Brick & Maggie

Image
Brick & Maggie are devoted soul-mates. We rescued them from another shelter so they can remain together forever. Brick is a Cinnamon mix, neutered boy, 1 year. Maggie is a beautiful blend of many bunny breeds, spayed girl, 1 year of age too. They are always happy at each others' sides, especially when getting ear rubs or their daily hearty salad bowls. Brick & Maggie (named after characters in a Tennessee Williams story) are awaiting adoption in the Lovebugs Room at Nevada SPCA.

Lovebugs Bunny Adoption Special through Valentine's Day!

Image
Through Valentine's Day on February 14, adoption fees on pairs of bunnies, as well as single rabbits, are substantially reduced in order to encourage people to consider welcoming these most gentle and kind of animals into their loving, forever homes. Each rescued bunny for adoption is spayed/neutered and micro-chipped.  In addition, they go home in temporary carriers with a starter supply of Timothy hay, their most important food source. During the Lovebugs Bunny Adoption Special , the adoption fee for a rabbit is only $20.  Better yet, the total adoption fee for a pair of bonded rabbits is only $20 (just $10 each). Of the 102 rescue bunnies for adoption at Nevada SPCA, 56 already have soul-mates (28 pairs) and these pairs need to be adopted together.  Rabbits, like people, are social animals and generally do best with others of their kind. If you have a single rabbit already, and he/she is spayed/neutered and needs a lifelong friend, then we encou...

Please let me always be with my mommy.

Priscilla and Rutherford are mother and son, affable and enthusiastic bunnies who need a loving, forever home together.  They were rescued from a box, abandoned in some shrubbery in a schoolyard.  Both are now spayed/neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA in the Lovebugs Room. Priscilla is the black-and-white English Spot mix, under 2 years of age. Her son, Rutherford , has a rich orange color and he is about 7 months of age.  Please visit and ask for them by name.  This beautiful portrait is courtesy of the compassionate people at Pet'ographique .

Snugs & Magellan

Image
Snugs & Magellan , in a beautiful portrait courtesy of Pet'ographique to help them find a loving, forever home. Snugs & Magellan are completely devoted to one another, plus they have more than enough affection left over for you. Snugs is a gorgeous Lionhead rabbit, spayed girl, 5 years of age. Magellan is a handsome Agouti rabbit, neutered boy, 3 years young. These soul-mates needed us when their previous owners divorced. Please ask for Snugs & Magellan by name in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.

Amelia Earhart & Ladybird -- beautiful young bunnies, soul-mates.

Image
Amelia Earhart Amelia Earhart & Ladybird Amelia Earhart & Ladybird Ladybird Amelia Earhart & Ladybird are beautiful young bunnies, soul-mates to remain together forever.  Both are spayed and 2 years of age.  Amelia Earhart is a Lop and Ladybird is a Cinnamon & Dutch mix.  Both girls are affectionate, with Amelia Earhart a bit more outgoing and Ladybird more on the shy side, at least initially.  Please come meet them in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.   These professional portraits are courtesy of Pet'ographique to help them find loving, forever homes.

Blue-eyed Baby Boys

Image
Dartmouth Bowie Dartmouth and Bowie are social, friendly, cute baby boys ("kits") who would love a forever home where they are showered with attention and loving care. They appear to be combinations of multiple breeds, including Hot Tot & New Zealand & Dutch.  They are neutered, about 5-6 months of age. At the time of rescue these two boys and 8 other bunnies had been stuffed inside a small bird cage and abandoned.  Fortunately, all 10 rabbits survived. Dartmouth and Bowie can be adopted separately, but please consider adopting them together for lifelong companionship and love.

My heart is as soft as my fur.

We love Busby Berkeley's placid demeanor. Gentle and content, he adores attention from kind people. Busby Berkeley is a handsome Lop, neutered boy, about 18 months young. Besides his daily salad greens, he fancies shredded wheat treats (which are safe when natural and not coated in sugar). He needed us when his previous family surrendered him without explanation. Please ask for Busby Berkeley by name in Nevada SPCA's Lovebugs Room.

I belong indoors to be safe and loved.

