Very promising update on Liza!

Image
4 days later and Liza is gaining energy. Here she is, just minutes ago, being bottle-fed by her foster mom, Sonja. Some of you may recall Liza's post last week. After the rainstorms, a dog on a walk discovered Liza perilously caught in a crevice of a storm drain with eye infections so severe the scab tissue destroyed both of her eyes. Sonja says that Liza's blindness doesn't hinder her interest in exploring. Liza confidently crawls and walks on the bed and couch, while being supervised, enjoying the change of textures of blankets and cushions on her paws. She is enthusiastic about each meal and helps Sonja by holding the bottle too. Click here for Liza's original post.

Liza's remarkable will to live.

We want to share Liza -- an inspiring, blind, 10-day-old kitten rescued yesterday from a storm drain -- and tell you about her remarkable will to live. She's stolen the hearts of everyone here and her foster mom and others are doing everything possible for her survival. Liza was discovered after yesterday morning's rains by a dog who was going for a walk. The couple walking the dog said the kitten was in a crevice, appearing to be holding on so as not to wash down through t he grates of the drain. Liza's eyes were completely covered in an enormous scab of crusted infection. (We have Liza's before picture, but ultimately decided it is too graphic to post). Liza's foster mom, Sonja, is encouraged by her progress so far. Liza was resistant to the bottle yesterday, but increasingly reaches for it and accepts it. This picture, taken just minutes ago, shows how Liza is now holding the bottle with both hands. Thank you to Sonja and al...

Sonja , a petite (7 pounds) junior puppy with wonderful charm, debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  She is a Yorkshire Terrier mix, 10 months of age and spayed.  Sonja was at another shelter that asked for our help because she may be protective of her food from other dogs.  We feed Sonja separately from other dogs and she gets along with them very well.  Please puppy-proof your home and yard for her safety.
