Leif

Leif , 7, the gentlest boy, deeply appreciates all kindness. He is mostly deaf and blind in one eye. Leif memorizes his surroundings and habitat easily, adjusting well and finding small joys throughout the day, including his "salad time" each afternoon with plentiful fresh greens. He is a Himalayan & Lionhead mix bunny, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA . Leif was found abandoned behind an industrial building in horrendous condition and with eye infections. He has made a beautiful recovery and awaits a compassionate hero to love in a forever home.

Tiny Tim, an incredibly lovable Olde English Bulldogge debuting for adoption.

Tiny Tim is 95 pounds of incredibly lovable sweetness, an Olde English Bulldogge debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Tiny Tim is exceptionally friendly, about 5 years of age and now neutered. He needed us due to his previous owners' financial hardship. Tiny Tim is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, good with children, and compatible with other dogs (except perhaps around food, though we have not witnessed any food aggression). We discovered that Tiny Tim is deaf, so the consistent use of hand signals and other body language is very important for communication with him.

Gabriel, a rescued Pomeranian -- an angel who needs a hero.

Image
Gabriel is a little angel who only asks for kindness and compassion.  He is a cream-white Pomeranian, about 8 years of age, a neutered boy, good with other sweet dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  At the time of rescue Gabriel was at another shelter that asked for our help because he needed dental care.  He had been surrendered there because his previous family had "no time for him".  Besides providing Gabriel with the dental care he needed, we discovered he is deaf.  (His previous family had reportedly complained that he "runs away".)  Gabriel needs and deserves a hero.  Please help us find him someone who will cherish him and never fail him again.

Fancy, a young and exuberant blue-eyed American Bulldog debuting for adoption.

Fancy is a vibrant, enthusiastic girl who is elated every time she sees you!  We hope she never loses her immense joy for life.  Fancy is a blue-eyed American Bulldog, 1 year young, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She cannot hear you, so consistent use of hand signals is important for communication with her.  Dog training will help her channel her abundant energy into good behaviors.  We rescued Fancy from another shelter.  Please help us find Fancy a hero.

I need your help and patience adjusting to my new reality, please.

Bowie reportedly recently lost his hearing in full, causing him some anxiety.  Hand signals for communication, a stable lifestyle routine, and an understanding to not startle him are very important to help him continue to adjust.  Bowie is a stunningly attractive Australian Cattle Dog mix, about 5-6 years of age, neutered boy, now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Bowie is reportedly housetrained and loves his toys.  An experienced, adult-only home is needed for his continued progress.  Please help us find Bowie a hero.

I just need to be understood.

Dozer is terrific with people and he loves big, enveloping hugs.  He is a handsome white Boxer, about 5 years of age, neutered, housetrained, good with mature kids, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Dozer has three special challenges and we ask for your help in finding this loving sweetheart a hero.  First, he is deaf and the consistent use of hand signals with him is needed.  (He already knows several signals.)  Second, he cannot be around any other dogs.  Third, he reportedly has at least mild separation anxiety (but does better, according to his previous owner, when he is wearing a Thundershirt).

Your body language is very important to me.

Rocky is a very kind young boy who likes to cuddle and be close to you.  He enjoys playing fetch and he is reportedly housetrained.  Rocky is reportedly a Bully & Retriever mix, medium-size, 1 year of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Like many other blue-eyed dogs with white coats, he is deaf.  Please use consistent hand signals with Rocky and take extra precautions puppy-proofing your home for his safety.  Rocky needed us because of his previous owner's home foreclosure.

Greta awaits a hero.

"Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" Surely the answer is Greta , a blue-eyed angel with a heavenly temperament, a magical blend of breeds including Weimaraner, a spayed girl of just 2 years of age. She loves people and other dogs. She is completely deaf, so use consistent hand signals to communicate with her. These brand new portraist from Pet'ographique to help Greta find a forever home are phenomenal! Please visit Nevada SPCA and ask for Greta by name.

I need a hero.

Shaq is a warm, noble older boy with a heart of gold. But he began getting temperamental as he was losing his sight and hearing, making him a bit unpredictable for a time. His adjustments are doing better now and he is less afraid of the changes happening to him.  He is mostly blind and deaf, but responds well to touch.  Staff, volunteers, volunteer trainers and veterinarians have all helped, and we feel he is now ready for adoption, provided that his progress can continue in his new home. Shaq is a small, handsome Chow Chow, neutered, about 10 years of age. He is compatible with most dogs and he is reportedly housetrained and fine with cats too.  Please plan on regular brushing and grooming.  An adult-only home is needed for him for the reasons stated above. Please ask for Shaq by name when you visit.

I am a senior who needs a second chance, please.

