no longer hanging her head in despair.    She doesn't understand leashes, so we're carrying her from room to room, but she wants to learn. Emerald is a sensitive girl ready to bloom in a loving, forever home where she will be showered with reassurance and kind guidance.    She is a medium-size (42 pounds) Retriever mix, 5 years of age, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA .    Emerald was at another shelter that asked for our help with her timidity and fear.

Goliath

Image
Goliath , a 102-pound "lap dog" with a puppy-like disposition, shares his sunny nature with everyone he meets. He is a unique blend of breeds, including Smooth Collie & Retriever, 1 year young and neutered, crate-trained, good with kids and large dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA . The paint spots on his neck and tail are reportedly from where a child was painting him. Goliath needed us when his previous owners moved out of the country.

Elizabeth needs a foster home.

Image
Elizabeth , saved from peril, now feels so good she can't stop kissing people and playing with her toys! This darling baby girl needs a foster home please for approximately 2 weeks (until she can be spayed). If you can help, please visit Nevada SPCA in person and ask for Lani. Elizabeth was in danger of succumbing to the parvo virus at the time of rescue. She was surrendered to us and we rushed her into emergency treatment at a veterinary hospital. Thanks to extensive care made possible by generous donations, she made a beautiful recovery. ( Elizabeth cannot be around dogs who are not up-to-date on vaccines.) Elizabeth is believed to be a Siberian Husky and Retriever mix, 3 months of age.

Ferris and Elvis

Image
Ferris and Elvis Ferris Elvis Rosie, their mom, adopted Thursday Their mother, Rosie , was adopted on Thursday. Their seven siblings were adopted yesterday. Today, Ferris and Elvis , sister and brother, are debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA . The babies have been beautifully raised, nurtured and socialized in a wonderful foster home. (We rescued Rosie from another shelter. She was pregnant at the time and birthed and raised her nine puppies in foster care.) Their father is unknown. Rosie is a gentle, red-gold blend of Retriever, Ridgeback, and Shepherd. Elvis looks just like his mom! Ferris and Elvis are 3 months of age and now spayed/neutered.

Rosie

Rosie, January, 2017 Rosie, September, 2016 Rosie and babies, October, 2016 Rosie and babies, October, 2016 Rosie is a quiet-natured girl who completely devotes herself to those she adores. She enjoys resting at your feet and guarding the bathroom door door while you bathe and shower. Many of you may remember Rosie from early autumn after we rescued her, pregnant, from another shelter. Rosie was placed in an exceptional foster home where she birthed and raised her babies. (Her puppies will be spayed/neutered and ready for adoption later this month.) Rosie is a red-gold blend of many breeds (Retriever, Ridgeback, Shepherd), 1 year of age, great with other dogs, housetrained, now spayed and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA .

Van Dyke

Image
Van Dyke's heart is so broken we feared he had lost the will to live. (We rescued him from another shelter after officers had to confiscate him from his previous home.) Van Dyke is accepting kindness and his appetite is improving. We housed him with another dog for friendship and this immediately changed his posture for the better. Van Dyke is also bonding well with the staff and volunteers. We believe he can emerge from the depression at any time. Van Dyke is 1 year young, a Shepherd & Yellow Labrador mix, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Gustav

Image
Gustav glows with goodwill and kindness for the people who are kind to him.  He wants everyone around him to share his joy.  Gustav is a young, large Heinz 57 with Retriever, and possibly Akita too, 1 year of age, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is good with other large and friendly dogs. We rescued Gustav from another shelter that ran out of space for him.

Patrick

Image
Patrick worries that people don't like him. He carefully studies new people for signs and doesn't feel worthy of love. Patrick is magnificent, but does not yet know it.    Each day he seems to build a bit more self-esteem and confidence. Compliment him with reassurances and praise and he hangs on to your words to feel better. Patrick is a handsome, red-gold Retriever & Shepherd mix, 2 years young, good with other large dogs, now neutered and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA.    We rescued him in the nick of time from another shelter.    Please visit and ask for Patrick by name.

Will you please help me find a new soul-mate?