During this long economic crisis we have rescued countless domesticated bunnies from parks. Releasing unwanted rabbits into parks is tragic on many levels.  Unable to survive on their own, many of them starve or are struck by vehicles as they leave the parks searching for someone to care for them. Also, releasing unwanted rabbits into parks can attract coyotes looking for easy meals, which may then affect neighborhood cats and dogs. Burbank's hungry, frightening days in a park are over.  She is now spayed and we intend to find her an indoor-only home where she is treated as a member of the family. Burbank is an exceptionally beautiful Satin rabbit with waves of soft brown and gold coloring, just a bit over one year of age. She is meek and shy, especially with strangers, so an experienced and gentle home is needed for her.

We were jumping for joy after we were rescued.

Maggie and Hedy Before dawn one morning a few weeks ago, our security guard found a small parakeet cage by our front door, completely stuffed full with 10 baby bunnies ("kits").  They were jammed in so tight, on top of one another, they could barely even wiggle. We were so worried the ones at the bottom had been crushed, but they somehow escaped injury.  All 10 -- 5 girls and 5 boys -- survived.  As soon as we set them up in bunny condos, they were ecstatically munching Timothy Hay and fresh veggies and drinking fresh water in obvious delight, jumping and racing about in joy and relief. Our best guess, based on the reckless cruelty of their abandonment, and the fact that some were New Zealand Whites, was that they were being raised for food, either for people or snakes.  (Sometimes friends and family members of owners who eat rabbits will rescue them and bring them to us.) Maggie and Hedy are two of the girls who are now spayed and ready for adoption into ...

Being able to stay together would be a dream-come-true.

Valentina, Clancy, and Fawn These adorable little heartbreakers are full of adolescent bunny energy and curiosity.  They are easy to handle, friendly thanks to socialization with our staff and volunteers. The siblings are Lionhead and Dwarf mix rabbits, spayed/neutered, about 6 months of age so they are still considered "kits" (baby bunnies).  Clancy is a boy and Valentina and Fawn are his sisters. The three LOVE being together.  We always find them cuddling close, bonding, concerned about one another.  We prefer seeing them adopted together as a trio .   But we are open to a pair going home as long as the third finds a home with another bunny who he or she can bond with too. At the time of rescue they were out on the streets, confused and lost, their mother probably killed trying to raise them outdoors.  From now on, an indoor-only lifestyle is essential. Their portrait is courtesy of Pet'ographique .

All I ask for is kindness.

We received a report that a local breeder had dumped some rabbits in a park who he had failed to sell as Easter holiday gimmicks.  This was in July.  One of our staff members rushed to the park and she was able to find and capture four of them. Mulholland is one of those four and he is still a baby, about 10 months of age.  He is a super cute Dutch & Dwarf mix bunny.  We have been working with Mulholland for several months now and he is getting better with people.  Every day he seems a bit less terrified, though it is clear this boy has never before received loving care and socialization. We had him neutered and he is now ready for adoption.  His progress with trusting people will need to continue in his new home, so an experienced owner is needed. Domesticated rabbits like Mulholland have no chance for survival on their own outdoors.  Dangers for them come not just from our extreme weather climate, but from coyotes, birds of prey, dogs,...

Is there room for an artistic little boy like me in your life?

Don't even try to resist the great charm of Tennessee Williams , a young Rex bunny available for adoption at Nevada SPCA. We love his inquisitive nature and how he craves gentle ear rubs and fresh daily greens and veggies. Tennessee Williams has come a long way in a short time.  He is friendly and healthy now, but at the time of rescue he was struggling to survive on his own in a golf course, in poor condition and infested with ticks. Please visit our new Lovebugs Room and ask for him by name.  He is one of 90 rescued, spayed/neutered bunnies awaiting loving, forever homes.

Being together keeps our outlook sunny and colorful.

Spencer Tracy & Katherine Hepburn Update: Spencer Tracy & Katherine Hepburn were adopted on November 24th! Staff and volunteers were so impressed with this classically attractive and sweet pair that they selected Spencer Tracy & Katherine Hepburn for their names to emphasize their powerful lifelong bond. They are Dutch rabbits with stunning coloring, spayed/neutered, and approximately 5 years of age. Spencer Tracy & Katherine Hepburn enjoy relaxing in their deluxe-size condo or playing together in a bunny-safe enclosure.  (Our staff can talk with you about making sturdy enclosures that give them freedom each day, indoors-only of course, and keep them away from electrical cords.) The pair needed us when their previous owner moved away without them. Please visit Nevada SPCA's new Lovebugs Room and ask for these two by name.

Please do not mistake me for an "Easter bunny".

