Is everything going to turn out okay for me?

Rosie doesn't understand about money and financial hardship, so losing her previous home has confused her and turned her world upside down.  Rosie is a humble, gentle older girl with a very kind spirit and she debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is a Lhasa Apso mix, now shaved to get rid of all of the mats and knots in her neglected coat, 11 years of age and spayed.  Rosie is good with other dogs and reportedly housetrained.  She asks only for love and dignity for her twilight years.  Please help us find Rosie a hero.

Via Spiga, a baby guinea pig found in a shoebox by a dumpster.

Image
At the time of rescue this baby girl was in a shoebox by a dumpster at an apartment complex.  She was in horrific condition from severe neglect.  We named her Via Spiga .  Now, many weeks later, she has recovered beautifully (physically and emotionally), under veterinary supervision, and she triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Via Spiga is a petite, angelic Abyssinian mix guinea pig, approximately 6-8 months of age.  Please ask for Via Spiga by name in our Lovebugs Room and show her only the best of human nature from now on.

Before & After -- two young Shih-Tzus recovering from extreme neglect.

Marie & Mark, after being shaved down on June 7. Marie, on the day of her rescue, June 6. Mark, on the day of his rescue, June 6. Marie & Mark are not yet ready for adoption, but these angels are on the road to recovery from extreme neglect. They were thrown over a fence into someone's yard.  Fortunately, they did not end up with broken legs or other bones from the fall.  (If we determine the identity of their previous owners, we will, of course, be giving that information to authorities for animal abuse prosecution.) Their matting was so severe and filthy they could barely see.  This is neglect that has likely taken place over their entire lives.  We doubt they have ever been groomed or pampered until they arrived at Nevada SPCA. Marie is afraid of women, but she is letting men handle and give her nurturing care.  Mark is very bashful, but a bit more trusting of both women and men. Special thanks to all of you who donate to Neva...

I was neglected and unwanted. I started to believe I was worthless.

Pepe needs someone gentle and patient to help him recover from neglect and overcome his fear of leashes.  He is an exceptionally sweet Cockapoo, 2 years young, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Pepe is a social boy, though shy, and prefers being around people rather than showing much interest in toys.  He is good with other dogs and needs regular professional grooming.  The circumstances of Pepe's relinquishment are unclear, with his previous owner saying just that getting rid of him was her son's wish.  Pepe needs and deserves better, and we ask for your help so he can reach his full loving potential.

Can't I live indoors in safety and comfort?

Image
Mena is a petite, captivating girl with soft blue eyes and she is now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  A gentle home is best for her, indoors-only, of course.  Mena's previous owner kept her outdoors and she was so neglected that besides all of the grime and dirt in her coat, two of her claws had grown so long they had circled and torn into her paws.  When they dumped her they brought her in a shabby box that she quickly escaped from, and then she hid under a dumpster, terrified.  Mena is a gorgeous Tortie Point Siamese, about 6 years of age, spayed, and best-suited for a calm lifestyle.

Jordache & Halston are making a comeback!

Image
Jordache & Halston are sophisticated, enchanting loverboys who crave attention and affection.  They are handsome Pekingeses, approximately 4-5 years of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Jordache & Halston are good with other dogs and need regular professional grooming.  They were rescued from a neglectful home where they were banished to live outdoors only, day and night, which is completely unacceptable.  But the boys still believe in people and long to become valued, cherished members of a loving and attentive family.

Will my heart heal too?

Bobbin is a bashful young boy with a gentle nature and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is a cute Toy mix, 3 years of age, neutered, and good with other dogs.  We rescued Bobbin from another shelter to treat his ear infection and shave away the matted knots resulting from long-term neglect.  He doesn't know he is safe yet -- as you can see by looking in his eyes -- but we are working on his emotional recovery too.  Bobbin needs a calm home environment with a stable routine where he will be showered with affection.

What does it feel like to be adored?

Elvis dances on his hind legs when he is especially happy and greeting you.  He is a soulful Bichon Frise & Poodle mix, about 5 years of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA, and he is great wit h other sweet dogs.  We rescued Elvis from another shelter. He was a matted mess and one of his teeth was painfully broken, but he is now cleaned up, well with dental care, and ready to start a new life with lots of love and promise. Please ask for Elvis by name when you visit.

I'm Sweet Sixteen and ready to start a new life.

Please help Lexie find a hero.  This 16-year-old angel was found abandoned near the racetrack in terribly neglected condition.  Was she being sacrificed to the coyotes, to the desert elements, or did the monster who put her in harm's way really even care?  We all know what humans are tragically capable of, so it's most productive for us to focus instead on all of the amazingly kind and compassionate people who lend a hand and offer loving, forever families for animals in need.  We are blessed to have so many of you on Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, and Pinterest who share our belief that all life is precious and share the animals' posts to help them get adopted.  Lexie is a Lhasa Apso mix, spayed girl, good with other dogs, and best with very gentle adults, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Before & After: Sammy, a Briard mix, who is now ready for adoption.

