Can't joy and love and grace find me?

Image
The pain you can see in BJ's face is heartbreaking.  He doesn't yet know he is safe, nor does he fully believe yet that people can be predominantly kind.  We don't how long BJ endured the cruelty before being dumped at another shelter.  But he didn't qualify for adoption there because he was nippy and fearful of new people.  Nevada SPCA rescued him and BJ debuts for adoption today.  BJ is a petite Poodle & Terrier mix, about 5 years of age and neutered.  He is a sensitive boy and his loving potential is enormous.  BJ feels most at ease with other dogs around, so a big brother dog or big sister dog may help his soul heal faster.  Experienced, adult-only home needed.  Please help us find BJ a hero, ensuring that he only knows the best of human nature from now on.

I still have faith because more people are kind than cruel.

Moses is a wise, noble, heavenly senior who still believes in the goodness of people even after being abandoned in the desert.  He was found and transported to another shelter, which in turn requested Nevada SPCA's help because he had ear and eye infections and a severely matted and neglected coat.  Moses is now well, groomed, and feeling chipper, eager to start his new life.  He is a Cocker Spaniel, about 10 years of age, neutered, and good with other dogs.  Please help us find Moses a loving, forever home where he never again experiences ultimate rejection or cruelty.

Please shield me from further hate, ignorance, and cruelty.

Once Emily trusts you, she is glued to your side, as your kind presence helps her believe she can live in a world free of any further violence and cruelty.  A monster wounded her soul with hitting and screaming, but her spirit will bloom in a stable, experienced, gentle home environment.  Emily is a lovely Cocker Spaniel, 2 years young, spayed girl, ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Emily is good with other dogs, reportedly crate-trained, and needs regular professional grooming.  Please help find a hero for Emily so she only sees the best of human nature from now on.

Why was rage and hate directed at me?

Miranda is a very sensitive, beautiful girl who is worried someone will strike her or scream at her. Miranda has been the victim of abuse, which likely caused the old injury to her back left leg that results in occasional limping. But she is drawn to very soft-spoken people (especially if they use “baby-talk”) and she will take baby steps toward you slowly as she begins to trust you and your intentions. Please help us find her a hero. She is a medium-size Australian Shepherd & Border Collie mix, approximately 5 years of age.   We rescued Miranda from another shelter. She is good with other dogs.  In fact, another dog in the home may help her adjust.

Via Spiga, a baby guinea pig found in a shoebox by a dumpster.

Image
At the time of rescue this baby girl was in a shoebox by a dumpster at an apartment complex.  She was in horrific condition from severe neglect.  We named her Via Spiga .  Now, many weeks later, she has recovered beautifully (physically and emotionally), under veterinary supervision, and she triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Via Spiga is a petite, angelic Abyssinian mix guinea pig, approximately 6-8 months of age.  Please ask for Via Spiga by name in our Lovebugs Room and show her only the best of human nature from now on.

Can't I live indoors in safety and comfort?

Mena is a petite, captivating girl with soft blue eyes and she is now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  A gentle home is best for her, indoors-only, of course.  Mena's previous owner kept her outdoors and she was so neglected that besides all of the grime and dirt in her coat, two of her claws had grown so long they had circled and torn into her paws.  When they dumped her they brought her in a shabby box that she quickly escaped from, and then she hid under a dumpster, terrified.  Mena is a gorgeous Tortie Point Siamese, about 6 years of age, spayed, and best-suited for a calm lifestyle.

You can help me realize my full loving potential.

Chewy is a very endearing young boy who loves his doggie beds and belly rubs.  But his soul has been wounded from abuse and neglect, so we ask for your help in finding him a hero.  Trust will take time and patience in an experienced, stable, adult-only home.  Chewy is an attractive Lhasa Apso, 18 months of age, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is afraid of mops and brooms, loud people, unfamiliar men, young kids, and people who reach at him quickly.  Volunteers have helped him feel more secure and his progress needs to continue in his forever home.  Chewy has enormous potential!

I need a hero, please.

Thor has seen the wicked side of humans, so he carefully looks at and assesses people to determine if they intend him any harm.  He so badly wants to believe in people, so once he trusts, you are golden in his eyes.  Thor is a very handsome Rottweiler, 2 years young, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is reportedly housetrained and picky about other dogs.  Rottweiler knowledge is needed for his adoption.  Please help Thor find his hero so he never again has to worry that cruelty will come his way.

My bruises healed, but my heart still aches.

Patrick's soul is wounded from abuse.  He flinches if you reach near his head.  He has learned, so cruelly, that hands can hit.  But Patrick is also learning from volunteers and staff that hands can soothe and comfort.  Patrick is now ready for a loving, forever home where his progress can continue, and he will keep emerging from his shell as he builds self-esteem and trust.  Patrick is a handsome, tuxedo Bully mix, 5 years of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued this sweetheart from another shelter.  Please help find Patrick a hero.

I spent years of my precious life on a chain.

Jellybean is an exceptionally sweet boy with a colorful personality and he is now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He is a handsome Border Terrier mix with copper eyes, about 7 years of age, neutered, and compatible with dogs and mature children.  At the time of rescue he was living outdoors, 24/7, on a chain, which is recklessly dangerous and cruel.  Jellybean now has a chance to find a loving, forever home where he will be welcomed indoors as a cherished member of the family.