Image
Update: Jackie-O was adopted on November 23rd! An elegant, refined lady, our staff named her Jackie-O after rescuing her from another shelter. She is a gorgeous English Spot mix, spayed, 2 years of age, shy at first but warm-hearted with gentle people she trusts. We believe Jackie-O may make a wonderful companion with a neutered male bunny or another spayed female.  If you have a rabbit (already spayed/neutered) who needs a friend, then please contact us and we'll have a "bunny date" in our new Lovebugs Room. We do not have much background on Jackie-O, but we are still seeing huge numbers of rabbits who were purchased at stores and from breeders before Easter losing their homes on a constant basis.  The gimmick of selling "Easter bunnies" results in countless homeless domesticated rabbits each year, because these temporary homes are doomed from the start.  Adoption is forever, so we seek only those willing and able to make lifetime commitments to compan...

I am finding that people can be kind and fun.

We are very proud of Cagney's progress since joining us a few months ago. He is a very handsome Mini Rex rabbit with stunning coloring, neutered male, about 2 years young. Initially, he wanted nothing to do with people, and tried to nip at us when we approached him. But now he anticipates affection from those he trusts with a warm heart, and enjoys climbing and exploring in The Cottontail Cottage play area. Cagney's improvements will need to continue in his new home, so adults only are still required to err on the safe side for bite prevention. Please visit our new Lovebugs room and ask for Cagney by name.  He is one of almost 90 rescued, spayed/neutered bunnies for adoption today.

I am a baby who seeks a loving future with a committed family.

Please come fall in love with baby Vanderbilt . He is a Mini Lop, about 8 months of age, now neutered and ready for adoption in Nevada SPCA's new Lovebugs adoption room. Vanderbilt has a placid demeanor, but he is also inquisitive and cherishes your gentle attention. He is one of 11 Mini Lop rabbits we recently rescued from another shelter. Like all domesticated bunnies in our desert climate, Vanderbilt needs an indoor-only home for his comfort and safety.

They say I am a little masterpiece in my own right.

Chagall is just as cute on the inside as his dashing exterior. He is loving and engaging, but seems content with occasional solitude. Chagall is most likely a Hotot and English Spot mix. He is neutered and about one year young. We rescued him from another shelter, presumably another victim of the annual Easter gimmick (whereby rabbits are sold by breeders for a quick buck and then discarded within weeks or months afterward). Please visit our new Lovebugs adoption for rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, and hamsters, and ask for this sweetheart by name. He is one of 90 rescued, spayed/neutered bunnies awaiting new, caring lifelong homes.

We are social animals, so having a soul-mate is priceless.

Update: Hank & Talulah were adopted on October 8th! We try every day to dispel the myth of the lone rabbit who wants to live alone in a small cage. Most bunnies are very social and do best with a life partner, including Hank & Tallulah . At the time of their rescues, Hank was living in a car in the sweltering heat, and Tallulah was at another shelter. After their rescues, their foster mom carefully bonded them together after they were spayed and neutered, and they took to each other instantly. We often find them now cuddled up together. Both are about 2 years young. Hank is a Rex, neutered male, and Tallulah is a Dutch & Harlequin mix spayed female. Beyond their strong bond for one another, this friendly pair has plenty of love to share with you too. Please visit and ask for them today in our new Lovebugs Room for rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, and hamsters.

It is important that I live safely indoors with you.

Update: Wyler was adopted on September 24th! Wyler is one of 11 Mini Lop rabbits we recently rescued from another shelter. He is a curious, gregarious youngster, full of confidence and zest for life. Wyler is neutered, about a year of age, and ready for adoption today. Please visit our new Lovebugs adoption room for bunnies and other small animals, and ask for him by name. The room is adjacent to the lobby -- the first place you will see when you enter the headquarters. Domesticated rabbits cannot handle the desert heat. Please be sure to keep Wyler and all other bunnies strictly indoors, not just for their comfort but for their survival too.

I wish people knew how loving and sweet rabbits like me can be.

What an angel! Capote is an inquisitive, gentle baby boy ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. He is a Mini Lop rabbit, neutered, approximately 8 months of age. Capote is one of 11 bunnies we recently rescued from another shelter. He loves to stretch out to get supremely comfortable. Our staff can show you how to simply and inexpensively build a larger habitat for him -- a bunny condo with a loft ledge -- like the ones we have here. Our new Lovebugs adoption room for rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, and hamsters is helping showcase species who often get overlooked in shelters. It is wonderful to see more people appreciating these species and finding out that, like cats and dogs, they have individual personalities and are capable of great love. Please visit and ask for him by name.
