Duke

Image
Duke , 13, is a well-behaved, lovable boy with a puppy-like appearance and a serene disposition.  He is housetrained and good with other dogs.  Duke is a unique blend of breeds, including Spaniel (and his previous owner believed him to be a Mini Australian Shepherd), neutered, and ready for adoption at Nevada SPCA.  He needed us due to his previous owner's declining health.  Please share Duke's picture to help find him someone wonderful.

Duke

Duke has come so far in the past few months that he is unrecognizable from the terrified boy we rescued from another shelter.  He loves sharing his smiles, rolling his head in your lap, and beaming with pride.  Duke triumphantly debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.  He is a Rottweiler, 3 years young, neutered boy.

How will people know that I have a heart of gold?

Update: Duke was adopted on January 13th! Duke has a beautiful soul. He is very friendly, even-tempered, and good-natured, innocently magnificent. Duke is a small Chocolate Labrador Retriever (perhaps a mix because he is smaller than most Labs), a neutered boy of about 4 years of age. Full of kindness, we believe he could fit well into almost any home environment. We rescued Duke from a government-funded shelter that ran out of space for him. He debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

You saved our lives!

Update 2: Daisy was adopted on August 7th! Update: Duke was adopted on August 6th! Our ability to go the extra mile to save lives is due to financial support from the community. Daisy (pictured here) and her brother Duke (pictured on Nevada SPCA's main web site ) had been exposed to the deadly parvo virus at the time of their abandonment at a local veterinary clinic. We had extensive medical care provided for these puppies and both made full recoveries. Daisy & Duke are sister and brother, comical and playful and athletic. We believe they are Labrador Retriever mixes who will grow to medium or large size. They are spayed/neutered, between 6 and 7 months young, and debuting for adoption today. Daisy & Duke can be adopted separately. But please consider adopting them together for lifelong love and companionship. Please be willing and able to provide basic dog obedience training for them to help channel their energies into good behaviors. To help save the lives of commun...

Basset Hounds like me need regular ear and eye cleaning.

Update: Duke was adopted on October 16th! Duke is an exceptionally friendly youngster who needed us when his owners' home went into foreclosure. He is a handsome Basset Hound, neutered, and 2 years of age. Duke debuts for adoption today at Nevada SPCA. He is reportedly housetrained, good with cats & dogs, and fine with kind children of all ages. Duke's only reported fault is that he must be left alone when he is eating (though we have no reports of biting, nipping or growling). Food aggression is not uncommon, particularly with dogs who have experienced extreme hunger or starvation earlier in their lives. Consulting a professional dog trainer or behaviorist should be helpful in tending to this behavior. Duke needs weekly ear and eye cleaning, so Basset Hound knowledge and/or experience is strongly preferred for his adoption.

I am the friendliest of ghosts - a grey ghost.

Update: Duke was adopted on August 31st! Duke is a very handsome, playful, and jubilant boy. Duke still acts very much like a puppy, so careful puppy-proofing of your home for his safety & protection is a necessity. Duke is a Weimaraner, neutered male, approximately 6 years of age. He lost his home because of his puppy-like behaviors. (He reportedly chewed on a couch when his owners left him alone.) Duke is good with some dogs. He was bonded with a female Weimaraner and enjoyed being with her. But he was protective if other dogs approached her. His ideal new owner will have Weimaraner knowledge and/or experience, be very committed and open to basic dog training, and will lead an active lifestyle so that Duke gets all of the playtime he needs. Duke is ready for adoption today at Nevada SPCA.

Soul-mates Duke & Daisy need to stay together forever.

These friendly, gorgeous Weimaraners are not related by blood, but their exceptionally strong bond is beautiful and powerful. Daisy, on the right, screamed for her soul-mate when they were just briefly separated for Duke's veterinary check-up. She enjoys letting him lead the way to make sure everything is safe for her. We rescued Duke & Daisy from euthanasia at another shelter. As you know, like the vast majority of animals surrendered to shelters and rescues, the animals are completely innocent and did nothing to deserve having their lives put at risk. Duke & Daisy are 4-6 years of age. Please come meet and adopt them today. Weimaraner knowledge and/or experience is required, as well as a full commitment to basic dog obedience training. Please also remember they are partners for life, never to be separated.