Update: Happy was adopted on December 11th! Another shelter contacted us when Happy was surrendered to them and asked us to consider taking her because of her advanced age. Jolly despite losing her home, and her hearing -- she is deaf or nearly deaf -- we decided we certainly had to make room for Happy so that we could find her a loving home where she can live the rest of her life in dignity. Today she debuts for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  She is a Beagle and Terrier mix, spayed female, about 13 years old.  Her teeth are now cleaned and she is on weight maintenance food (because she is beyond pleasantly plump). Happy adores people and dogs.  She is gentle and mellow, and we believe she can fit well into most leisurely lifestyles with ease.   Please give her serious consideration.  While we do not know whether she has several months to live, or several more years, every day is precious.

It is not my fault that I am losing my hearing.

Update: Calvin was adopted on November 6th! Calvin was surrendered to another shelter because he is deaf, or nearly deaf.  That shelter asked us to take Calvin to help find him a special needs home, and we happily agreed. He is a mellow, sweet older boy, at least 8 years of age.  He is a Cocker Spaniel, neutered, and his teeth have been cleaned and his ears flushed. Calvin is compatible with other dogs, plus he is reportedly housetrained.  He reportedly is aggressive with cats though. His loss of hearing is apparently rather recent, so he needs an experienced, patient owner who will work out a series of hand signals for him for good communication.   For example, we teach deaf dogs that a "thumbs up" means all is well and we are happy with him/her.  Then, our staff and volunteers walk by the dog's kennel and flash the thumbs up sign throughout the day. Please visit and ask for Calvin by name.  He needs a hero.

I cannot hear your words, but I can easily read your body language.

Update: Lily was adopted on January 21st! Tiny, yet theatrical, Lily is as adorable as they come, completely precious. She is most likely a Shih-Tzu and Chihuahua mix, spayed female, about 3 months of age. We expect her to remain small in size. Lily was surrendered to us because she is deaf. Please only consider her if you are fully committed to her for her entire life and you are willing and able to learn and use consistent hand signals to communicate with her. Also, Lily will need you to take extra careful precautions puppy-proofing your home and yard for her safety and protection. Lily debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Stay consistent with hand signals so that I can understand you.

Update: Louie Louie was adopted on March 2nd! Louie Louie is a very affectionate youngster with a beautiful spirit. He is a snow white Italian Greyhound, neutered male, about 2 years of age. He debuts today for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Louie Louie is good with other dogs, and reportedly fine with older, mature kids (though he can be skittish with new people). He is deaf and the difficulty of training and caring for a hearing-impaired dog is the reason he lost his home. We believe he will be a quick learner. He is anxious for reassurance and eager to please you. But consistent hand signals are a necessity so that you can communicate with him as needed throughout the day. Please only consider Louie Louie if you are 100% committed to giving him the care he needs and learning hand signals. Louie Louie is reportedly partially housetrained (with a doggie door), but will need your good guidance to complete housetraining. He may do best with another dog in the home to help him adjust an...

Let's learn lots of new hand signals together.

Update: Buddy was adopted on October 23rd! Buddy is a very fun-loving, handsome, and sometimes goofy boy with an outgoing personality. He is a white Boxer, neutered male, approximately 5-6 years of age. Besides being housetrained and crate-trained, Buddy is reportedly fine with most other dogs, including smaller dogs, and compatible with most cats. Boxer knowledge and/or experience is strongly preferred. Buddy is deaf (or almost completely deaf). He knows two hand signals (for "sit" & "stay") and his new owner will need to work on additional, consistent signals to aid in communication with him. He is reportedly fine with older, mature children, but he lost his home because there was a child in the home who was not treating him kindly. Buddy debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

I miss my mommy.

Foghorn needed rescue when his owner died. He is an exceptionally handsome, snow-white medium-hair with gold speckled eyes. He is neutered and approximately 5 years of age. Foghorn is deaf. Please be sure to take extra precautions to safe-proof your home for his protection. He loves being pampered and needs periodic brushing and coat care. He also enjoys finding high places to nap and nestle, so we suggest a full-size cat tree with a perch on top, or otherwise making a special space for him on a high ledge or dresser. Foghorn has an independent spirit, but he also has times when he wants and needs your attention and reassurance. He is ready for adoption today in Nevada SPCA's free-roaming Cat Condo playrooms. Please ask for him by name.

Please learn hand signals with me.

Update: Ginger Anne was adopted on May 21st! Ginger Anne is a beautiful jewel, inside and out. She is a Bull Terrier, spayed female, two years young, and she adores people. She is deaf and reportedly prone to ear infections. We have mixed reports on whether she has the slightest of hearing or has no hearing at all. Regardless, she needs an owner willing to take the extra precautions to keep her home & yard environments safe for her. Beyond puppy-proofing the house for her, this also includes good communication, beginning with consistent hand signals and body language. The staff and trainers can give you tips to explore and research this further. Ginger Anne debuts in Adoptions today. She is fine with mature and kind children and she is reportedly housetrained. Bull Terrier knowledge and/or experience is required for her adoption. Please come meet this sweet angel.
