I need to know that everything is going to be okay for me.

Tinsel is a kind junior puppy recovering from severe neglect and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is a Toy Poodle mix, 9 months of age, a spayed girl, yearning for love and security.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard, as well as plan and budget for regular professional grooming. Tinsel is generally good with other dogs, except around food.  We believe she has experienced starvation, so she does not take food for granted, and needs to be fed treats and meals away from other dogs or children.  Tinsel's progress has already begun and she needs to continue blooming in an experienced home.

I am a sunny Beagle with a puppy-like temperament.

Autumn is a sunny, cheery girl with a ready smile. She is a beautiful tri-color Beagle, spayed, 4 years of age. Though mostly puppy-like in temperament, Autumn is serious about food. Perhaps due to previous starvation, she has food aggression from fear of going hungry. This behavior can diminish with time and patience in an experienced, adult-only home. Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these amazing portraits to help get Autumn adopted into a loving, forever home.

My favorite game is a variation on traditional fetching.

Update: Chewy was adopted on July 28th! Playing regular fetch may be fine for most dogs. But Chewy vastly prefers retrieving the ball and then refuses to give it back to you. So it's more like "retrieve & chase me". He is a happy, darling little guy, generally very well-behaved. Chewy is a handsome Lhasa Apso, neutered, approximately 4-5 years of age. We rescued him from another shelter. Chewy is compatible with other dogs, except around food or treats when his food aggression may kick in. Please be sure to feed him separately from the other dog(s) in the home. Food aggression can diminish with time and with good behavioral guidance from you. Please also plan on regular professional grooming care and budget extra accordingly. Chewy debuts for adoption today.

I have tremendous loving potential.

Update: Bella Zool was adopted on December 27th! A very sensitive, cautious girl, Bella Zool is a youngster still building self-esteem and confidence. We see her as a beautiful flower about to bloom, provided she gets the right loving home environment. Bella Zool is a Whippet mix, spayed, just a year of age. She is fine with many dogs, but she reportedly lost her home due to fighting with another dog over food (more below on this). She is reportedly compatible with cats and "mostly" housetrained (with a doggie door). Bella Zool's previous owner mentioned two special needs. First, perhaps due to an episode of previous starvation, she has mild food aggression. Second, she reportedly "piddles" (releases small amounts of urine when very frightened, usually with strangers). Both special needs behaviors can and should diminish in time with an experienced owner, as she gains stability. Dog trainers and veterinarians can also share tips to help her on...

Basset Hounds like me need regular ear and eye cleaning.

Update: Duke was adopted on October 16th! Duke is an exceptionally friendly youngster who needed us when his owners' home went into foreclosure. He is a handsome Basset Hound, neutered, and 2 years of age. Duke debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is reportedly housetrained, good with cats & dogs, and fine with kind children of all ages. Duke's only reported fault is that he must be left alone when he is eating (though we have no reports of biting, nipping or growling). Food aggression is not uncommon, particularly with dogs who have experienced extreme hunger or starvation earlier in their lives. Consulting a professional dog trainer or behaviorist should be helpful in tending to this behavior. Duke needs weekly ear and eye cleaning, so Basset Hound knowledge and/or experience is strongly preferred for his adoption.
