Baby Gretchen, July 2013 Baby Gretchen, now named Nilla Wafer, July 2013 Baby Gretchen being watched over by big sister Maxine Maxine and Baby Gretchen You may remember Baby Gretchen , the newborn (1 week old) rescued in the spring with very severe lacerations to her hind left leg.  During an emergency surgery, an advanced medical care clinic in Las Vegas was able to save her life and amputate her leg. Baby Gretchen has since been in a very loving foster home with a foster mom, Jennifer, and a big sister, Maxine.  In June, we shared Jennifer's video of Baby Gretchen in a life vest, swimming in her pool to strength her other three legs (please see the video again below). Baby Gretchen has now been adopted by her foster mom! Jennifer says that Baby Gretchen (now named Nilla Wafer) loves to charge out from under the bed to play with Maxine, then dash back under.  She also loves playing hide-and-seek in the backyard. Maxine and Baby Gretchen ...

My bruises healed, but my heart still aches.

Patrick's soul is wounded from abuse.  He flinches if you reach near his head.  He has learned, so cruelly, that hands can hit.  But Patrick is also learning from volunteers and staff that hands can soothe and comfort.  Patrick is now ready for a loving, forever home where his progress can continue, and he will keep emerging from his shell as he builds self-esteem and trust.  Patrick is a handsome, tuxedo Bully mix, 5 years of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued this sweetheart from another shelter.  Please help find Patrick a hero.

I had lost the will to live.

The liveliness in Casey's eyes is particularly magnificent in light of her near tragedy.  This valiant young girl -- a medium-size Labrador Retriever mix, 2 years of age, and spayed -- debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  At the time of rescue Casey was at another shelter that asked for our help to rehabilitate her from starvation.  Casey was emaciated and her eyes were dead.  With veterinary guidance we fed her frequent, small special meals, which she devoured with abandon.  Volunteers helped keep her spirits up and appetite healthy and her progress continued week-after-week.  Now up 8 pounds and with renewed zest for life, Casey is ready to make her mark on the world and bless a person, couple, or family with her unconditional devotion.

Will you please take me home?

Brewster loves being cradled in your arms when you give him belly rubs.  He is a very attractive Pekingese, 7 years of age, neutered boy, now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Brewster is reportedly housetrained and crate-trained.  He is shy with strangers and believed to have been previously abused.  Brewster gets along with most dogs, but can get testy and irritable around other dogs at times.  The injury that cost him his left eye is believed to be the result of a bite from another dog.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this sweet portrait to help him find a loving, forever home.

Oso, a rescued Akita debuting for adoption.

Image
No longer in pain, it has been wonderful to watch Oso's playful and friendly spirit emerge.  He loves to stand or sit leaning into you for reassurance and bonding.  Oso is a handsome Akita, about 5 years of age, neutered boy, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  At the time of rescue his right eye was severely bulging and in danger of bursting, causing him great distress.  Akita knowledge is strongly preferred for his adoption.  Please help us find a hero for Oso .

Will you return my unconditional devotion?

Wolf is a sensitive, devoted youngster wonderfully suited for a gentle home environment.  He is a petite Chihuahua, 1 year of age, neutered boy, now ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Wolf is good with other dogs and reportedly knows how to use a doggie door.  Wolf goes home with his Thundershirt, which he loves, as it helps him feel secure.  (He is wearing a sweater vest in this picture while we washed his Thundershirt.)  Please help us find a terrific, loving, forever home for Wolf .

I lost my ears to trick a buyer?

Bebe is a contented, beautiful girl and she is well-behaved, gentle, and playful.  She is a blue, tan & white Staffordshire Terrier, 1 year young, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Bebe needed us when her previous owner passed away.  She loves other dogs and she is reportedly compatible too with cats and children, as well as housetrained and crate-trained.  We hate that someone cut her ears off, reportedly to sell her as a "Blue Razor Pitbull".  Personality certainly trumps breed designations, so it's a shame she was modified/maimed.  Please help Bebe find a wonderful, loving, forever home.

I want to watch you so I can understand you.

Autumn Rose is a 7-pound, wiggly sweetheart with an enthusiastic personality and she is debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is a small Terrier mix, about 5 years of age, and spayed.  Autumn Rose gets along very well with other sweet dogs and she is fascinated by people and their behaviors.  We were asked to rescue her from another shelter due to scarring on one of her back legs, which the veterinarian deemed an old injury from a trauma, such as being hit by a vehicle.  She sometimes favors the leg, but no medical attention is needed.  Autumn Rose may be tiny, but she has a big spirit and we hope you come meet and adopt her.

Buffalo and Maggie, rescued Boxers for adoption.