Golden Max is a sensitive, affectionate, and stunningly handsome puppy now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.   He is a Retriever & Shepherd mix, 8 months young, neutered, and reportedly housetrained and crate-trained.  Golden Max seems to have lost his previous home due to his broken heart. He was reportedly very attached to a small dog who passed away a few weeks ago. Gold en Max then became very depressed and moody mourning his companion.  We strongly prefer placing Golden Max in a home with at least one other dog. Golden Max is reportedly compatible with cats too.  We believe it is best to keep him away from young children until his emotional healing is complete.  Please help us find him a wonderful, loving, forever home.

Can you see my goodness?

Shadow is a cheerful and exceptionally good-natured senior full of optimism and joy.  He enjoys children, dogs, and cats, plus he is housetrained and crate-trained too.  Shadow loves toys that look like turtles.  He is a medium-size Shepherd & Retriever mix, 12 years of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Along with his eternal gratitude, there are rich emotional rewards that can come with adopting senior animals, who have just as much unconditional devotion to share with you as a puppy.

Your body language is very important to me.

Rocky is a very kind young boy who likes to cuddle and be close to you.  He enjoys playing fetch and he is reportedly housetrained.  Rocky is reportedly a Bully & Retriever mix, medium-size, 1 year of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Like many other blue-eyed dogs with white coats, he is deaf.  Please use consistent hand signals with Rocky and take extra precautions puppy-proofing your home for his safety.  Rocky needed us because of his previous owner's home foreclosure.

The six Soft & Cuddly Puppies debut for adoption today!

Image
Charming Cotton Puff Downey Satin Silk At the time of rescue these angels were just three days old, born in a desert field area behind a strip mall. Since then, the six puppies and their mother, a small Bully mix, have been in loving foster care for TLC and socialization.  Their foster family did a wonderful job caring for them. The " Soft & Cuddly Puppies " are now 3 months of age, spayed/neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  They are two boys ( Downey and Cotton ) and four girls ( Charming , Puff , Satin , and Silk ).  It's too early to tell, but we suspect their father is a Retriever or Retriever mix, and believe the pups will grow to medium size. All have affectionate, super sweet temperaments and adore people.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety. Their mother, named Snuggles, will be available for adoption too in the days to come.

Every experience is better with my soul-mate.

Size differences don't matter when it comes to souls. These two girls, Molly & Shelby , are bonded for life and gently whine if the other leaves their eyesight. Both girls are exceptionally sweet, yet initially shy, spayed, and about 7-8 years of age.  Molly is a medium-size Shepherd and Retriever mix, while Shelby is a Longhair Chihuahua mix. Molly & Shelby debut for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Please help us find them a wonderful, loving, forever home.

We are hopeful for a Christmas miracle -- a loving forever home.

Jellybean & Licorice Update: Jellybean & Licorice were adopted on December 22nd! If only it was all about personality, then Jellybean & Licorice , a super-sweet and cheery sister-brother team, would have been snatched up by someone wonderful immediately after debuting for adoption. But the months have rolled by, as it often does for mixed breed dogs who are larger than Toy size and have black coats.  Nationwide, as we have written here before, these dogs are mistakenly overlooked in shelters. Pet'ographique has very generously helped us spotlight this pair of superstars with a brand new professional portrait, showing them at their eager, humble, gracious best. If you have room for a pair of soul-mates, then we urge you to consider Jellybean & Licorice .  They are medium-size Retriever mixes (smaller than most Retrievers), spayed/neutered, about 6 years of age.  Jellybean is a bit more petite than her tuxedo-clad brother Licorice . We rescued ...

Perhaps I am royalty. But I just want a loving, forever home.

