Nevada SPCA Animal Rescue

Keegan ("small flame") is a 4-pound youngster with enormous loving potential.    He is a Longhair Chihuahua & Yorkshire Terrier mix, neutered boy, 1 year of age, good with dogs, and debuting for adoption at Nevada SPCA. Keegan was at another shelter that asked for our help. He reportedly came from a dreadful home where he was crated in solitary for up to 15 hours daily. Understandably, he fears crates and cries when he sees them.    Worse, he is head-shy and can get nippy when he thinks people are going to hit him. A gentle home with kind guidance and a very steady lifestyle routine will do wonders for him. We also believe Keegan may adjust best with a big sister or brother dog for comfort and companionship. Aztec , tiny at 7 pounds, so desperately wants to bond with people.    If you sit on the floor, he'll slowly crawl into your lap. But, as the victim of severe abuse, he may panic if you try to pet him. Aztec worries that strangers will try to hurt him again. We rescued him from another shelter and his progress has been gradual and slow. We believe he adjusts best when another dog is present, so adopting him to a home with a big sister or brother dog is likely ideal. Trooper , 12, a gentle soul, enjoys bonding with adults, kids, cats, and dogs.  He is a super cute Longhair Chihuahua, housetrained, neutered, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  Trooper is blind in his right eye (old injury).  He needed us when his previous owner began a nomadic lifestyle.

Versace longs to feel accepted. When he knows you like him, he insists on giving doggie kisses to thank you and then asks for a belly rub. Versace is a very cute, cream Longhair Chihuahua, 1 year young, neutered boy, good with other dogs, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.    We rescued him from another shelter that asked for our help because he does not like young children.    Please visit and ask for Versace by name.

Clarice is a gentle, well-behaved young lady asking for a forever home.  She is housetrained, crate-trained, and good with cats and dogs.  Clarice is a pretty Longhair Chihuahua, 3 years of age, spayed, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  She was surrendered for being "too needy". We want to find her a stable home where her devotion will be a treasure, not a burden.

Finn , a super cute junior puppy, needs someone to love.    He is a Corgi & Longhair Chihuahua mix, neutered boy, 10 months of age, good with other dogs, housetrained, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Finn was at another shelter that asked for our help due to an allegation by his previous owner that he is protective of his toys. We have not witnessed any protective behaviors from him in relation to food or toys or anything else. But to err on the safe side an experienced owner is needed who will ensure he is given kind guidance to learn good, well-adjusted behaviors.

Rico & Cici , a tiny pair of soul-mates, stayed strong for each other through a divorce and very hard times of financial woes.  Now homeless and having lost everything, at least they are safe and still have each other, forever.  Please help us find a hero for Rico & Cici .  They are very gentle, 9 -10 years of age, housetrained & crate-trained, compatible with cats and dogs.  Rico , a neutered boy, Longhair Chihuahua, is more outgoing.  Cici , a spayed girl, Yorkshire Terrier, has lost her teeth and she likes for Rico to lead the way for her.

Penelope is a thoughtful girl, tiny at 8 pounds, but full of enormous unconditional love.  She was at another shelter that needed our help because of a birth defect with her hind left leg.  Penelope cannot walk on the leg, but she uses it on occasion for sitting or leaning.  Since it does not cause her any pain, her veterinarian decided against amputation.  Penelope adores people and she is great with other dogs.  She is a Longhair Chihuahua, about 7 years of age, spayed, and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Size differences don't matter when it comes to souls. These two girls, Molly & Shelby , are bonded for life and gently whine if the other leaves their eyesight. Both girls are exceptionally sweet, yet initially shy, spayed, and about 7-8 years of age.  Molly is a medium-size Shepherd and Retriever mix, while Shelby is a Longhair Chihuahua mix. Leon would love to be adopted into a gentle home. He is a petite Longhair Chihuahua mix with fox-like good looks, 1 year young, now neutered and debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Leon is reportedly housetrained and fine with older, mature kids.  He gets along very well with other dogs we have introduced him to here at the shelter. Leon needed us due to his previous owner's financial hardship.

Samurai Jack is full of character!  He's tiny, but strong-willed.  Samurai Jack is a Longhair Chihuahua, housetrained, crate-trained, great with dogs, neutered, about 7 years of age, debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  His previous owner said he likes to sing along to opera and never say the word "McDonalds" in front of him unless a drive-thru is nearby or you are likely to face a temper tantrum.  Samurai Jack needs an adult-home where his eccentricities will be tolerated and cherished. He needed us when his previous owner lost the family home to foreclosure.

