Crystal , betrayed with cruelty, worries about who she can trust.    She is terrified of people with loud voices, but crawls toward gentle and soft-spoken people and pleads for reassurance. Please help find Crystal a hero.    She is a medium-size blend of Yellow Labrador & Shar Pei, 2 years of age and spayed, housetrained, good with dogs (her size and larger), and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA .

Yosemite , a radiant Pomeranian, asks for a peaceful home where he will never be hurt again. He is 5 years of age, neutered, good with dogs, and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Yosemite was at another shelter that asked for our help due to his past abuse. He is terrified of someone picking him up or reaching for his face. If a very gentle person is patient with him, he will warm and let himself be brushed. Then, when trust develops, he likes rubbing his ears and face on that person's ankles, so happy he knows they are being kind and accepting. Since Yosemite can be nippy when fearful, an experienced, adult-only home is needed please.

Persephone , a 2-pound girl, has enormous loving potential.    But she is terribly afraid of hands because of past abuse. Even if you are holding her gently in your right hand, she is terrified your left hand will hurt her. Persephone needs a hero -- someone patient and gentle who will be patient and understanding.    She is a cream & white Chihuahua, 8 years of age and spayed, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.    We rescued Persephone from another shelter.

Albie is a sensitive Shih-Tzu who wants to believe in people and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Albie is afraid of hands, feet, newspapers, sticks, and objects he fears you may throw at him.    Strangers terrify him, then he is so relieved when he bonds with someone kind.    Albie was found out on the streets, so we can only imagine what he endured.    He is 6 years of age, good with cats and dogs, and now neutered.    Please help find Albie a gentle hero.

Corbin is about to bloom. He doesn't know it yet though. Underweight, terrified of fast hand motions, and confused about leashes, he has never experienced a loving home environment. We rescued Corbin from another shelter yesterday and he debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is a Labrador Retriever mix, 3 years young, neutered, and good with other dogs. Please help find a hero for Corbin .

Petunia is ready to believe in people again.  She trusts women much quicker than she does men and fast hand or foot movements near her are startling.  We don't know what Petunia has endured, but a violent past is beyond doubt.  She is an English Bulldog, 4 years of age and spayed, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  English Bulldog knowledge is needed for her adoption.  Petunia needs a one-dog household (she doesn't like other dogs) and someone who will patiently continue helping her improve, with a very stable and peaceful lifestyle.  We rescued her from another shelter that asked for our help.

Tommy is one of two dogs witnessed being abandoned in a wash. Staff and volunteers were eventually able to capture both of them. (The person who illegally abandoned them has not yet been caught.) The two dogs do not appear to be strongly bonded, so Tommy is going up for adoption today at Nevada SPCA and the second one is going up soon after recovering from surgery. Tommy is a Bully mix, 3 years young, neutered boy. Multiple signs point to a cruel past, including fear of quick movements and even missing teeth. But if you sit beside Tommy and talk in a soothing manner he first lays his head in your lap, then sneaks his paws on your legs too to get as close as he can to feel safe.  Please help find a hero for Tommy so that he only knows love and responsibility and peace from now on.

Noah is a solemn boy and his spirit is beginning to reawaken with kindness.  Noah was at another shelter that asked for our help.  He had numerous wounds, including a possible chemical burn.  Noah is an Australian Cattle Dog mix, 1 year young, neutered, good with other dogs, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Noah is so afraid of strangers that he flattens himself on the ground and only shuffle-walks.  But once he trusts you he will lift his head and begin to relax.  Please help us find a home where Noah will know only peace and stability from now on.

Ace , a handsome and hopeful Dachshund mix, is unrecognizable from when we rescued him 5 weeks ago.  A victim of abuse, he refused to let people touch him and his eyes were dulled, as if he had given up hope.  Ace is still afraid of strangers, but he's warming to people well and today he is able to debut for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Ace is 4 years of age, neutered, and good with other dogs.  Please help find an experienced home where his progress will continue and he reaches his full loving potential.

Dania is broken-hearted by the betrayal of her trust -- she is extremely head-shy and shows other signs of being abused -- but she wants and needs to believe in people.  She is a Great Dane, 120 pounds, spayed, 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued Dania from another shelter that asked for our help.  Upon meeting new people Dania holds her tail between her legs and quivers in fear.  But after several minutes of knowing someone is kind, her body relaxes, and her posture and energy change.  Please help us find Dania a hero to continue her emotional healing and to protect her from ever knowing violence again. 