You're looking at my soul. Please help me.

Many of our volunteers and staff have welled up with tears just seeing the torment in Lucy's eyes.  You know that she trusted and unconditionally loved the people who hurt her, and then dumped her, so the world does not make sense and she understandably feels lost.  We're grateful she is giving humans one more chance.  Lucy so badly wants to believe in people again.  Some progress is being made and she is flinching less when we reach for her.  Lucy is remarkably gentle, despite all she has endured.  She is a small Bully mix, about 4 years of age, spayed girl, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued her from another shelter.  Lucy has come so far and we cannot let her down.  Please help Lucy find someone who will love her forever and shield her from evil.

I am not trash.

Mr. Foster is a polite, refined, and mature gentleman who would love to become your household butler.  He is a tuxedo-clad shorthair, 10 years of age, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Mr. Foster gets along well with other cats and asks humbly for so little, just love and peace and comfort and fresh food & water.  He was almost the victim of unconscionable tragedy.  A volunteer found him crying in a crate at the foot of a large dumpster.  Please help us find Mr. Foster the loving home he deserves, assuring him that he can avoid human evil from hereafter.

I am trying to understand the world again.

At the time of rescue Reuben was found in the flood basin/wash. He was extremely matted and filthy, but probably just recently abandoned because he would not survive the coyotes there for long.  The physical improvements came easiest -- shaving him completely down and putting him on premium food -- but the emotional healing will take time and patience.  Reuben is gentle, and his spirit is reviving. We look forward to the day when Reuben will be light-hearted and very relaxed.  Reuben is a Toy Poodle, about 5 years of age, good with other dogs, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

I am a treasure, not a piece of trash.

Pookus is a handsome lovebug who loves to catnap by windows, bathed in sun rays.  He is a golden brown tabby & white shorthair, neutered boy, about 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Pookus is one of five cats found by a volunteer stuffed inside a single cage and thrown away beside a dumpster.  (All five survived and are becoming available for adoption as we get them spayed/neutered and prepared.)  Pookus is blessed with an easy-going personality and just wants love and kindness and to live indoors only in safety from now on.

The past fades and I am focused on a bright future.

Gunny's spirit is soaring! He has realized within a few weeks here that people are capable of kindness and he cherishes his playtime now with the volunteers. Chasing balls and squeaky toys brings a huge smile to his face. Gunny is a very good-looking Bully mix, about 1 year young, neutered boy, ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He has done well with other dogs we have introduced him to so far. Please adopt Gunny and continue to prove to him that his trust in humans is justified.

What does being loved feel like?

Image
Guy is very timid and sensitive.  He shows signs of never being loved, as he has no self-esteem and worries that every new person he meets will start screaming at him.  His previous owner said the reason he surrendered him was: "Can't stand him".  Guy was made to live outdoors, apparently without toys. But this handsome young Chocolate Labrador Retriever is about to have a grand awakening!  Gentle care and patience will help him reach his full loving potential.   Guy is 18 months young, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Why did they mess with perfection?

Image
Wisteria was naturally perfect, the way God intended her, yet someone dyed her ears and tail purple. It's a real shame because it will take months for the dye to come out.  Worse, her previous owner was breeding her for puppies and she was found with no sign of responsible ownership (no tags or microchip ID).  Wisteria deserves better, and with your help we'll find her an amazing home.  Wisteria is a Maltese & Shih-Tzu mix, spayed girl, about 4 years of age, good with dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Melody's amazing recovery & survival from an attempted beheading.

We are so proud of this baby girl, who we named Melody , and the foster mom who heroically helped save her.    Melody delights in crawling up on your chest and nuzzling your face gently.  She is a sleek shorthair, now 5 months of age, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.    At the time of rescue, we thought someone had tried to behead her, as she had an enormous open wound around her entire neck.  She had a tight rubber band around her neck -- cruelty her veterinarian said was one of the worst he had ever seen.  After we had the rubber band carefully and entirely removed at a veterinary hospital, Marcia , who was Melody’s foster mom, kept warm compresses on her neck and cleaned the wound twice daily.  Now, the blue stitches you see in the picture are Melody’s stitches from having the wound closed up.  She is healing beautifully and ready for a bright, loving future with someone who will cherish her every day and kee...

Jazzy's dark days are over and he is ready for a loving, bright future.

Jazzy sparkles with joy and dazzles us with his amazing smile.  We love his sunny personality.  He is a Yellow Labrador Retriever mix, about 7 years of age, neutered, great with dogs and people, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is recovering beautifully from a horrific past.  He was one of the two dogs living in deplorable conditions at an abandoned home who had been the victim of tazering, as featured on 8 News Now TV on January 12th.  He was transferred to us from another shelter to address his medical needs (and the other dog was also transferred to a reputable rescue group).  Jazzy is ready to experience what a loving home feels like!

Bisco deserved better!

Image
A veterinarian witnessed someone throwing this gorgeous boy out of a car behind a veterinary clinic.  Fortunately, he was not injured, and he joined us at Nevada SPCA to find someone who will love and cherish him, and never discard him again.  We named him Bisco and he is a Lynx Point Siamese with crossed blue eyes, and he is now about 18 months young and neutered.  Bisco prefers to be the only cat, so please be sure to ask for Bisco by name when you visit.