Image
Sammy upon arriving at Nevada SPCA on the day of his rescue. Sammy today, after his matted coat had to be shaved away. Before & After: It's hard to believe this is the same dog.  But at the time of rescue, Sammy , a Briard mix, was so matted and knotted that we had to have his coat shaved completely off, to his skin even. Now, his hair can grow back beautifully and cleanly without painful tangles. Sammy is a very engaging, good-natured boy and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is about 5 years of age, neutered, tail-less, and fine with most dogs. Sammy was taken to a government-funded shelter when his previous owner died.  But he was running out of time there, perhaps overlooked due to his neglected condition. Of course, he is safe now, and we ask for your help in finding Sammy a terrific new start in life with a loving, forever home.

What was hidden under the dirty ball of fur?

Like so many other rescued dogs, Pistol was a big ball of knots and tangles at the time of rescue, filthy from long-term neglect.  Hidden under all of the mess was an angel.  Pistol has irresistible charm, whether looking at you with his big brown eyes, or when he's standing on his hind legs and dancing for attention.  He is a Toy Poodle mix (9 pounds), about 5 years of age, good with other dogs, neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued Pistol from another shelter to treat the sores on his back paws.

My spirit is awakening to new joys and hope.

Shelton is a super cute, timid puppy who yearns to understand how he belongs in this world.  He is a Miniature Poodle mix, 9 months of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Shelton likes other dogs and may do best in a home with a big brother or big sister dog to help him adjust.  He likes to sometimes stand on his hind legs to get a better view.  At the time of rescue Shelton was found by a family in such terrible condition that they had to trim the hair out of his eyes so he could see.  Please keep him groomed and let him know every day that he is cherished and adored.

I can be your very own angel.

Elroy rolls over on your feet pleading for belly rubs.  He is like a teddy bear who has come to life to snuggle and give you doggie kisses. Elroy is a 33-pound Heinz 57, perhaps a Shetland Sheepdog mix though his appearance is quite unique, about 5 years of age, neutered boy, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He has a shrunken right eye with impaired vision (birth defect) and his coat had to be shaved to the skin due to severe neglect. We rescued Elroy from another shelter. Please help us find him a very warm, loving, forever home.

Candi, a young rescued Golden Doodle yearning for kindness.

Image
If self-esteem hinged on beauty, then gorgeous Candi would have a world of confidence. But Candi's previous owners reportedly abandoned their foreclosed home, left her in the backyard, in a state of neglect.  She holds her head low feeling worthless. Neighbors stepped forward to save her. We had Candi professional groomed, as well as spayed and micro-chipped.  She is a Golden Doodle (Golden Retriever & Standard Poodle mix), spayed girl, 3 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. The neighbors who helped Candi said she is housetrained and good with mature kids. She is very shy, but she will bloom in a stable, loving home environment where she knows she is cherished and valued as a member of the family.

My spirit is soaring!

Nina looks magnificent with her new haircut, unrecognizable from the matted, filthy mess of an appearance she had at the time of rescue.  Emotionally, she is recovering well from neglect too, with a light-hearted spirit emerging.  Nina is an adorable Toy Poodle mix, 2 years young, spayed, reportedly housetrained, and now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  She enjoys other sweet dogs and needs regular professional grooming.  Please ask for Nina by name when you visit.

Will you restore my faith in humans?

Botticelli is a calm-natured boy with a gentle spirit.  He is a Shih-Tzu, about 10 years of age, neutered, and now available for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Botticelli is humble and just asks for kindness and he gets along well with other sweet dogs.  One of our volunteers found him abandoned in an industrial area of Las Vegas.  He is blind in his right eye and at the time of rescue he was very poor condition.  Botticelli is bouncing back and he is so grateful to be out of the cold and to have a full belly and blankets to rest on.  Please help us find him a hero for his twilight years.

I am trying to understand the world again.

At the time of rescue Reuben was found in the flood basin/wash. He was extremely matted and filthy, but probably just recently abandoned because he would not survive the coyotes there for long.  The physical improvements came easiest -- shaving him completely down and putting him on premium food -- but the emotional healing will take time and patience.  Reuben is gentle, and his spirit is reviving. We look forward to the day when Reuben will be light-hearted and very relaxed.  Reuben is a Toy Poodle, about 5 years of age, good with other dogs, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Promise me that my dark days are over.

Exceptionally sweet and lovable, Tammy is an angel on Earth, so ready to bless someone with her unconditional devotion.  She is a beautiful Fox Terrier & Toy mix, 1 year young, spayed girl, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Tammy is gentle, enjoys other dogs, and she is recovering well from severe neglect. We rescued Tammy from a government-funded shelter that ran out of space for her.

What does really being loved feel like?

Image
Bart is now glowing and shining, so full of optimism that he will finally get to know what a loving home feels like.  He is a Bichon Frise & Poodle mix, neutered boy, 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Bart was a filthy, matted mess at the time of rescue, but that neglectful past was shaved away when we had him cleaned and groomed.  Bart enjoys other dogs and needs regular professional grooming.  An adult-only home is strongly preferred.  He is very anxious about being picked up and still recovering emotionally from years of severe neglect.

Tasha feels on top of the world!

Image
Tasha is a bubbly, comical young lady with the most wonderful, expressive ears!  She is a delightful Poodle, just one year of age, spayed, good with dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Please keep her always professional groomed.  Tasha had been the victim of neglect, but now that she is groomed and feeling pretty, she feels on top of the world!!
