The path to my heart was through my stomach.

Pier, a petite "kit" (baby bunny), was our first rescue from a college campus lawn that had become overrun with rabbits.

The situation, which apparently began with the release of domesticated rabbits outdoors on campus, had become disastrous. Bunnies were being smashed under vehicles in adjacent parking lots, violently killed by dogs and birds of prey, and even clubbed to death by humans.

Nevada SPCA staff have so far captured and rescued 15 of the estimated 60 bunnies. We are hoping to complete this rescue mission for all 60 by mid-January.

Pier, a 5-month old Dutch, most likely had never been handled by people before. But to go from starvation to generous helpings of daily salad greens and Timothy hay won her over surprisingly quickly.

It turns out Pier has a social nature and she is gaining self-esteem every day. She is now spayed and debuting for adoption today.

In an experienced home, her progress will continue beautifully and she will reach her full potential as a loving new member of a family.