When Melvin finds someone he trusts not to hurt him, he leans against them and never wants to leave their side.  Melvin is so terrified of being struck that it breaks our hearts, but we know his blooming has already begun and that this young boy will soon know a lifetime of joy and peace.  Melvin is a cream & white Smooth Collie & Retriever mix, 2 years of age and neutered, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  We rescued him from another shelter.  A big sister or brother dog may be ideal to help Melvin adjust and heal from his violent, cruel past.  Please share his pictures to help find him a hero.

Cheri does not yet understand that she is safe.  We could hardly photograph her this morning because our team kept taking turns hugging and kissing her with reassurance.  Cheri is so devastated from abuse that she won't walk on a leash, so we carry her everywhere she goes.  She is a small Labrador Retriever mix, 4 years of age, now spayed and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Cheri's past is mostly unknown.  We rescued her from another shelter and it appears her previous owner repeatedly bred her for puppies.  Please help find Cheri a hero.

It's not too late for 9-year-old Connor to finally realize what a stable, loving home feels like.  Emotionally, he is recovering from abuse.  Physically, he is challenged with arthritis and diminished vision and hearing.  The only thing known about his background is that an officer confiscated Connor from his previous home and took him to a government-funded shelter, which in turn asked for our help.  Connor likes other friendly dogs and he still believes in the goodness of people, though he warms slowly to strangers.  He is an Australian Shepherd mix, 9 years of age and neutered, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. There can be rich emotional rewards with adopting seniors and other animals with special challenges.  Will you please help us find Connor a hero?

Chico , an abuse survivor, is wary of new people.  But once he knows you are kind, and trustworthy, he deeply bonds with you and stares at you adoringly.  Chico wants to give his whole heart to someone who will never fail him and always keep him safe and at peace.  He is a Longhair Chihuahua, 7-8 years of age, good with other dogs, neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these terrific portraits to help him find a loving, forever home.

Escondido is large, handsome youngster, a boy with a Smooth Collie face and Borzoi-like body, 2 years of age, neutered, and ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He gets along beautifully with other dogs.  Escondido looks at people he trusts with complete adoration, like they're pure gold.  But he is very wary of strangers and we suspect he has been the victim of abuse.  Please help find Escondido an experienced, stable home where he can awaken to the certain knowledge that he will never be hurt again.

Hope needs a hero.  She reportedly came from a broken home, lost her right front leg (reportedly due to being struck by a car, but all that is known for certain is that she sustained massive trauma), and reportedly does not like men or children touching her.  Hope is a lovely Italian Greyhound mix, about 6 years of age, a spayed girl, ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  She is housetrained and good with other dogs.  Hope adores women and bonds strongly to those who are kind to her.  Special thanks to Pet'ographique for these exceptional portraits to help showcase Hope and find her the forever home she needs to reach her full loving potential.

Ashley still believes in human kindness despite what she has endured and she debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. She is a bright-eyed Bully mix, 1 year young and now spayed.  Ashley is reportedly housetrained and may be compatible with some dogs. The scarring on Ashley's face and body is consistent with reports of abuse by her previous owner (who was deported).  Her emotional healing is doing very well and we want to find her a responsible home where she will be showered with love.

Ferdinand now approaches you gently and put his paws on your knee asking for affection.  For the past 6 weeks volunteers and staff have done beautifully proving to him that humans can be kind and worthy of trust, helping him triumph over severe abuse.  He's come so far that he is now ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Ferdinand is a Terrier mix with extraordinary good looks that include a leonine mane and copper eyes, and he is 5 years of age, neutered, and good with other friendly dogs.  Please help Ferdinand find a gentle, forever home where his emotional healing will continue so he can reach his full loving potential.

We're so proud of Hugo and happy to see him holding his head up with confidence as he visits Pet'ographique for brand new portraits to help celebrate his progress overcoming fear and abuse.  We cannot applaud enough the dedicated volunteers who are working with rescued animals like Hugo to prove to them that humans can be kind and worthy of trust.  Hugo looks like a tiny, short-legged deer.  He is a Chihuahua, almost 4 years of age, neutered, good with other dogs, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.

Jewel wants to believe in people again and she has enormous loving potential.  She is desperate to connect with people, but her soul has been wounded by cruelty, so she hesitates.  Trust does not come easily for Jewel, but gets earned with time and patience, based on respect and kindness.  Jewel is an adorable Toy & Terrier mix, 2 years young, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is good with other dogs and will likely do best in a home with a big brother or big sister dog to help her adjust.  Jewel was found abandoned on the streets, terrified and abuse.  Please help us find her a hero.