Paco would love to share his gentle spirit with you.  He is wise, calm, and unassuming.  We cannot understand why he is one of our longest dog residents, but months have rolled by and he keeps getting overlooked.  Pet'ographique generously photographed him to help spotlight his humble personality and warm nature.  Paco is a Longhair Chihuahua, neutered boy, 6 years of age, great with dogs, and available for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Bingo is rich in character and making great improvement with his temper. At the time of rescue, when his previous owners moved overseas, he was grouchy and stand-offish. But small progress seems to come every day, and he is enjoying volunteers and staff showering him with attention. He posed beautifully here for Pet'ographique and his professional portrait. Update: Isabel was adopted on January 15th! An ecstatic baby girl, Isabel surprises and and inspires us with her tremendous enthusiasm. She is a gorgeous Longhair Chihuahua mix, spayed, about 9 months of age, debuting for adoption today. Besides enjoying other dogs, Isabel is reportedly housetrained (with a doggie door) and crate-trained, and compatible with kind, mature kids. Isabel is boisterous and playful and an active lifestyle is needed for her. She needed us due to her previous owner's financial hardship.

Update: Baby New Year was adopted on January 8th! Baby New Year is still an infant at heart, but in actuality a 5 year old Longhair Chihuahua who is seeking a forever home.  He is neutered and ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. Baby New Year loves to snuggle and soak up your adoration.  He is a tiny boy, but has as much unconditional love to share as the other dogs. He needed us because his previous owner could not housetrain him.  But the foundation for housetraining is a steady lifestyle routine in a patient, loving home environment with positive rewards for good behavior. Baby New Year is compatible with other sweet dogs, and mature and gentle children.  He is fearful of adult men he does not know, vacuum cleaners, and sometimes his own shadow.

Imagine loving your family with all of your heart, unconditionally, but being rejected because they do not want you to get the new furniture dirty. This is reportedly what happened to Sugar Cookie -- her previous owner's new husband said she was no longer welcome. This is just wrong on so many levels that we cannot even get started commenting on it without taking away the space needed to shine a spotlight on this darling young girl who needs a new home.  (We trust you are thinking the same thing!) Sugar Cookie is a Longhair Chihuahua, spayed, about 2 years of age, housetrained, good with dogs, and debuting for adoption today. Though gentle, she has become strong-willed, probably due to abuse (physical or screaming), so an experienced, adult-only home is needed for her.  She is emerging from her emotional shell though, slowly and steadily, and this needs to continue in her new home. Perhaps we all could be a bit grumpy and feisty if we were homeless in our twilight years. But to dismiss Willy , a regal boy with a soft heart under a gruff exterior, would be a mistake.  You can develop a magical bond with him based on mutual respect and understanding. Our staff and volunteers love him dearly and refer to him as " Old Man Willy " with great affection.  He is a distinguished Longhair Chihuahua, neutered, approximately 12 years of age.  He is good with most dogs, but he is picky about which people he likes. Willy is one of our longest residents.  He must feel misunderstood watching all of the younger dogs going home every day while he continues waiting for his special one.   Please open your heart to Old Man Willy .  You have the power to give him a Christmas miracle, a forever home. Update: Suki was adopted on December 11th! Suki is an adorable, energetic pup debuting for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is an exceptionally attractive tri-color Longhair Chihuahua mix, neutered male, about 9 months of age. Suki needed us because one of his previous family members may have been allergic to him. He is good with other friendly dogs and he is reportedly mostly housetrained (with occasional accidents).  Since he is still play-biting -- a behavior that must be corrected -- any children in his new home must be older and mature. Please carefully puppy-proof your home and yard for his safety and protection.  Suki reportedly likes to chew on leaves, so take extra precautions to ensure he has no access to harmful plants or trees.

Lil & Kitty Update: Lil & Kitty were adopted on December 4th! Separating these young girls is out of the question.  Lil , especially, keeps her soul-mate Kitty in sight at all times. We rescued these two sweethearts from a government-funded shelter that ran out of space to keep them.  They had been with the same owner before being surrendered there, but we have no indication why they were kicked out of their previous family. Lil & Kitty are tiny and endearing, both affectionate with tender people.  Both girls are spayed and about one year of age.  Lil is a baby-facedToy mix and Kitty is a Longhair Chihuahua with gold eyes.  Lil will need regular grooming care and Kitty will need routine brushing. They debut for adoption today (and their adoption fees are reduced in order to encourage someone to adopt them as a lifelong pair).
