Peep, a divine puppy who made an inspirational recovery.

Image
Peep is an entertaining, divine baby girl who loves to stare into your eyes.  She is a playful Shih-Tzu & Yorkshire Terrier mix puppy, 5 months of age, spayed, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  At the time of rescue Peep had severe and painful facial lesions from "puppy strangles" (juvenile cellulitis).  Following 6 weeks of treatment, she made a full recovery!  We celebrated her triumph with this gorgeous portrait, courtesy of Pet'ographique .  Peep is now ready to share her unconditional love and devotion with you for the rest of her life.

Joan's triumphant survival and recovery!

Image
We celebrated Joan's triumphant survival and full recovery with this beautiful portrait, courtesy of Pet'ographique. Joan is a wiggly, enthusiastic Shih-Tzu, spayed girl, 2 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. At the time of rescue Joan had severe head wounds above her eyes, which her veterinarian believed were caused by a coyote or dog attack.  We thought she had lost both eyes because of the way her torn skin appeared at the time. An exceptionally generous donor heroically paid for Joan's advanced medical care at a veterinary specialty clinic.  Joan has full function in both eyes and the permanent scarring looks like distinguished eyebrows. Joan is a treasure and now she is ready to bless someone special with her unconditional love.

Rebel - with a cause.

Image
Rebel's eyes say it all, don't they? The victim of abuse and neglect, his trust has been violated and he is not at all sure about the human race. But yet, he yearns to be loved and to share his devotion if he can find just the right, gentle person.  Rebel is a Shih-Tzu mix, neutered boy, 2 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is great with other dogs and needs regular grooming (note: we shaved away his knots and tangles, so his coat will grow long again).

Are you going to love me?

Finley is a Shih-Tzu mix puppy who needs to be showered with love and affection, and assured that he will never be neglected again.  We shaved this angel down and he is now unrecognizable from the way he looked at the time of rescue.  His matts and knots were so severe he was deaf because the tangles extended down his ear canals.  Finley can hear again now, and hope is springing into his eyes.  Finley is 10 months young, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Pick me up and snuggle with me.

Update: Lexington was adopted on February 7th! Lexington stands on his hind legs to make sure you understand he is ready to be held and adored. His underbite is as cute as his behaviors.  We believe he is a Pekingese & Shih-Tzu & Poodle mix.  He is a neutered boy, about 2 years young, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Please plan on regular professional grooming care and budget accordingly. Besides loving people, Lexington relishes the company of other friendly dogs.  Otherwise, his background is mostly unknown, as we rescued him from another shelter that ran out of space.

Help me become more of an angel.

Update: Gingerbread Robin was adopted on January 22nd! Gingerbread Robin has a heavenly face and this baby girl has incredible potential. But she is very picky about who she likes, full of adoration and kisses for those she loves and full of venom for others.  Because she is surprisingly feisty, perhaps due to lack of socialization, she requires a very experienced adult-only home.   The progress with people she is making with us needs to continue with her new owner. Gingerbread Robin is a Shih-Tzu mix, spayed, about 5 months of age, debuting for adoption today. Please plan on regular grooming care and find a groomer who understands (and is cautious about) her animosity with strangers who frighten or alarm her. She delights in bouncing around and playing with other dogs.  We think she may do best in a home with another dog (or dogs) to help her adjust and improve her socialization. Please be sure to ask for Gingerbread Robin by name at our front desk if you ...

Update: Singer was adopted on February 1st! Singer earned his name with his chirps and vocalizations to ensure you are paying plenty of attention to him. He is an adorable baby boy, cuter than a Teddy Bear, most likely a Shih-Tzu & Terrier mix.  He is neutered, about 5-6 months of age, and ready for adoption today. Singer is a vibrant puppy and he delights in your affection. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard and plan on regular professional grooming care. Singer needed us due to his previous owner's financial hardship. (Note: He has two small pink color spots on his otherwise black nose.  We point this out to assure you that he does not have nasal discharge in his portrait.)

Can we cuddle with you by the fireplace?

Ben & Jerry Update: Ben & Jerry were adopted on December 18th! Super cheery little troopers, these brothers carry sunshine and enthusiasm with them everywhere they go. Ben & Jerry are Shih Tzu mixes, neutered, just under two years of age, debuting for adoption today. As well as being brothers, they are soul-mates and they need to stay together forever. Ben & Jerry needed us because of their previous owner's financial hardship. The boys are good with cats and dogs and mature kids.  They are also reportedly housetrained and crate-trained. Please help them trim up a bit so that they are not so plump and please plan on quarterly professional grooming care for their soft, curly coats.

We are so thankful to be alive!

Doug and Pilot Update 2: Pilot was adopted on December 18th! Update: Doug was adopted on December 17th! It is enormously gratifying for us to watch these cheery, wiggly, zany puppies bursting with life, able to share their unconditional love -- the world's greatest gift -- with nurturing, committed people who will adopt them. Doug and Pilot are Maltese & Shih Tzu mix puppies, neutered boys, about 4 months of age.  They debut for adoption today. They can be adopted separately, but please consider taking them as a pair and keeping the brothers together forever. Last month we rescued Doug , who was ill with the dreaded parvo virus.  He needed emergency medical care to save his life, but his previous owner was unwilling or unable to help him. Five days later, Doug's previous owner arrived with yet another puppy, previously undisclosed.  Pilot was critically sick with parvo and we rushed him too into emergency medical care. [Note: It is not uncommon for s...

I survived the monsters.

Update: Rudy was adopted on December 4th! A new life for Rudy began the day we carried him through our doors.  He was confiscated by officers who found him in a cruel, abusive home.  His eardrum was ruptured, he was filthy and matted and underweight, he had numerous cysts, and he was suffering from untreated thyroid problems. We had Rudy's eardrum repaired, his coat groomed, his largest cysts removed, and he is now on thyroid medication for life, feeling and looking like a sweet little prince. While the physical repairs have taken just weeks, his emotional healing will take longer.  But he responds beautifully to gentle people and he will build self-esteem in a stable, nurturing home environment. Rudy is a Shih Tzu, neutered male, about 5 years of age, debuting for adoption today.  Besides budgeting for his thyroid medication, please budget for regular professional grooming care. Adopt him and help him continue to awaken to the love and joy that a warm,...

I can reach my full loving potential with your patience and good guidance.

Sparkey needs a new start with someone who believes in him and who believes in the power of kindness, not force. He is an attractive Shih Tzu, neutered male, approximately 2 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Sparkey is quite head-shy, a classic sign of past abuse, so an experienced, adult-only home is needed for him.  Like other survivors of abuse, he may get testy with strangers or others who he perceives as posing a threat to him or his loved ones. Besides being compatible with other dogs, he is reportedly housetrained.  Please plan on regular professional grooming care for him. Sparkey has tremendous potential.  A stable home and lifestyle routine, with a nurturing and soft-spoken new owner, will allow him to see people and his future in a much brighter light.
