Before & After -- Virtue

Image
Virtue, now healing. Virtue, day of rescue. Virtue is now shaved down, eating premium food, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccines. Emotionally though, her healing will take much, much longer.    In addition to the extreme neglect, Virtue reportedly witnessed horrors that have traumatized her and resulted in a deep fear of people. Virtue is a Maltese & Toy Poodle mix, 8 years of age, and debuting for a hero adoption today at Nevada SPCA.    She is compatible with cats and dogs (and we believe she is likely to adjust best in a home with a big sister or brother dog).    When very fearful, she is nippy, so an experienced, adult-only home is essential for her continued progress.

I thought the world only offered me cruelty and suffering.

What a beautiful, extraordinary recovery Marlena has made!  She is a Miniature Poodle mix, 2 years young, a spayed girl, triumphantly debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  In January officers confiscated her from her previous home, where she was on a chain.  She was taken to another shelter that asked for our help because she was emaciated from starvation.  Marlena has gained weight, energy, and self-esteem.  She is good with other dogs too and more trusting of people.  Please help find her a responsible, loving forever home.

Before & after pictures of Blossom, a young Maltese debuting for adoption.

Blossom, debuting for adoption on July 31 Blossom, minutes after her rescue on July 27 A man found this petite, horrifically matted dog in Las Vegas near the I-95 freeway.  He assumed she was diseased, could barely tell her back from her front, and brought her to us for emergency care. Not only did her knotted coat block her eyesight, but she had similar obstacles to eating and going to the bathroom.  It would have been difficult for her to have survived much longer. One of our volunteers, Marlene, scooped her up and held her close despite all of the dirt and insects, and told her "You are safe now" and " Blossom is your new name". Now spayed and groomed, Blossom is a tiny, adorable angel, unrecognizable from the day of her rescue.  She is a Maltese, 2 years of age, triumphantly debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Blossom loves being held and reassured.  She soaks up all of the compliments and affection, and then asks for much more. She ...

Darian -- before & after -- angelic puppy rescued during the extreme Vegas heatwave.

Image
Darian, July 10 Darian, just hours after his rescue It was one of the hottest days ever in Las Vegas, mid-afternoon, in the peak heat of the day.  A person noticed a small "ragged" dog panting heavily under a bush just outside a fast food restaurant. We got on the phone with the acting manager of the restaurant and pleaded with her to bring the dog inside until we could send someone.  She was very hesitant, worried the dog had rabies and bugs, but eventually agreed and put him in a box just inside the front door. A Nevada SPCA staff member retrieved him, gave him water and helped him cool and stabilize.  She then took him to a veterinary hospital for continuing care.  His ears and body were covered in ticks, leading the veterinary staff to speculate that he may have originally come from an area outside of southern Nevada. Now, several days later, Darian is groomed, neutered, and eating premium, probiotic dog food.  He can't believe all the attenti...

Flora's before & after pictures.

Image
Flora, on June 17, after her rescue. Flora's coat was so matted that it fused together, and was shaved off on in essentially one piece. Flora, on the afternoon of June 18. Sometimes the neglect is so unconscionable and extreme that we need to show you the before & after pictures of the rescued animals. Flora's "before picture" above does not completely convey how filthy and knotted she was yesterday.  We rushed her to a veterinary clinic, worried there were insects on her skin and in her coat.  The veterinarian determined that her jaw was broken long ago and healed lopsidedly, but functionally. Special thanks to Terri Harris, at Dewey Veterinary Medical Center, for spending much of the afternoon cleaning and shaving and grooming Flora. We expect Flora to be ready for adoption this week.  We want to find her a home where she never again feels worthless or forgotten.  From now on Flora needs only the best of human nature and the understanding ...

My mom and I just got the most important make-over ever.

Madge and Midge are believed to be mom and daughter.  These gentle girls were found on the streets in extreme condition from what must have been years of gross neglect.  They had ear infections and matted fur so filthy that you could not see their eyes, as well as dental problems that resulted in 31 extractions between the pair when we had their teeth cleaned.  But now that is all past and these delightful girls are set for a wonderfully bright future.  Please help us find someone who will shower them with love and cherish them.  Madge and Midge are Poodle mixes, 10 & 12 years of age, spayed girls, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.