Image
Buffalo Maggie Buffalo and Maggie are two more of the 28 Boxers rescued from a breeder and they debut for adoption today at Nevada SPCA (www.nevadaspca.org).  (Regional rescue organizations worked together to save all 28 Boxers, 4 of whom came to Nevada SPCA.)  Both are shy, loving, and gentle, and need more socialization.  Buffalo is a neutered boy, about 4 years of age.  Maggie is a spayed girl, 2 years young.  Boxer knowledge is preferred for their adoption.  Please ask for them by name when you visit.

I'm ready for you. Take me home, please.

Salvador has earned new consideration by making great strides in behaving and trusting.  We are so proud of this little boy.  Salvador is a handsome Dachshund & Rat Terrier mix, about 6 years of age, neutered, good with cats & dogs, crate-trained, and available for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Volunteers have done beautifully with him and special thanks also goes to Pet'ographique for this terrific portrait to help Salvador find a loving, forever home.

The Poetry Puppies debut for adoption today.

Image
Haiku Sonnet Terza Rima These three gentle baby girls -- Haiku , Sonnet , and Terza Rima -- are lovingly nicknamed "The Poetry Puppies" and they debut for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  The sisters are small Terrier & Toy mixes, about 8 months of age, spayed, and tender-hearted in nature.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for their safety. They need more socialization so they can gain self-esteem and then their personalities will bloom and reach their full loving potential.  Calm home environments are ideal for these puppies.

They threw me away in the most dangerous of places.

Kassie is a majestic young girl who was running alongside a highway at the time of her rescue.  She had no sign of responsible ownership -- no ID tag, no microchip ID, and she was unspayed -- and her emotional distress suggested that she had been abandoned so cruelly and dangerously right on the highway.  Now, Kassie is calm and spayed and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is an intelligent, devoted, tri-color German Shepherd mix, about 2 years of age, and she is ready to give her whole heart to someone who will always honor (and never discard) her unconditional love.

As sweet as a rose!

Tudor is a lively, engaging young girl ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Please ask for her by name in the Lovebugs Room. She is a petite, Satin mix bunny, 1 year of age and now spayed.  Tudor needed us after she was abandoned in a neighborhood and crawled into someone's backyard looking for food and shelter.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for photographing her on a bed of roses to help her find a loving, forever, indoor-only home.

Please consider me. I am ready to love unconditionally.

Mama Mia is an enchanting girl patiently awaiting adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Her favorite toys are tennis balls and she sometimes does "happy dances" on her hind legs when she greets us.  Mama Mia is a Dachshund mix, about 3-4 years of age, spayed, housetrained, crate-trained, and great with other dogs.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for this elegant portrait to help Mama Mia win a loving, forever home.

I see the sunny side of life and people.

Starburst is an angelic, gorgeous, well-behaved girl with a colorful personality debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is a German Shepherd, about 6 years of age, spayed, and reportedly housetrained and compatible with mature kids and most dogs.  German Shepherd knowledge is strongly preferred for her adoption.  Starburst became homeless due to no fault of her own when her previous owners moved into a living situation where dogs are not permitted.

I am a wonderful listener too.

Kamara likes to chat softly with you throughout the day.  For such a gentle and docile girl, she has so much to say and she enjoys sharing her thoughts with you.  Kamara is a very kind black & white shorthair, 10 years of age and spayed, ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She gets along well with other cats and she is well-behaved.  Kamara's previous owners moved away and decided not to take her (for reasons of their own which we cannot understand or relate to).  Please help this graceful older girl get the loving home she deserves and needs.

Let me bring you warmth and love.

Dewy is a cheerful, elegant older girl who has one of those special smiles that makes everyone around her feel good and at ease.  She is a lovely German Shepherd mix, 10 years of age, now spayed and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Dewy is reportedly housetrained, crate-trained, and compatible with mature, older kids.  She lost her previous home because she reportedly did not get along with other dogs (but they had failed to have her spayed).  Please help Dewy find a wonderful, responsible, forever home.

Was it wrong to act like a puppy?

Image
Shivers is a comical, radiant baby boy debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is believed to be a mix of Shetland Sheepdog and Australian Shepherd, expected to remain small or grow only to medium size, about 6 months of age, neutered, and good with other friendly dogs.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety. Shivers needed us because he was reportedly scratching the young child in his previous home during playtime.  Puppies like Shivers need experienced homes with realistic expectations where they are allowed to be dogs, which includes playing like dogs, chewing like dogs, etc.  Please ask for Shivers by name when you visit.

I am a marvelous snuggler!

Honey Bear is a hearty, adorable, and very affectionate baby boy debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is a Corgi mix, expected to grow to medium size, about 6 months of age, neutered, and good with other friendly dogs.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety. Honey Bear loves to approach you by shuffling low and rushing into your lap. At the time of rescue this sweetheart was near one of the busiest intersections in Las Vegas with no sign of responsible ownership (no ID tags, no microchip ID, and not neutered).

The sweeter you speak, the more I listen.