Update: Countess was adopted on December 18th! Countess is a regal girl, but down-to-earth and very sweet, more interested in snuggling than being treated like a princess. She is a Labrador Retriever mix, spayed, and about 7 years of age.  She was trying to fend for herself on the streets at the time of rescue. Countess gets along very well with other dogs.  She is mellow and easy-going, full of so much charm once you give her a close look.  But the problem is that she is usually overlooked by visitors, maybe due to her size or coloring. To help showcase Countess at her best, we asked the good people at Pet'ographique to feature her in a professional portrait, and we think the result is spectacular, revealing her innocence and friendliness. (Double-click her picture to see it in larger size.) She has so much unconditional love to share.  Please come meet Countess and spend time with her in our adoption courtyard.  She is ready to bless a special p...

I am like a Teddy Bear who has come to life.

Update: Jake was adopted on November 26th! Pet'ographique , a professional portrait studio in Henderson, donated their time and talent to help us showcase Jake , a boy whose magic is revealed upon closer inspection. As with other "big black dogs" -- who nation-wide have the most difficulty in shelters and rescue programs -- it is important we do all we can to encourage people to give him a second look so that an adoption decision can be made on his personality, instead of his size or age or coloring. And what a personality he has!  Jake is full of life, very charming and loyal, easy-going, and eager to please you. He is a tuxedo Retriever mix, neutered male, about 6 years of age.  He has been with us since September awaiting adoption, but he keeps getting mistakenly overlooked. Jake is good with other dogs and reportedly housetrained.  We rescued him from another shelter, where he was placed when his previous family had financial hardship. Please look ...

Can I lean on you?

Update: Goldie Bear was adopted on October 20th! We love Goldie Bear's human-like face.  She is gorgeous! And she is beautiful on the inside too.  Though shy at first, she nestles with those she likes, leaning on them for bonding, and she may even sneak in a kiss or two. Goldie Bear is an intelligent, good-natured, medium-size Shepherd and Retriever mix.  She is spayed and approximately 18 months of age. She needed us because her previous owner said he had "too many dogs". Goldie Bear is not only good with other dogs, but she is reportedly compatible with kind children of all ages. She needs to learn to live primarily indoors as a cherished member of your family, and we believe she will pick this up quickly.  So please be patient with her and provide positive guidance for housetraining. Goldie Bear debuts for adoption today.

Can I be your baby girl forever?

Update: Ashes was adopted on October 23rd! This angelic puppy debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Ashes is a beautiful blend of breeds, most likely including Retriever, and we expect her to grow to medium size.  She is spayed and approximately 3 months of age. She is just as precious and lovely on the inside.  She is fun, playful, affectionate, and friendly, and adores other sweet dogs. Please be sure to carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety and protection. Ashes needed us when her previous owner surrendered her away (for not stated reason). Please only consider adopting Ashes if you can make a lifetime commitment to her joining your family.

I am quite vivacious and I need lots of daily activity.

Update: Jill was adopted on November 2nd! A brilliant and athletic girl, Jill gets bored if not given enough exercise (physical and mental) each day. This is easy enough if you can set aside daily time for walks and play, as well as include her in as many family activities as possible. Jill is a gorgeous Border Collie and Retriever mix, spayed, in her prime at 3 years young. Besides being good with other dogs, she is reportedly housetrained (with a doggie door), crate-trained, and enjoys kind children. She lost her previous home due to someone in the household being allergic to her. Please ask for Jill by name at our headquarters and spend time with her in our adoption courtyard.  If you have an active lifestyle and plenty of quality time for her daily, this devoted girl may make an excellent lifelong companion for you.

They left us behind, but we still had each other.

Minnie & Molly are sisters whose bond only grew stronger when they experienced the trauma of abandonment in a foreclosed home. Fortunately, a caring neighbor suspected the girls were trapped inside and took steps to get them saved. Minnie & Molly still believe in people. They have big, sweet smiles to share with everyone kind, and you can see their tails wagging in excitement to greet you. The girls are Boxer and Retriever mixes, spayed, about 8 years of age, and debuting for adoption today. At the time of rescue both had advanced medical needs. We had a tumor on Minnie's uterus removed and multiple mammary tumors on Molly removed. They bounced back and recovered beautifully. ( Please donate online if you would like to help us with their medical expenses .) Minnie & Molly are soul-mates. Please be sure they stay together their entire lives. We hope you come meet them in our adoption courtyard today.
