Roxanne finally gave us a smile this morning, a sign of light and hope from a spirit shattered by cruelty. She kept her right ear aimed back towards the kind gentleman behind her, worried he intended her harm. Roxanne is so afraid of strangers that she hangs her head to the ground or flattens her body to the floor. We have no details on what she endured and know only that she ended up at another shelter that asked for our help. Roxanne's emotional recovery will be a long one, but we won't give up on her. She is a lovely Heinz 57 (60 pounds), likely with Aussie & Chow, 3 years of age and spayed, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Finding a hero for Roxanne is further challenged by her inability to be around other dogs (she is afraid of them) and children. We look forward to the day we know will come when Roxanne stands proudly, chin and tail up, confident and happy to be around people she trusts.
